Behavioural data for 'Ospreys do not teach offspring how to kill prey at the nest'

    No full text
This dataset details 365 feeding events at the nests of 12 pairs of ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) collected 11 June - 5 September 2016. The data was collected from publicly accessible webcams via the internet. The spreadsheet OspreyFeedingByEvent.csv gives the data broken down by feeding event whereas the spreadsheet OspreyFeedingByDay.csv gives the data broken down by day and nest. The data details whether the prey was alive on arrival at the nest, how old the youngest chick was, and (in the by event data only) whether the other (non-delivering) parent was at the nest. The spreadsheet Locations.csv gives the geographic locations and websites at which cameras were situated. The text file OspreyRCode.r gives the code used to analyse the data in the R statistical environment

Dataset associated with 'A predictive model for discrete cell gravure roll coating'.

    No full text
A predictive heterogeneous multiscale model for discrete cell gravure roll coating is presented with experimental results for the purpose of model validation. The experimental results are in line with those found elsewhere and qualitatively agree with the numeric model for pickout ratio of a range of operating web-to-roll speed ratios. The cell volume, general cell shape and the gravure patterning are accounted for within the model. The inclusion of a web-to-roll contact term accounts for the special gravure case when the web-roll separation is equal to zero. Bead profile results are presented at different operating conditions describing the influence of the contact on both the coating bead structure and fluid transfer properties

Dataset associated with 'Prescribed burning, atmospheric pollution and grazing effects on peatland vegetation composition'.

Subsets of two vegetation surveys held by UK government body Natural England with additional environmental data including plot physical attributes, burning status and deposition of atmospheric pollutants

Embedding design structures in engineering information.

    Get PDF
StrEmbed-4 demonstrates how a design structure, for example “as designed”, typically using a computer aided design (CAD) system can be embedded on to a corresponding hypercube lattice. This embedding relationship can be shown visually with this software. Any combinations or permutations of an alternative design structure is also embedded in this hypercube lattice. Modified design structure can be exported to a data format that can be read by a CAD system. A lattice is a partially ordered set (poset) which is equivalent to a corresponding universal algebra. This algebra has a number of useful mathematical properties that allow generation of alternative design structures for other stages of product life cycle, inter alia, “as manufactured” and “as maintained”

    Complex and Long Activities Dataset

    No full text
An activity dataset is presented here which exhibits real-life and diverse scenarios of complex, temporally-extended human activities and actions. The dataset consists of a set of videos of actors performing everyday activities in a natural and unscripted manner. The dataset was recorded using a static Kinect 2 sensor which is commonly used on many robotic platforms. The dataset comprises of RGB-D images, point cloud data, automatically generated skeleton tracks in addition to crowdsourced annotations. We believe that this dataset is particularly suitable as a testbed for activity recognition research but it can also be applicable for other common tasks in robotics/computer vision research such as object detection and human skeleton tracking

The Orphan of Zhao (Beijing People's Art Theatre)/ 《赵氏孤儿》 (北京人民艺术剧院)

    Get PDF
This data consist of 11 productions of The Orphan of Zhao created by practitioners from four countries – China, Nigeria, Korea and Britain – and spans a range of theatrical genres: Chinese regional operas; spoken drama and Chinese opera in the Western style as well as dramas in Korean and in English (works by Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria and by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Britain). Viewers can find the introduction to each of the productions, including the information about the particular genre of each stage work. There are also still images and clips of videos; some production links include critical reviews. These diverse productions not only retell an ancient story of an orphan in China, but also enlighten us about the intriguing fluidity and continuity of human culture.

Data associated with ‘Low-Loss Asymptotically Single-Mode THz Bragg Fiber Fabricated by Digital Light Processing Rapid Prototyping’

    No full text
These data relate to the study of low-loss asymptotically single-Mode THz Bragg fiber fabricated by digital light processing rapid prototyping. They include the characterization of 3D printing material, namely HTM140. The data associated with the analytical analysis on the dispersion curves, propagation loss and the group velocity dispersion are also included. The numerical simulation results on the impact of support bridges on the propagation loss are archived. Finally, they also archive the measurement results of the transmission coefficients of the fabricated Bragg fibres and consequently the measured propagation loss

    Asymmetric Prehension Data

    No full text
This dataset is supplied to accompany the paper entitled "Predicting the duration of reach-to-grasp movements to objects with asymmetric contact surfaces". It contains data from a series of experiments. In Experiment 1a, participants reached-to-lift wooden blocks off a table top, with the contact locations for the thumb and index finger varying in surface size. In Experiment 1b participants reached-to-grasp the wooden blocks. Experiment 2 tested whether our findings generalised to reach-to-grasp behaviour with conical frusta grasped in a different plane (thumb on top, finger on bottom) mounted off the table top. The thumb surface was the visible surface in experiments 1 and 2 so Experiment 3 explored grasping when the index finger’s surface was visible (participants grasped the frustae with the index finger at the top). Our findings provide the first empirical report of the impact of asymmetric grasp surfaces on prehension and may have implications for scientists who wish to model reach-to-grasp behaviours
