The Communication Competence of Visual Reader at Visually Impaired\u27s Cinema: (Case Study at Bioskop Harewos, Bandung, Indonesia)
Bioskop Harewos is a cinema that specialized in visually impaired film viewers in Bandung, Indonesia. The cinema runs with a traditional and distinct watching process. Some important concepts used in this research are related to communication competences; Visually impaired; and film. Using a qualitative method with constructivism paradigm and case study approach, this research tries to uncover several aspects, such as the communication capabilities of Visual Readers in Bioskop Harewos; the management effort of Bioskop Harewos in enhancing the communication effectiveness between Visual Readers and visually impaired viewers; also the competency of communication skills that required by Visual Readers. The result of this study revealed that the communication skills of Visual Readers in terms of being a prompter to visually impaired viewers were still under expectation. In terms of improving communication skills, the manager of the Bioskop Harewos has made several introductions and pre-viewing activities, yet the result is not as expected. This research also found three key competencies that are a necessity to be possessed by Visual Readers
Sundanese Family Strength: A Preliminary Study
Various studies related to family strength indicators have been carried out in various countries. However, research on family strength in Asia, especially in Indonesia, which has a variety of cultures is still not widely conducted. The purpose of this study was to properly explore key indicators of Sundanese family strength in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. This study used the qualitative approach specifically the phenomenology method. The participants were four Sundanese families in Bandung City, who identify its family members are Sundanese and are confirmed by the surrounding community as Sundanese. Data were analyzed with thematic analysis. The result uncovered five themes: 1) accommodating conflict strategy or “silih narima” 2.) positive communication 3.) the emotional intimacy 4.) knowing (philosophy of life) or “neang elmu” 5.) the social support of the family of origin. The implication of these findings is discussed
Youth Existence and Radicalism in Aceh, Indonesia
In general, the discourse on youth existence and radicalism in Aceh has been started by a radicalism map and ended by analyzing data on youth involvement in countering radicalism in Aceh. The data were presented from previous facts, media publications, interviews, and observations of various sources. The result of the analysis revealed that the intensity of radicalism discourse among youth had increased in 2017. It was the momentum of the development of radicalism discourse. It was reflected by the involvement of youth activists of various community, youth and university organizations in countering radicalism ideas in Aceh. Therefore, the challenge of youth existence in responding to religious radicalism unemployment and drug in Aceh is very important. It is perceived that not every single radical action reflects the ideological belief but due to social and political gaps
The Crisis of Democratic Governance in Contemporary Indonesia
This article attempts to discuss the practice of democratic governance in contemporary Indonesia. This study is essential since Indonesia is one of the countries transitioning from authoritarianism towards democracy following the fall of Suharto’s regime. This study shall answer whether democratic governance in Indonesia experiences a crisis, with a focus of analysis on the four dimensions of democratic governance, namely: (1) rule of law, (2) human rights, (3) civil society, and (4) elections and political process. This study applies a qualitative method by collecting data from document studies and literary studies. The findings in this study indicate that democratic governance in Indonesia experiences a crisis as evidenced by the remaining-weak legal supremacy in Indonesia, and the existence of violations of the implementation of human rights, eventually led to horizontal conflicts. The inability of civil society organizations to carry out their functions in democratization as an intermediary between the community and the state as well as to influence government policies for the public interest. Another recent weakness is there are still strong issues related to primordialism in the occasion of General Elections. This crisis of democratic governance shall bring Indonesia to "the decline of democracy" instead of democratic consolidation
Reconstruction of Different Religion Inheritance through Wajibah Testament
The basic principle of the judge in the decision of the Supreme Court No.16K / AG / 2010 was borrowed which according to some heirs of non-Muslim thinkers of Islam inherited inheritance through borrowed roads. Their opinion as stated by Classical Islamic Scholars. The authorities must exclude part of the legacy of the person who died as proof of him even though he did not inherit it beforehand, based on the premise that the authorities must ensure the rights of people who have not been fulfilled. According to the legal system in Indonesia, the body will include being borrowed into the absolute competence of religious courts based on Law No. 7 of 1989 concerning the Religious Courts related to Law No. 3 of 2006 concerning amendments to Law No. 7 1989 concerning the Religious Courts. Judges who refer to the inheritance of Islam in Indonesia are conducted by judges in the religious court environment with the first absolute level of competence as mandated by law
The Language of Propaganda in President Bush Jr. Political Speech
