Life Problems of Low-Wage Laborers and Lower-Class People in Modern Taisho Japan: A Focus on Nagaya Tenement House Residents
During the Taisho period (1912-1926), Japan saw industrial growth, but with-it labor and life problems increased in Osaka. We see these in Kamigata Rakugo characters, who although were great contributors to industrial growth were also the laborers in the lower economic strata of society. They are ‘scrap buyers’,‘garbage separators’,‘riverwaste collectors’,‘paper re-makers’, and other menial occupations. Often the setting for the stories are the nagaya tenement houses, which they lived in. Clearly, most of them lived in poverty, the cause of many of their labor and life problems.
This paper focuses on these low-wage labors and the nagaya housing they lived in. Discussed are the actual problems they faced and the extent to which these problems were a burden. Also, some other points at issue are looked at to verify conventional theories of social life problems.
departmental bulletin pape
Comparative Analysis of the International Competitiveness on the Automobile Industry: A Focus on the Cases of 6 Major Countries in the World
The aim of this paper is to measure and compare the “revealed comparative advantage indexes” of six countries representing the global automotive industry: the United States, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Korea. Also the goal of this paper is to find out what kind of laws exist between the international competitiveness of the six countries and each country’s production volume, balance of payments, trade structure, and brand ranking.
The results of the analysis in this paper show that Japan and Germany are the countries with the highest international competitiveness in the automobile industry. In the world export market of the automobile industry, the export ratio is higher in the order of RCAI, therefore, the existence of a positive correlation between RCAI and export ratio was verified. Furthermore, a similar positive correlation was found between RCAI and the brand value of the product.departmental bulletin pape
Ride Comfort for Promoting the Use of Power Assisted Wheelchairs
In recent years, Japan has become the world's most rapidly aging society. There is urgent need to develop and research welfare equipment to support daily life of the elderly. Especially for short distance travel, it is important to develop vehicles that cover the last-one-mile(about 1.6 km). Here, we focus on wheelchairs and find the use of electric wheelchairs and power assisted wheelchairs is effective as a means of short distance travel. “Power-assist-wheelchairs” have the advantage of being able to support movement while fully using the user's upper limb functions. However, their recognition is lower than that of electric wheelchairs, and the number of shipments has not been investigated in detail. In this study, we calculated the ride comfort level values for different types of wheelchairs by measuring vibration acceleration when the wheelchair was running, and compared their performance.departmental bulletin pape
A Vibration Analysis of Model Railway Bogies by Wheelset Unbalance
Vibration of the bogie and car body becomes remarkable with train acceleration, and its effect on aspects, such as safety, riding comfort, rails or ground facilities are experienced. Railway vehicle vibration is a problem of importance in terms of safety and riding comfort requiring detailed analysis. The vibration of a railway vehicle is mainly caused by wheels and bogies running on a rail and transmitted to the car body. Of great concern is danger of derailment and riding comfort. In this paper, we focus on the natural vibration of the bogie during acceleration from low speed to high speed and verify the details of the vibration using roller rig model equipment. Comparison and analysis of experiment results and dynamic analysis software of vehicle motion is offered, with attention to vibration of rail wheelset due to mass unbalance and corresponding roller rig model.departmental bulletin pape
