Faith Blocks Fiber: The Effect of Religiosity on Internet Adoption among Indonesia’s Digital Immigrants
Indonesia has experienced a rapid increase in internet adoption over the past decade, including among older adults often labeled as digital immigrants. Despite this growth, limited research has explored how sociocultural factors, particularly religiosity, shape digital engagement among this demographic. This study investigates the extent to which religiosity affects internet adoption among digital immigrants in Indonesia, while controlling for welfare, happiness, education, gender, and employment status. Adopting a quantitative design, the research employs data from the fifth wave of the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS 2014–2015), focusing on individuals aged 35 to 69. Core variables were operationalized using validated survey instruments and analyzed through binary logistic regression via STATA 15. The finding reveals a significant negative correlation between religiosity and internet use, indicating that higher levels of religious commitment may inhibit digital engagement. Conversely, education, welfare, and happiness exhibit positive associations, with formal education emerging as the most robust predictor. The implication of this finding is that digital inclusion initiatives must be attuned to cultural and religious contexts to promote equitable and meaningful access to digital technologies.
Penggunaan internet di Indonesia meningkat pesat dalam satu dekade terakhir, termasuk di kalangan digital immigrant, yaitu orang dewasa yang mulai mengenal teknologi di usia lanjut. Meski jumlah pengguna dari kelompok usia ini terus bertambah, faktor-faktor sosial budaya yang memengaruhi keterlibatan mereka dalam dunia digital, khususnya aspek religiusitas masih jarang diteliti. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat sejauh mana religiusitas memengaruhi penggunaan internet di kalangan digital immigrants di Indonesia, dengan mempertimbangkan juga faktor kesejahteraan, kebahagiaan, pendidikan, jenis kelamin, dan status pekerjaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan data dari Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) tahun 2014–2015, yang mencakup responden berusia 35 hingga 69 tahun. Variabel-variabel kunci dianalisis menggunakan regresi logistik biner dengan bantuan STATA 15. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat religiusitas yang tinggi berkaitan dengan kemungkinan lebih rendah untuk menggunakan internet. Sebaliknya, pendidikan, kesejahteraan, dan kebahagiaan berhubungan positif dengan penggunaan internet, dengan pendidikan menjadi faktor paling kuat. Implikasi dari temuan ini adalah bahwa strategi perluasan akses digital sebaiknya mempertimbangkan nilai-nilai budaya dan agama sehingga dapat mendorong pemanfaatan teknologi yang lebih inklusif dan diterima masyarakat
Motivasi Berprestasi Siswa Ditinjau dari Efikasi Diri dan Dukungan Sosial Orangtua
Achievement motivation is the drive within an individual to achieve success with all his efforts and abilities in accordance with established standards and to be superior to others. In order for students to have achievement motivation, they need to pay attention to the factors that influence achievement motivation, both internal and external. Previous research shows the role of self-efficacy and parental social support in influencing a person\u27s drive to succeed. Based on this, this research aims to examine the relationship between student achievement motivation in terms of self-efficacy and parental social support. Quantitative methods were used as research method. There were 243 high school/equivalent students in Kuok District who were the research samples using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using an adapted scale of the Motivation Achievement Inventory, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and a modified scale of the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale. Then non-linear regression analysis technique was used to analyze the research data. The research results showed a significant and positive relationship between self-efficacy and achievement motivation with an effective contribution of 22.5%. Then there was a significant and positive relationship between parental social support on achievement motivation and an effective contribution of 15.3%. It could be concluded that the increase in students\u27 achievement motivation was due to an increase in students\u27 self-efficacy. Then, on the other hand, this is also due to the increase in parental social support that students receive.
