The Importance of Maintaining the Neutrality of State Civil Apparatus Based on the Values of the Malay Culture
This article described the various phenomena of violations by the State Civil Apparatus in the momentum of the democratic party in Indonesia and aimed to determine the extent to which Malay Cultural Values can maintain the neutrality of the State Civil Apparatus. This study used an exploration-oriented literature review method. Then, data were obtained through documentation techniques by reviewing and exploring several journals, books, and other related documents. To analyze the data, the content analysis method was used to get valid conclusions based on the context. The results showed that some Malay cultural values that must be possessed by the State Civil Apparatus were the principles of honesty, justice and truth, hard work and perseverance, shame, and compassion. All the principles taught can maintain the neutrality of the State Civil Apparatus if each individual has high awareness and commitment to do so. Thus, the values taught by the Malay Culture have an essential meaning in maintaining the neutrality of the State Civil Apparatus
Collaborative Govenance in Preserving the Malay Culture of Riau
The Riau Government is committed to preserving the Riau Malay Culture as stated in the Riau Vision 2025. The current facts show that there is a severe weakening of the Malay Culture in Riau Province. This can be seen from the ethics, grammar, fashion, culinary, art, and Malay traditions that the Riau Malay community is starting to leave. The purpose of this study was to determine collaborative governance in the effort to preserve the Riau Malay Culture. The research method used is qualitative. The results of this study indicated that the Riau Government is not committed to achieving its vision, which is reflected in government policies. Lack of a roadmap for a cultural vision so that a network structure between stakeholders was not formed, the master plan owned by each stakeholder was not integrated, and was not interdependent, did not have a standard measure that describes procedures and authority in action, there was no function of joint decision-making and sharing of responsibilities, and there was no communication and flow of information between stakeholders so that collaborative governance in the preservation of Riau Malay culture was not carried out
The Transformation of Balinese Satua Values: Strengthening the Character Education of the Alpha Generation: (A Case study at Saraswati Tabanan Kindergarten, Bali)
The study aims at describing the transformation of the Balinese satua values for strengthening the alpha generation (Gen A)’s character education in Kindergarten Saraswati Tabanan. The method used was qualitative research with a Cultural Studies approach. The results showed that Masatua (storytelling) was carried out for twenty minutes every “Thursday Cultures" in Balinese, such as Masatua Siap Selem, and Ni Bawang Teken Ni Kesuna. They were very happy to listen to stories because they were supported by pictures media, the narrator were hilarious and familiar, interspersed with dialogues and Balinese folk songs. Previously, the characters of the Gen A was relatively less independent or less confident, spoiled, and egocentric. After Gen A were given Balinese storytelling continuously, there were process internalization of balinese satua values, which can influence the strengthening of the character of children, such as children become independent, confident, religious, honest, disciplined, tolerant, creative, and responsible. In conclusion, the Balinese satua contains noble moral values that can be told to children with practical ways, and pragmatic manner in a pleasant atmosphere. Masatua was carried out sustainable so that it became a habit, culture and can strengthen the characters of Gen A, and also preservation and development of local wisdom
Correlation of Islamic Spirituality in Reducing Student’s Delinquency Problems
This study aimed to identify the relationship between Islamic spirituality and the level of delinquent behavior. Islamic spirituality among students is studied in terms of belief and faith, extrinsic and intrinsic aspects. This study used the survey method. The sample of this study was selected using random sampling. Data was collected from a pilot sample of 120 Malay students studying in ordinary secondary schools in Johor using questionnaires. The research questionnaire used Islamic Spiritual Disposition Questionaire (ISDQ) developed by Mohd Zailani (2009) and Delinquency Behaviour Disposition questionnaires developed by Carl Jung’s (1997). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The analysis of the study showed that there is a significant relationship between the dimensions of Islamic spirituality and the level of delinquent behavior among students. The findings of the study showed that the domains involved in Islamic spirituality may reduce the tendency of delinquent behavior among students
Adat Court in Aceh, Indonesia: a Review of Law
This article aims to find out the legal position, authority, and structure of adat(customary) court in Aceh. This study used juridical methods. Data were obtained through literacy studies by examining such as the rule of laws, books, and journals. Data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the study showed that adat court in Aceh has a significant position in the legislative system. The authority of the adat court in Aceh is able to resolve small disputes that occur in society. The structure of adat court in Aceh is divided into land and sea areas. Adat court in the land territory consists of the village and the mukim adat court, and the sea territory consists of lhok and district adat court
Teungku Chiek Dirundeng\u27s Struggle in Confronting Dutch Colonial
