Peace-Oriented Dakwah and Peacebuilding: A Critical Discourse Analysis in Conflict-Affected Middle East Societies
Prolonged conflicts in the Middle East have created an urgent need for culturally-grounded peacebuilding strategies, within which Islamic preaching (dakwah) emerges as a potential medium for fostering reconciliation—though its discursive mechanisms remain understudied. This study investigates how dakwah constructs peace-oriented discourse in conflict-affected societies, including Palestine, Syria, and Iraq, by examining its linguistic, narrative, and ideological dimensions. Employing a qualitative critical case study design and Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), we analyzed over sixty sermons, digital content, and interviews with preachers and peace actors from 2021 to 2024. The findings reveal that dakwah actively constructs counter-narratives of justice, compassion, and reconciliation; employs rhetorical strategies such as inclusive pronouns, healing metaphors, and jihad reinterpretation to reframe conflict and promote social cohesion; and positions religious actors as cultural mediators who utilize both sermons and digital platforms to disseminate peace messages. The study concludes that dakwah serves as a transformative form of communication capable of challenging hegemonic conflict narratives. It further proposes a novel CDA-Based Peace Dakwah Framework, offering scholars and practitioners an interdisciplinary tool for peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and Islamic communication studies. This replicable model highlights the potential of religious discourse as soft power in global peacebuilding efforts
Transforming Islamic Higher Education: Integrating Islamic Values and Digital Technology at UIN Siber Cirebon
The relationship between Islam and science remains a critical issue, particularly within the institutional transformation of Islamic higher education (PTKI) in Indonesia, where universities face the challenge of digitalization while maintaining their religious-epistemological identity. This study examined the strategies of UIN Siber Syekh Nurjati Cirebon to integrate Islamic and scientific knowledge. Using a qualitative methodology, data were collected through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and field observations with faculty, administrators, and students. The findings revealed four strategies: (1) a dialogical and dialectical approach that maintained epistemological integrity between Islam and science; (2) integration of ethics-based knowledge grounded in maqasid al-shariah; (3) an interdisciplinary curriculum combining Islamic and scientific disciplines; and (4) innovations contextualized in locality within cultural and religious traditions. The research proposed the “Muhsin Sejati” framework, an innovative model that distinguishes itself from earlier integration theories by uniquely grounding technological advancements in ethical and spiritual values. This model supported the development of graduates who were technically proficient, ethically responsible, and spiritually conscious. The research contributed to the theory of integrated Islamic education by operationalizing abstract concepts into institutional practices and offers global insights into value-driven educational models. Further studies are recommended to investigate the scalability and long-term effectiveness of the Muhsin Sejati model in various educational contexts

Informants in the research were Muhammadiyah Regional Leaders, Aisyiyah Regional Leaders, Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Regional Leaders, active members of Muhammadiyah, and Muhammadiyah mothers who were involved in social activities with gender ideology. The data were analyzed by inductive data analysis. This study found out that the social dynamics and community-based education movement for gender justice carried out by Muhammadiyah’s females are as follows: (1) religious activities, disseminating the amr ma’ruf nahi munkar movement and Islamic egalitarianism; (2) education and advocacy on women’s issues (local dynamics); (3) agency, which was divided into mainstream groups (conservative-literal, rational-praxis), and religion’s critical-reinterpretation group for gender justice
Enhancing Critical Thinking Skills in Graduates: An Experiential Learning Approach
Critical thinking is a vital 21st-century graduate attribute that significantly enhances employability and adaptability. This study investigated the effectiveness of experiential learning in fostering students’ critical thinking skills within the context of Indonesian higher education. Using a quantitative pretest-posttest design, data were collected from 117 university students enrolled in a science course at Universitas Riau. A structured questionnaire assessing five levels of critical thinking was used to measure students’ skills before and after the intervention. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ critical thinking after the intervention (p < .001), with an average increase of 6.78 points and a 13.9% gain. Cohen’s d value of 0.84 indicated a large effect size. Post-intervention results showed a substantial shift in the distribution of critical thinking levels, with more students reaching the ‘superior’ and ‘exceptional’ categories. These results underscored the value of active, reflective, and real-world learning experiences in enhancing students’ cognitive skills. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence on pedagogical innovations in science education and offers practical implications for curriculum reform in developing countries
Rejection of Rohingya in Aceh: The Role of Ulama and Tolerance in Acehnese Society
The displacement of Rohingya refugees remains a pressing humanitarian issue, particularly in Aceh, Indonesia, where initial expressions of solidarity have shifted towards growing resistance. This study examines the factors driving this shift and the role of ulama in mediating social tensions amid economic anxieties and digital misinformation. Using a qualitative approach, primary data were collected through fieldwork conducted in Aceh between November 2023 and March 2024, including in-depth interviews with ulama, community leaders, and government officials, as well as document analysis. The findings reveal that while Aceh’s cultural and religious traditions emphasize hospitality, economic instability, resource competition, and misinformation have fueled skepticism toward continued refugee acceptance. Ulama, traditionally influential in shaping public discourse, face increasing challenges from digital narratives that undermine their authority and disrupt established mechanisms for building tolerance. This study highlights the urgent need for structured refugee policies, stronger cross-sectoral collaboration, and digital engagement strategies for ulama to maintain their influence. Without strategic interventions, Aceh’s long-standing reputation for tolerance may deteriorate, underscoring the importance of adaptive governance in refugee management
Regulation of Cabinet Relations with the Government of Aceh within the Framework of a Presidential System
Law Number 11 of 2006 concerning the Government of Aceh allows the Governor of Aceh as Head of Government to be equalized with the Minister, but it is constrained by the mechanism for filling the position. From the aspect of the authority stated in Law Number 11 of 2006, it provides considerable authority in the issues of land, oil and gas, and the flag and symbol of Aceh. This idea will examine the relationship between the Aceh Government and the cabinet in depth to clarify the authority of the three above. The issues of land, oil, and gas, the flag and symbol of Aceh are held by three ministries (Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning BPN, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Ministry of Home Affairs) must be adequately resolved and handed over to the Governor of Aceh as Head of the Aceh Government so that the principles of specialness and privileges accommodated by Article 18B of the 1945 Constitution can be realized by the Aceh region which is decentralized. Management of the relationship between the Cabinet and the Aceh Government is an effort to strengthen the presidential system because the presidential system is now burdened by party elites, also impacting the Governor of the asymmetric decentralized region
