Talk about the plight of the intellectual leads us to pay attention to what Moroccan thinker Mohammed Noureddine Affaya presented in his book entitled "Identity and Difference in Women, Writing and Margin" Because he characterizes the pathological correlation between the intellectual and authority, and presents throughout it a double vision that criticism is both a marginality of the intellectual and a way out of his plight. Hence, this research paper highlights this critical paradox and addresses the following problem: how does Affaya view the plight of the intellectual? Could criticism be a link between the questions of culture and freedom

If the research in the ancient Arab poetry and diving in its depths is a hard mission surrounded by the conceptual and methodological obstacles imposed by its extended course in time and space and vision, restating confusing question in another language other than the Arabic in order to reshape the general awareness of the reader whose epistemological horizons had been determined by the Orientalist system is a pure adventure which cannot be taken only by few researchers who can bridge the deep urban gap between the Islamic Arabic self and the Western other. This adventure had been taken by Jamel Eddine Ben Chikh through his various writings mainly his book “Ashiiria al Arabia” (Arab poetry). This paper aims at contributing to reaching the specificity of this critical work regarding its topic, method, and aim through a critical reading that reaches the depth of the used concepts and touches its dimensions to find the ties between the specificity of the discourse and comprehensiveness of the questions which are extrapolated by the discourse of Ben Chikh. The main question is: to what extent did the researcher manage to escape the Western reference authority in his research about the Arab poetry

The effect of the solar wall heating on the flow structure within the cross-ventilation of isolated building

    Get PDF
In this paper a comprehensive study is conducted on the heat transfer between building and the atmosphere within a cross ventilation situation, this situation is characterized by a transverse flow between the two parallel windows of an isolated building.  The study is divided into two parts, in the first part, the effect of the walls, solar heating during the day (windward between sunrise and noon, the roof at the moon and leeward between noon and sunset) on the air temperature distribution and air velocity inside and outside an isolated building is studied when a numerical simulation is conducted in an atmospheric micro scale. For the second part, the study is focused on the effect of temperature change of the building floor, by an external heating source such as a recessed serpentine, on cooling or heating the air but in this case only inside the building by numerical simulation. The numerical results are validated using experimental measurements (velocity profiles and turbulent kinetic energy) of Y. Tominaga realized at Niigata Institute of Technology in Japan, these measurements provide a very useful database for validation of numerical models of computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Compared to those wind tunnel experimental measurements, the numerical results of the cross-ventilation show a good agreement. The detailed results analysis shows that the differential heating of all building surfaces can greatly influence the capacity of the flow to transport and exchange heat

Dynamic response of a rigid foundation rested in a densified soil

    Get PDF
A three-dimensional finite element numerical model is proposed to study the dynamic behavior of foundations placed on densified soils. The densification of soil was done by dynamic compacting. The characteristics of densified soil are organized in four soil classes according to Eurocode 8(NF EN 1998). The mechanical parameters of the densified soil are used to determine the dynamic response of the foundations before and after the densification process. The formulation is based on the sub-structure method, the characteristic of the soil and the foundations are considered viscoelastic. Dynamic excitations are applied to the center of the foundation; the displacement response is obtained by applying a vertical and a horizontal load to the centers of the foundations. The obtained results are presented in terms of vertical and horizontal displacement amplitude for all categories of densified soil

Description occupies an important place in the art of fiction, especially in presenting the landscapes. The novel "Tilka Al-Mahabba" by Al-Habib Al-Sayeh is based on the embodiment of the desert space in its strange and miraculous dimension, which prompted us to question the aesthetics of describing the landscapes in it. The concept of landscape expresses an interactive relationship between the land or the country and the human being, and refers to the experience of space when an integrated unit is formed by the perceptive self.We have concluded that the novelist uses the “gradual description” to draw the marvelous landscapes. In gradual description the descriptive piece is intertwined into descriptive signs that the novelist spreads throughout the text, whether the description is by word or by deed. While the description from the vision is absent

This research talks about Al-Zamakhshari, one of the scholars of Arabic rhetoric, and he is the author of the book (alkashaf), which included important additions to the Arabic rhetoric. Perhaps the most prominent of these additions is the topic of (the figure of thought) and its six famous relationships. The scholars of rhetoric followed it up in these six relationships and did not add to them. However, Al-Zamakhshari mentioned other relationships in various places in his interpretation. so this research came to clarify some of these additional relationships referred to by Al-Zamakhshari, using the descriptive analytical method and some simple representations

The research deals with the vision of the contemporary critic Abdel-Fattah Kilito to the question of literary genres through his regenerative reading of the ancient Arab literary heritage. We have touched upon the dilemmas of reading the heritage text for the contemporary reader, especially the prose text that belonged to the marginal code given the centrality that the poetic text had in the ancient Arab heritage code. Based on this fact, we raised the question of the relationship of literary prose to poetic centrality in the Arab heritage. Among the issues discussed in this research, the issue of reading and the challenges posed by the time distance that separates the contemporary critic from the heritage text, It is one of the critical issues discussed by Kilito, so he proposed new conceptions of the concept of literary genres, exploiting many mechanisms, concepts and terminology in literary theory and modern and contemporary critical theories

Damage estimation of low to medium rise reinforced concrete buildings considering vertical irregularity

    Get PDF
In current study, Damage estimation is carried out using new methodology using parameters such as absorbed energy and degrading stiffness by pushover analysis. A new stiffness-based damage index is developed for each increasing step of pushover analysis, which takes into account the cumulative effects of increasing each lateral load and displacement. Non-cumulative absorbed energy-based damage index is calculated using the pushover curve's first maximal hysteretic cycle. These suggested methods can be utilised to quickly calculate the global damage index for low to medium rise vertical irregular buildings. The proposed two methods are evaluated using three regular and vertical irregular buildings considering various parameters such as varying heights, setback orientations, plastic hinges and monotonic loads. Furthermore, existing deformation and strength-based damage indices are used to calibrate the proposed damage indices. Both proposed damage indices may calculate damage index at any point on the pushover curve, however the damage indices are computed at different performance levels. The research based on damage index showed that two approaches for evaluating damage to irregular buildings are easy to use and accurate, Also, using the results of pushover analysis, structural designers may estimate the global damage index as a performance criterion in  short period of time

In this article, we will analyze the poetic collection (Diwan) “What confused me… what I missed” written by the Saudi poetess Mastūrah al-ʻUrābī , by addressing one of the problems that were the manifestations of modernization in the contemporary Arabic poem, namely the crossing from the weight of the subject towards the transparency of the meaning. We have considered this phenomenon to be one of the manifestations of the poetic experimentation of the poetess, after the traditional theme and subject to which the readers of poetry have become accustomed to is something that the new poem rejects.                                                  The poems of the Diwan seemed to draw for themselves various paths, through which the poetess bet on continuous renewal and semantic deception, which allows the reader to produce the meaning he wants or enjoy the process of deferring it. This crossing is established when the poems move from the usual and current to what falls within the circle of the possible. As we read the Diwan, we seem to be in the process of dismantling the solid subject, as the poetess puts us in front of other situations of poetic fluidity, which provides another look at the relationship of poetry with its themes, and we witness what resembles an act of liberation from the authority of the traditional subject, and this liberation was manifested in a group of phenomena that we will addres
