Dynamic response of dancing floor: An example of designing RC floor of a wedding hall
Building new wedding halls has been flourishing as one of the catching investments in Sudan in recent years. These halls typically require large open spaces with no permeant partitions or furniture that reduces the superimposed dead load considerably. This paper presents an example of designing a reinforced concrete wedding hall floor, using two flooring systems, namely, flat slab and two way solid slab considering dancing induced dynamic load. Firstly an initial sizing based on only dead and live load was carried. The dynamic response was assessed following three methods: 1) the fundamental frequency limit; 2) equivalent static load; and 3) the acceleration limit. The results of the dynamic assessment has shown that a little to no-design alteration has to be made in the concrete flooring systems to satisfy safety. However, problems of vibration perception and comfort may require further structural adjustment to meet the acceptable level of vibration in the project specification based on the anticipating floor usage
Analyse du coup de bélier dans une conduite forcée dans le cas d’une fermeture de vanne. Partie 3 : Pertes de charges concentrées en amont
In this third contribution, still using the same analytical approach based on Bergeron's graphical construction as in the first two parts, we analyze the water hammer phenomenon induced by the slow closing of a valve by considering pressure losses concentrated upstream of the penstock, just at the outlet of the reservoir. The analytical equations governing the propagation of the elastic waves in charge are thus developed. The same practical example studied during our first two contributions is analyzed here and the results, flow rates and pressures at the level of the valve and the tank at different times, are compared with those obtained, by considering respectively the negligible pressure drops then concentrated downstream of the pipe, just at the inlet of the shut-off valve.
The Energy Performance of Shading Element and Double Skin Facade System Integration into Office Buildings in Turkey
Energy efficiency in building design tends to be important in reducing the share of construction sector in energy consumption and environmental problems caused by it. In this study, energy performance of an existing office structure was evaluated by integrating shading elements and double skin facade systems within the scope of energy efficiency in buildings. Initially, current energy performance of the building was examined by design builder program and then, the shading element alternatives and the double skin facade system alternatives were separately integrated into the structure and simulated by solar tool and design builder program. Alternatives with the highest energy performances were determined in both building components. Later in the study, the shading element and the double skin facade system alternatives, which gave the most successful results, were integrated into the building model simultaneously and the energy performance thus evaluated was compared with the energy performance of the existing building. According to results, the Shaded Double Skin Facade scenario indicated a drop in heating load of around 2% and a decrease in cooling load of about 45% compared to the present building model
بلاغة الفقراء الاستجابة البليغة لخطاب تحقير طعام الغلابة
This article tests the hypothesis that popular groups, especially the poor people challenges the discursive contempt of their food and produces rhetorical strategies to defend their identity and way of life. The article answers two questions: How do the poor Egyptians deal with the derogation of their food? And, what are the rhetorical methods they use that defy this rhetoric of humiliation? I analyze a corpus of proverbs, street cries, dailylife expression to answer these two questions. I examine the relationship between food and social and political identity in Egyptian popular discourse and the role of popular rhetoric in defending the interests of the marginalized. I argue that the poor people have devised rhetorical responses to stand against this sort of discrimination based on food and create a perception of equality between the food of the poor and the rich, aiming to undermine the basis on which food is used as an instrument of social discrimination

This study provides a semiotic analysis of Al-Janad University Logo. It deals with the symbol as an advertising medium and a communication channel used to define the university, and promote its services. The logo reveals a special philosophy and multiple cultural dimensions. The study explores the meaning, interprets and identifies the deep connotations. The study traced the connotations through its overall structure, and tried to discover its secondary semantics within its internal components, its colors, and linguistic components. The study used the semiotic approach and other methodological arguments. It concluded that the logo contains visual and linguistic components revealing very fertile connotations. They give the logo an effective promotional energy that present fertile cultural concepts
الإيقاع: من المستوى الانفعالي إلى بنية القصيدة عند الشعراء النقاد الجزائريين
Through the present study, we will try to highlight the mechanisms and dimensions of visual rhythmic formation and its relationship to the emotional aspect of the creative being, by analyzing samples of the Algerian critic poets’ poetry. Poetic creation is considered as a distinctive emotional experience in which linguistic meaning mixes with non-linguistic one, carrying unique psychological and subjective dimensions, as it works in order to provoke the reader and go beyond the horizon of his expectation. Critic poets are also different from others by cleverness, perspicacity and especially by knowing the rules of poetry and its creation bases. Thus, they consider that the poetic text is characterized by movement, continuity and poeticity because of the construction of the poem basically on a geometrical and architectural level, and that the rhythmic visual formation embraces a charge of intense energies that the poet frees to achieve singularity and excellence within the creative
Efficient prediction of axial load-bearing capacity of concrete columns reinforced with FRP bars using GBRT model
The behavior of concrete columns reinforced with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars is different from conventional reinforced concrete columns due to the mechanical properties of FRP bars. This study develops a novel machine learning (ML) model, namely gradient boosting regression tree (GBRT), for efficiently predicting the axial load-bearing capacity (ALC) of concrete columns reinforced with FRP bars. A data base containing 283 experimental results is collected to develop the ML model. Seven code-based and empirical-based equations are also included in comparison with the developed ML models. Moreover, we also propose a multiple linear regression (MLR)-based formula for calculating the ALC of the FRP-concrete column. The performance results of GBRT model are compared with those of published formulas and the proposed MLR-based formula. Statistical properties including , , and are calculated to evaluate the accuracy of those predictive models. The comparisons demonstrate that GBRT outperforms other models with very high values and small . Moreover, the influence of input parameters on the predicted ALC isevaluated. Finally, an efficient graphical user interface tool is developed to simplify the practical design process of FRP-concrete columns

: This study aims to understand the worlds of disabled actors and the conditions for the success of experiments that favor their selection and employment of their talents through the theatrical performance "perfume" and the accompanying opinions after its presentation. Where the study adopts the critical analytical approach, which enables to reveal the totality of the issues raised and the problems arising from the presentation. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: the disabled actor faces many difficulties in hiring him and attaching him to artistic projects due to the difficulty of memorizing the role or absorbing it or the possibility of presenting it in the way the director needs, in addition to the fact that the theater director often uses the healthy actor to take advantage of time and effort. As for the use of actors with special needs, it represents an adventure with unresolved results and requires a far-sighted exit that does not depend on the ready or the simplicity. In addition, the disabled actor needs psychological support from the theater makers, and every success he achieves increases his psychological motivation to achieve the best
