Seat of Choice: The Advantages of Flexible Seating
The focus of this Capstone Project is the advantages of Flexible Seating. This is important because students thrive off of choice in the classroom and Flexible Seating offers many ways for a student’s success. It is argued that teachers should implement Flexible Seating because of the increase in collaboration, student engagement, and overall success. The primary stakeholder perspective chosen was a veteran teacher who has implemented Flexible Seating and their fifth grade class, this is because of their experiences with this classroom design. Three themes emerged from an analysis of the data and were explored as ways to address the issue presented. Based on an analysis of the interviews and the relevant research literature, the researcher used what they learned to formulate an action that responded in a way that inspires, informs, or involves a particular audience
The Effects of Physical Activity on Mental Health
Central Coast High School is a continuation high school that creates an adaptable and recovery-based education environment for credit deficient Junior and Senior year students. They do this by providing a flexible setting for students with unique academic and social-emotional needs. The macro-level problem related to this project is the high levels of mental health disorders among youth. The micro-level problem in the project implemented is lack of physical activity. The purpose of this project is to encourage an outing at CSUMB where students will get the opportunity to visit three main buildings: the Student Services Center, Health and Wellness Center, and the Library. A physical Activity will be incorporated at the end of the tour, students will head on out to the disc golf field to play a game of frisbee. The most important finding was that even though students reported their stress levels to be the same for the pre and post-survey, they did report an increase in motivation in wanting to further their education. My recommendation is to start clubs for different sports or physical activities that interest students. Or even organize fun events like fun runs, and challenges within the school to promote physical activity in a fun and engaging way. As well as taking them out more to college field trips in order for them to get the feel of how it would be if they decided to pursue a higher education
Analyzing Family Strength & Needs Assessment
Children from low-income Monterey County families aren’t receiving enough support, the Early Learning programs goal is to have kids ready for kindergarten all while including their families and supporting them both. The issue is getting parents involved, a way to get them involved is through the Family Needs and Strengths Assessment and through workshops aimed to serve families. The capstone addresses these two by shifting the way the assessment is done and bettering workshops for higher attendance. By doing so the agency found that having very little support while parents complete the assessment allows for raw results (94.9% to 89.3%). Creating flyers that are appealing for kids and parents in order for a better turn out. The next step for the ELP is to continue on taking these measures as the years go by and they will see a great shift in their assessments and in their workshops
Effects of Integrating Multicultural Literature on Elementary School Students
The purpose of this capstone project is to examine the effects of integrating multicultural literature on elementary school students and how it helps students learn about culturally sustaining and relevant literature. Is there a call for action, social justice, or a change in the world or the reader’s perspective? It is important for students to learn the importance of these aspects. It gives them a window to other cultures. Through literature review and case study, the result findings revealed are crucial to elementary school students’ understanding of diversity in the classroom and help build an understanding of respect for other cultures outside of the classroom. It serves as a powerful tool in helping students gain insight on their own cultures and of others by finding the methods and strategies that will work within the classroom that will fit the needs of all students. It is important for students to feel comfortable and get them to understand and learn about the specific reading and learning of different diversities
Preschool Children Learn About Regulating Emotions

Benefits of Existing Educational Programs for Migrant Elementary School Students
Due to the constant mobility of migrant families, migrant students face disadvantages in their academic performance. This senior capstone research project is to examine the benefits of existing education programs for immigrant elementary school students on migrant students available for a largely Hispanic community on the Central Coast of California. Through the use of literature review, interviews with migrant teachers, migrant coordinators, and migrant directors, the results show that even though migrant students obtain physical and emotional support for the Migrant Education Program, their academic achievement and personal identity are constantly being challenged. In order to help mitigate these effects, migrant families need to ask how to sign up their students for these programs to help them learn English, math, reading, and even technology. Other services for migrant students include tutoring, afterschool programs, and outside programs that are not directly coming from the school, but perhaps coming directly from the district
How Swim Lessons Improve Overall Health in Children Ages 7 to 13
My capstone project focuses on increasing school-aged children’s awareness about the need for physical activity to improve overall health. There are reports that children’s physical activity has decreased in recent years. Because they spend so much time behind a screen, they do not get adequate exercise and experience feelings of depression and lack of motivation to change their habits. Potential reasons for this could include the COVID-19 pandemic forcing children inside, increased popularity in video games, and an increase in social anxiety due to the pandemic. By focusing my project on swimming-related skills, I hope to increase children’s physical activity levels, while also improving their physical and mental well-being. A study by Wegner et al. (2020) found that physical exercise can reduce diagnosed and undiagnosed depression in children. This study proves that exercise promotes children’s overall health. Physical exercise is good for children between the ages of 7 and 13. My project improved my students’ activity levels and taught them the positive impacts swimming safely on physical and mental health. I incorporated my project into my pre-arranged swim lessons with my students ages 7 to 13 years old by presenting them with information throughout the swim lesson

Understanding and Preventing Burnout Among Behavioral Health Workers
This capstone project aims to address burnout among behavioral health workers through research and survey development. The research component involves reviewing existing studies and conducting interviews with staff members of Valley Health Associates to identify key factors contributing to high burnout rates and their consequences. Contributing factors researched include organizational culture, increasing workloads, and demand for behavioral health workers, and organizational climate. The consequences of burnout include physical and emotional health impacts, overwhelming caseloads, and low retention rates. The research findings inform the development of an employee satisfaction and engagement survey that includes questions related to burnout, workload, company culture, job satisfaction, organizational support, and opportunities for growth and development. The survey serves as a tool for Valley Health Associates to help identify and prevent burnout among staff. By addressing burnout, this project aims to improve the well-being of behavioral health workers at the agency and ultimately enhance the quality of care provided to patients