Motivasi berprestasi adalah dorongan dalam diri individu untuk mendapatkan kesuksesan dengan segenap usaha dan kemampuan sesuai dengan standar yang ditetapkan serta menjadi lebih unggul dibanding orang lain. Agar siswa memiliki motivasi berprestasi perlu memperhatikan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi motivasi berprestasi baik internal dan eksternal. Penelitian terdahulu memperlihatkan peran efikasi diri dan dukungan sosial orangtua memengaruhi dorongan seseorang untuk sukses. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan menguji hubungan motivasi berprestasi siswa ditinjau dari efikasi diri dan dukungan sosial orangtua. Metode kuantitatif digunakan sebagai metode penelitian. Terdapat 243 siswa Sekolah Menengah Atas/Sederajat di Kecamatan Kuok yang menjadi sampel penelitian dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan skala adaptasi Motivation Achievement Inventory, General Self-Efficacy Scale, dan skala modifikasi the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis regresi non linear. Hasil penelitian menunjukan hubungan yang signifikan dan positif antara efikasi diri terhadap motivasi berprestasi dengan sumbangan efektif sebesar 22,5%, terdapat hubungan signifikan dan positif antara dukungan sosial orang tua terhadap motivasi berprestasi dengan sumbangan efektif sebesar 15,3%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa meningkatnya motivasi berprestasi siswa karena adanya peningkatan efikasi diri dalam diri siswa. Kemudian dilain sisi juga diakibatkan karena meningkatnya dukungan sosial orang tua yang diterima siswa
Pelatihan Remaja Tangguh Untuk Menurunkan Homesickness Santri Di Pondok Pesantren
Homesickness is a problem that often occurs in students who live in dormitories, including Islamic boarding schools. Resilience is a protective factor in cases of homesickness. The Resilient Youth Training was prepared by researchers based on the concept of resilience to help deal with the problem of homesickness. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of Resilient Youth Training in reducing the level of homesickness in participants. Participants consisted of 18 students aged 12-15 years who were divided into experimental and control groups with 9 participants each. The research design is a two-group pretest and posttest design. Data collection used the Homesickness Questionnaire in the Likert model. Data analysis used the Mann Whitney U-Test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and N-Gain-Score. The results showed significant differences between the experimental and control groups (post-test: p=.012; follow-up: p=0.000). Resilient Youth Training was effective in reducing the level of homesickness in research participants (pretest-posttest: p=0.001; posttest-follow-up: p=0.002), with an N-Gain Score of 52.1%
Homesickness merupakan permasalahan yang sering terjadi pada siswa yang tinggal di asrama, termasuk pondok pesantren. Ketangguhan atau resiliensi menjadi salah satu faktor protektif pada kasus homesickness. Pelatihan Remaja Tangguh disusun peneliti berdasar konsep resiliensi untuk membantu menangani permasalahan homesickness. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas Pelatihan Remaja Tangguh dalam menurunkan tingkat homesickness pada partisipan. Partisipan terdiri dari 18 santri berusia 12-15 tahun yang terbagi menjadi kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol dengan masing-masing berjumlah 9 partisipan. Desain penelitian adalah two-group pretest and posttest design. Pengumpulan data menggunakan Kuesioner Homesickness model Likert. Analisis data menggunakan Mann Whitney U-Test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test dan N-Gain-Score. Hasil menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol (post-test: p=0.012; follow-up: p=0.000). Pelatihan Remaja Tangguh efektif dalam mengurangi tingkat homesickness pada partisipan penelitian (pretest-posttest: p=0.001; posttest-follow-up: p=0.002), dengan N-Gain Score sebesar 52.1%
Cultivating Santri Business Skills: Communication Strategies at Asshiddiqiyah II Islamic Boarding School
Communication has an important role in supporting the process of education and learning. To make the learning material well transformed for santri (students), an appropriate and effective communication strategy is needed. Thus, this study analyzes communication strategies in empowering entrepreneurship at Pesantren Asshiddiqiyah 2, Tangerang. This is a qualitative study and uses a case study method. Its data was collected by case studies, in-depth interviews and literature studies. Its results reveal that ustadz (teachers) in the pesantren (Islamic Boarding Schools) tend to act more as communicators in entrepreneurship learning. The message packaging strategy, which includes religious lessons, general lessons, entrepreneurship, and life skills, was delivered in three ways. The first is applying the local content curriculum to the formal learning process, the second is integrating entrepreneurship values with extracurricular activities, and the third is conveying a message of independence and responsibility in daily life within the pesantren environment. Meanwhile, the channels used is face-to-face communication and the media. The communicants involved were students of Classes 10, 11 and 12. Scroll and Shop: Exploring Online Shopping Culture in the Digital Media Era
The purpose of this paper is to describe the phenomenon of widespread use of online shopping platforms, which is framed as consumption behavior in media culture. The phenomenological method was used in this study, which involved four informants who were interviewed in-depth about their experiences with online shopping platforms. According to the studies, even though informants could use online shopping applications, some still saw it as an alternative to traditional shopping practices. In contrast, others indicated that online shopping had become their daily behavior. Additionally, the study highlights that although informants recognize the benefits and convenience of online shopping, they are also aware of its drawbacks. This awareness underscores the need for consumers to be cognizant of the risks associated with online shopping activities. As online shopping becomes increasingly popular, it remains essential to carefully consider its advantages and disadvantages to avoid potential problems. Overall, the study provides insights into how online shopping is perceived and utilized, emphasizing the importance of balancing its benefits with the awareness of its inherent risks

United Nations Fund for Population Activity (UNFPA) became one of the international organizations that is active in giving aid to help social and gender issues such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The Egypt government itself has made regulations related to the prohibition of FGM that clearly resulted giving the negative impact on women, such as on health sector and women\u27s rights regarding private affairs. The presence of UNFPA and NCW is expected to be able to suppress and reduce the potential growth of FGM cases through the cooperation. With concerns related to gender inequality and misogyny, through this study, this analysis will be using the theory of liberal feminism and the International Organization Theory as the basis regarding to UNFPA – NCW’s efforts in supporting the Egyptian Government’s project to eliminate FGM in Egypt by 2030. This research will use qualitative method including document-based research and interview with Hala Yousry as the professor of rural sociology and as Vice Head of Rural Women Committee at the NCW This research is expected to be able to increase readers\u27 awareness of the impact of FGM and how the international organizations and the country’s government combating the specific issue.

