Olfactory Imagery Ability and Subjective Well-being in Young and Elderly Adults
Get PDFThe present study examined influences of aging on olfactory imagery ability and Subjective Well-being. In the survey, two hundred young adults and two hundred elderly adults completed the Vividness Odor Imagery Questionnaire （VOIQ） and Subjective Well-being Scale. The results showed that the young adults rated higher than the elderly adults on total score of VOIQ. Additionally, the young adults rated lower than the elderly adults on total score of Subjective Well-being Scale. Significant correlations were shown between total score of VOIQ and total score of Subjective Well-being Scale in young and elderly adults. These findings suggest that olfactory imagery ability plays a significant role in Subjective Well-being.departmental bulletin pape
Translation and Annotation of“The Mathematical Classic of Sun Zi（ 孫子算経）” Vol. 1
Get PDF“The Mathematical Classic of Sun Zi” was written during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, which was listed as one of the Ten Computational Canons （算経十書） during the Tang dynasty. The aim of our research is to provide a complete translation and annotation of it from the viewpoint of our previous work on “The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art （九章算術）.”
This is the first article based on our research and results in which we studied the problems 1 to 21 of the first volume.『孫子算経』は南北朝期に書かれた算術書であり、唐代に編纂された算経十書の一つである。我々は、我々の『九章算術』研究を起点に、『孫子算経』の訳注を完成させることを目的としている。

Through reading their English writing and checking the mistakes that students make, we have learned a number of things that have been overlooked. Moreover, the examination has provided opportunities to reconfirm word usage in sentences. In this paper, the discussion centers on the usages of articles. We have noticed several typical mistakes made by students in their writing. Some of these mistakes are isolated and subjected to analysis. A Study on the Effectiveness of Environmental Consciousness for Mobility Management
Get PDFWe verified whether “environmental consciousness” was a factor in the reduction of car use based on data from JGSS-2005. No significant relation was found between environmental consciousness and the habits of car use. Also, a problematic gap is clearly seen to exist between the “consciousness” of environmental pollution caused by automobiles, and the “behavior” which leads to abstention of car use. Reconsideration of Friendship and Esteem from Descartes to Alain
Get PDFThe concepts of amitié（ friendship） and estime（ esteem） were previously investigated in the article Friendship and Esteem （Journal of Human Environmental Studies 14）, by referring to letters between Descartes and Chanut. The goals of this article are to deepen that analysis by introducing the thoughts of Alain and by focusing on a new aspect of these two concepts, and to clarify what kind of morality is necessary for human communities and whether the morality of 17th and 20th century French philosophy is still relevant in the 21st century.