The study of this article was set out to identify the use of the language of propaganda in Bush’s political speech. It was purposed to clarify the propaganda techniques applied by Bush in order to have one point of view among the audiences. The study focused on how the techniques of propaganda occurred within Bush Jr.’s speech in which he attempted to explain the different sides of who is combating terrorism and who is performing terror. The material of analysis was the speech delivered by Bush Jr. in front of the Military Officers Association of America Meeting in 2006. This article then found that the propagandist tries to control the relationship between information and audiences’ mind through the usage of language in their political speech. It was argued that propaganda can also effectively work toward almost all types of audiences, whereas the strategy of propaganda was mostly creating a fallacious reasoning connection concerning the topics being discussed
Paths from Proactive Personality and Family Influence to Employability
Employability has become an increasingly relevant construct in modern turbulent world economic markets especially in this industrial revolution 4.0 era. Perceived employability involves self-perceived ability to achieve sustainable employment appropriate to one’s level of qualifications. Individual and family-related variables have been identified as predictors of employability in undergraduate students. However, the roles of career action behaviors of planning the future career and exploration of the world of work in these relationships are rarely known. This study aimed to examine the paths from proactive personality and family influence to employability via career planning and exploration. We collected data from 321 undergraduate students from a university in Semarang, Indonesia, M age = 19.89 years, SD age = 5.39, 67.3% female. We used scales of proactive personality, family influence, career planning, career exploration, and employability to collect the data. Structural equation modeling showed that the paths from proactive personality and family influence to employability were all partially mediated by career planning and exploration. Our results underlined the roles of career planning and exploration as mechanisms by which proactive personality and family influence exerted their influences on employability in undergraduate students. The recommendations of the findings of this study are discussed
Enhancing Moral Awareness for Racial Unity Through Islamic and Asian Civilization Course (TITAS): An Empirical Research from Non-Muslim Students’ Perspective
This article attempted to investigate the significance of the Islamic and Asian Civilization Course (TITAS) according to the point of view of non-Muslim students to form a harmonious view towards Islam besides forming and cultivating racial unity in Malaysia. This study was also conducted with expectations that TITAS will be the impetus to create moral awareness amongst non-Muslim students towards Islam and Muslims other than giving ideas that multiracial is assimilable through TITAS. This matter was aligned with the objective of the Islamic Civilization study for non-Muslim students and the goals of TITAS introduced in 1983. This study was conducted using a quantitative approach involving 203 non-Muslim students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris as the study sample. The mean was 3.81 which depicts a high-level achievement of the goals and objectives of TITAS. This showed that TITAS was able and managed to predispose moral awareness amongst non-Muslim students towards Islam and Muslims. It is also proposed that TITAS continues to be maintained as the mainstream syllabus beyond the pre-university level
The Impact of the Special Autonomy Fund on the Convergence of the Human Development Index in Aceh
Since 2008, district/city governments in Aceh have received special autonomy funds transfers from the central government. This study aimed to assess the absolute and conditional convergence of HDI in Aceh, and examine the effect of special autonomy funds and other socio-economic variables on HDI conditional convergence during the implementation of special autonomy in Aceh. The data used were secondary data with panel data covering 23 districts/cities in Aceh in 2008-2017. The analysis model used was the convergence model with the Fixed Effect panel regression analysis approach; testing analytical tools used the Hausman Test, Chow Test, and statistical tests. The regression results of the fixed effect model revealed that the occurrence of absolute HDI convergence in districts/cities in Aceh. The estimation of conditional convergence indicated that population density played a significant and significant role in driving the convergence of HDI districts/city. Special autonomy funds had a positive influence but were not significant to encourage the HDI convergence process. It was also followed by the number of working people who did not significantly influence the HDI. Therefore, policymakers in districts/cities in Aceh must continue to pay serious attention in an effort to accelerate human development, through human development priorities sourced from Aceh\u27s special autonomy fund
Existence of Sundanese Manuscripts as a Form of Intellectual Tradition in the Ciletuh Geopark Area
The variety of Sundanese manuscripts are still scattered in individual communities, as well as those already stored in various libraries and museums in West Java. The Sundanese script is still stored in the Ciletuh Geopark, Sukabumi District. This research is interesting because of the discovery of several manuscripts around the southern Sukabumi area, especially at Surade, Ciemas, and Jampang Kulon areas. Descriptive method of comparative analysis that was used trying to describe the data in detail and thoroughly, analyze it carefully, and compare those target accurately between several texts studied. While the method of the study in the form of text critique method, referred to the method of a single script, through the standard edition. The method of content review used the method of cultural studies, which reveals the existence and function of the script pragmatically in the community, especially in the Ciletuh Geopark. The results of the research can be considered as "the documents and local wisdom of Sundanese culture", which deserves to be addressed wisely in the hope that the content contained in it is able to reveal the history of the life of Ciletuh Geopark, either through written tradition, folklore, and culture
