Ontologies for describing Properties and Processes of City Infrastructure Assets: the Ground, Roads and Pipes

    No full text
This dataset consists of three city infrastructure asset ontologies, describing the ground, roads and buried pipes respectively. In each of these ontologies, it defines properties and processes of the corresponding asset, as well as how properties and processes affect each other. For example, the stiffness of the ground is influenced by the water content of it. Domain experts in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering and water engineering are involved in the ontology development. The ontologies are written in OWL 2 Web Ontology Language Manchester Syntax. The ontologies can be used in a broad range of scenarios to support management and maintenance of city infrastructures, and are currently being utilised in the development of a decision support system for integrated urban inter-asset management

The Orphan of Zhao (The National Theatre Company of China)/《赵氏孤儿》 (中国国家话剧院)

    Get PDF
This data consist of 11 productions of The Orphan of Zhao created by practitioners from four countries – China, Nigeria, Korea and Britain – and spans a range of theatrical genres: Chinese regional operas; spoken drama and Chinese opera in the Western style as well as dramas in Korean and in English (works by Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria and by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Britain). Viewers can find the introduction to each of the productions, including the information about the particular genre of each stage work. There are also still images and clips of videos; some production links include critical reviews. These diverse productions not only retell an ancient story of an orphan in China, but also enlighten us about the intriguing fluidity and continuity of human culture.

Dataset associated with "Frustration and thermalisation in an arti cial magnetic quasicrystal"

    No full text
We have created and studied artificial magnetic quasicrystals based on Penrose tiling patterns of interacting nanomagnets that lack the translational symmetry of spatially periodic artificial spin ices. Vertex-level degeneracy and frustration induced by the network topology of the Penrose pattern leads to a low energy configuration that we propose as a ground state. Topologically induced emergent frustration means that this ground state cannot be constructed from vertices in their ground states. It has two parts, a quasi-one-dimensional rigid "skeleton" that spans the entire pattern and is capable of long-range order, and "flippable" clusters of macrospins within it. These lead to macroscopic degeneracy for the array as a whole. Magnetic force microscopy imaging of Penrose tiling arrays revealed superdomains that are larger for more strongly coupled arrays. The superdomain size is larger after AC-demagnetisation and especially after annealing the array above its blocking temperature

Dataset associated with 'Dielectric properties of liquid crystalline dimer mixtures exhibiting the nematic and twist-bend nematic phases'

    No full text
A detailed investigation of the thermal and dielectric properties of a series of binary mixtures exhibiting the nematic (N) and twist-bend nematic (NTB) liquid crystal phases is presented. The mixtures consist of an achiral, dimeric liquid crystal CB7CB, which forms the nematic and twist-bend nematic phases, and a calamitic liquid crystal 5CB, which shows the nematic phase. As the concentration of the calamitic liquid crystal is increased, the transition temperatures decrease linearly, and the width of the nematic phase increases. The enthalpies of phase transitions obtained from DSC measurements show that on increasing the concentration of 5CB in the binary mixtures, the enthalpy associated with the N to NTB phase transitions reduces considerably compared to a clear first order N-NTB transition in pure CB7CB. The real and imaginary parts of the dielectric permittivity are measured as a function of frequency from 100 Hz to 2 MHz in the nematic and twist-bend nematic phases in planar and homeotropic devices. A significant decrease in the average dielectric permittivity as a function of temperature for mixtures forming the NTB phase is observed. Measurements of the imaginary part of the dielectric permittivity show a relaxation peak in the measured frequency window for all of the mixtures exhibiting the NTB phase. The activation energy associated with this relaxation process is calculated and is shown to remain constant irrespective of the composition of the mixtures
