Instructional Teaching Strategies for Special Education Students with Moderate to Severe Disability
Get PDFThere is a plethora of beneficial teaching strategies for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Like each disability, each student is very unique with regards to their educational needs within the classroom. The purpose of this senior capstone is to explore the most effective teaching strategies that could be implemented for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Through the use of literature review, interviews with a professor of special education, three high school teachers, and a school psychologist, the result findings revealed that inclusion is one of the best teaching strategies that could be used to benefit students with moderate to severe disabilities coupled with the use of veteran mentors as resources

No full textPeer relationships play a critical role in the experiences we as human beings face daily, that is especially the case for college students who are in a stage of development where relationships play an even greater role. Relationships have an impact on the support individuals receive, leading to an impact on the quality of life. This paper emphasizes the need for college students to understand the necessity of positive peer relationships during their time pursuing higher education using Erik Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development to support this claim. Additionally, to address this need, the project was intended to inform college students about peer relationships, why they are necessary, and how to maintain positive relationships
Psychoeducation Workshop for Youth on Probation
No full textYouth Alliance is a non-profit agency located in Hollister California. The GANAS program serves youth 12-18 years of age and provides intensive case management services to referred local youth. A researcher report from the State of New York found that high recidivism rates could be attributed to an inconsistent program approach, lack of program continuity when juveniles transition from residential confinement to aftercare, and lack of support systems as youth move into young adulthood. Teaching a group psychoeducation where they are being guided through their probation to make the right decisions and be provided with the best resources will help the youth succeed
ACEs and Trauma Informed Care
No full textTrauma-informed care is an organizational response that challenges providers to adopt principled-based approaches that seek to reduce the adverse effects of trauma and support healing. Trauma and toxic stress is a growing public health concern and community-based trauma-informed care provides an approach through expanding and sustaining screening and responding to ACEs (adverse childhood experiences) by increasing workforce, trauma-informed training, and services for primary care clinics. By identifying gaps in community care and providing the stress buster resources and services, communities, governmental agencies, and policy administrators can build collaborative partnerships. This allows them to build and improve capacities to fill potential gaps around childhood trauma to deepen awareness of the types of trauma and triggers related to toxic stress and childhood trauma. Defining those strategies to prevent secondary trauma will contribute to reducing risks of morbidity and mortality related to toxic stressors
Increasing High School Students’ Awareness of the Risks of Gang Violence
Get PDFThe present study experimentally informed the effects of high school students of not being aware of the impact of gangs and gang violence. The study consisted of 23 participants, ages from 13 years of age to 15 years of age. All in which are highs school freshman in a freshman seminar course located in a small community know for gang violence. Participants were lead with a two day curriculum with an introduction to the risks of gang violence and how to coping with gang involvement. Furthermore, adolescents with higher exposure to gang violence were able to share relatable experiences in terms of how to cope with gang affiliation in the community they live in. Participants were also able to set various ways of higher life aspirations for themselves
Benefits of Integrating Music for Academic Success of Elementary School Students
No full textThis senior capstone explores the benefits of integrating music into the elementary school curriculum. The research draws on the experiences of teachers in Monterey County, who provide personal input and beliefs on this topic. Through the use of literature review, one classroom observation, interviews with four teachers and a student survey with one class, the findings indicate that integrating music into the classroom is essential and has a positive impact on the overall students’ academic success. Therefore, schools should recognize that music serves as a key role in the education of young minds that could unlock children’s potential to achieve academic excellence

Effects of School Programs Fighting Systemic Racism in K-12 Schools
No full textEducation has been a pivotal point for members of this society to move up the economic ladder. Education has the ability to allow individuals to be exposed to different experiences. There has always been a divide when it comes to education, especially for students of color. Today, young learners that aren’t as well off are having to go to schools that are filled with police and metal detectors and have to deal with systemic racism on a daily basis. School systems have many things that need to change in order for students to have a better chance of being successful. Education is something that everyone needs and shouldn’t be different just because of a student\u27s neighborhood or financial status. As a future educator, this project will help me to become aware of all of the programs that are in place that could potentially damage a child\u27s behavior and mindset. Without proper programs that help combat systemic racism, the effects on students can be detrimental