This research discussed about the study of TeungkuChiekDirundeng’s struggle in confronting Dutch colonial. Teungku Chiek Dirundeng was one of the Moslem scholars and one of the fighters in South West Coast, who had developed human civilization and education through dayah. Moreover, he found the Dutch in order to defend the territory; the war was called by the Sabil (holy) war. The term of the Sabil War had motivated his troops and followers to have a high fighting spirit. This story was enshrined in Aceh story, namely Hikayat Teungku in Meukek. This research applied qualitative methods. It told about his birth and his struggle comprehensively. The data were collected through interviews, observation and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The findings of this study revealed that Teungku Chiek Dirundeng as a respected figure in society. He was also identical with the dayah education since he had promoted establishing the dayah. Dayah was a building center for guiding the human to understand religious values and the sabil war ideology to defy Dutch colonial. There were some dayahs built by Teungku Chiek Dirundeng such as dayah in DamaTutong, in Meukek, in Plumat, in Labuhan Haji, and the last in Rundeng, Meulaboh. On the other hand, Teungku Chiek Dirundeng was a fighter who continually fought the Dutch. In 1893, he, along with his troops, had confronted with the other Muslims, namely Teuku Raja Hitam (UleeBalang/King of Meulaboh). In this war, Teungku Chiek Dirundeng and his troops got defeated because Ulee Balang was assisted by the Dutch
Citizen’s Level of Participation and Satisfaction in the Conduct of Barangay Assembly: A Case of One Philippine LGU
The purpose of this paper was to examine the extent of citizen’s participation and satisfaction in local governance in view of the powers of barangay assembly as stated in the Local Government Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 7160). This study aims at exploring the dynamic interplay of citizen’s satisfaction in the conduct of barangay assembly relative to their participation to said assembly as platform towards participatory local governance. Based on the results of our study, we recommended that LGU participation and regular attendance in barangay assemblies should be intensified, along with that, citizen’s participation and satisfaction right after the conduct of the assembly should have feedback mechanism, and based on the findings of our study we present policy implications and insights essential for the enhancing what is contain in Chapter 6 of the Local Government Code of the Philippines
The Projection of Cultural Shift Rejuvination about Fostering Islamic Education and its Counterpart within Malay Community
The article projected the cultural identity resistance to preserve the young generations within the Malay community among Southeast Asia nations. The article uncovered the challenge of cultural shifts young people to bear with global life. The Modernism way of life might not suit to the original way of life; it only took to hedonism, personal logic, and contemporary then merely to maturity. At the same time, it might also endanger the existence of Malay Identity for the long term. This article conveyed the friction of cultural shift among Malay young people who influenced to expose the change in their personal identity and role model. The friction carried a serious threat to the whole Malay as an origin identity. The article composed the research focuses on the Malay race tradition who embraces Islam as a way of life. The Malay community embraces Islamic Identity as a cultural feature “adat bersendikan syarak” the collocational Islamic tradition within the cultural identity. Women\u27s Position in Patriarchal Kinship System
Spirit of gender equalities is currently stretching amid the strong patriarchal system in North Padang Lawas District North Sumatera. In terms of education, women get the same rights as men, even in some villages, more women go to school/college than men. There is a growing slogan that is "anak do boru, boru do anak" (boys and girls are the same). Women have the freedom to choose their own spouse and are not bound to the custom of "manyunduti". However, in the economic field, wives work in the fields and tore rubber to support the family\u27s economy besides they have to do all the household works. Based on the gender perspective, this is a form of gender injustice, the namely double burden. Another form of inequality is in terms of inheritance, in which they get little part even in the form of giving (pangalehenan/ olongate). This is a form of marginalization experienced by women in North Padang Lawas District North Sumatera
Self-Efficacy of the University Students’ TOEFL Performance: Differences in the Test Skill and English Skills in TOEFL
This study aimed at reporting differences in terms of the university students’ TOEFL self-efficacy in the test skill and the English skills tested in TOEFL namely listening, structure, and reading. In conducting the study, the explanatory sequential mixed method was used as the study design, where the quantitative data from the survey was conducted first followed by the follow-up interview as the qualitative data. To collect the data in this study, a specifically designed self-efficacy questionnaire of TOEFL was distributed to the total sample of 200 university students across different disciplines from Syiah Kuala University and the University of Serambi Mekkah. The interview was then conducted with 3 selected students to have a deeper understanding of the study result. In terms of the data analysis, one-way ANOVA and t-test were used to describe the quantitative data, while the qualitative data was described and elaborated in words with detailed explanations. The result showed that there was a significant difference among the test skill and the English skills in TOEFL, where F= 13.61 (3, 796), p<0.05. The result also revealed that within the gender, only reading skill had a significant difference, where t198= -2.003, p <. 005, and within the language course participation, all the test skills and TOEFL skills were significantly different as the p-value of each skill was smaller than .005 (p< .005)