Formulating the Novelty of Communication Research in Post-Covid-19 Era
This study aimed to uncover innovative research topics about communication in the post-Covid-19 pandemic. Bibliometric analysis depicted research topic trends within a certain period from big data and online publications on specific sites to find research novelties. Data analysis used VosViewer. Several 1000 of the most relevant 5562 articles were analyzed using network, overlay, and density visualization. Network visualization analysis found 12 clusters with 13 communication topics. Further analysis indicated that three communication topics emerged as central themes. Novelty research was possible on other issues such as public relations, internal communication, communication theory, science communication, misinformation, and public opinion. An overlay visualization analysis revealed eight topics that lacked communication themes in recent COVID-19 research. However, opportunities for novel research were found in issues like information and communication technologies, crisis communication, public relations, internal communication, communication theory, science communication, and public opinion. The density visualization analysis revealed that previous studies focused on communication, risk communication, and social media. Therefore, this study suggests that future communication research during the post-COVID-19 recovery period should explore information and communication technologies, crisis communication, public relations, internal communication, communication theory, science communication, and public opinion
Routinizing Charisma: The Rise of Gus and the Transformation of Pesantren in Jepara, Indonesia
Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia serve as influential socio-religious institutions deeply rooted in tradition and community life. Central to their continuity is the figure of the kiai, whose charismatic authority historically shapes both religious practice and institutional governance. This study aims to examine the sociological consequences of leadership transmission from kiai to gus, particularly how this transmission of charisma drives institutional transformation in response to global challenges. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research was conducted at Pesantren Al-Mustaqim in Jepara, Central Java. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Four informants were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of one gus (as the key informant), one alumni, and two members of the local community. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion verification. The findings reveal that the hereditary transmission of leadership functions as a mechanism for both preserving charismatic legitimacy and introducing adaptive educational reforms. The gus emerges not merely as a successor, but as a transformative agent who bridges traditional Islamic pedagogy with institutional modernisation. The implication of this study is the importance of the routinization of charismatic authority from kiai to gus, which not only strengthens the cultural foundations of the pesantren but also enables for the adaptation of Islamic education to meet the demands of global challenges.
Pesantren merupakan lembaga sosial-keagamaan yang berpengaruh dan berakar kuat dalam tradisi dan kehidupan masyarakat Indonesia. Keberlanjutan pesantren bertumpu pada peran sentral kiai, yang secara historis memiliki otoritas karismatik dalam membentuk praktik keagamaan dan struktur kelembagaannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konsekuensi sosiologis dari proses transmisi kepemimpinan dari kiai ke gus, khususnya bagaimana transmisi kharisma ini mendorong transformasi kelembagaan dalam merespon tantangan global. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif berupa studi kasus, penelitian ini dilakukan di Pesantren Al-Mustaqim di Jepara, Jawa Tengah. Data dikumpulkan melalui: wawancara semi-terstruktur, observasi partisipan, dan dokumentasi. Empat informan dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, yang terdiri dari satu gus (sebagai informan kunci), satu alumni, dan dua anggota masyarakat setempat. Analisis data mengikuti model interaktif Miles dan Huberman, yang mencakup kondensasi data, tampilan data, dan verifikasi kesimpulan. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa transmisi kepemimpinan yang berlangsung secara turun-temurun berfungsi sebagai mekanisme untuk melestarikan legitimasi kharismatik dan mengawali proses pendidikan yang lebih adaptif. Gus muncul bukan hanya sebagai penerus, tetapi sebagai agen transformatif yang menjembatani pedagogi Islam tradisional dengan modernisasi kelembagaan. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah pentingnya proses rutinisasi kharisma dari kiai ke gus yang tidak hanya akan semakin memperkuat akar budaya pesantren, tetapi juga membuka ruang adaptasi proses pendidikan Islam yang lebih adaptif terhadap tantangan global
Revealing the Ecstasy of Communication upon using Tik Tok: A Virtual Ethnography in Palopo City, Indonesia
This research uses virtual ethnography to analyze TikTok usage patterns and the phenomenon of communication ecstasy among students in Palopo City. The qualitative field research method employed involves the use of questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation. A total of 53 students from universities in Palopo City participated in the questionnaire, and four were selected for further analysis through interviews. Data were analyzed using reduction techniques, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results reveal that TikTok usage is prevalent among students, with daily use averaging over three hours per day. The purpose of use varies, including entertainment, information seeking, stress relief, hobby expression, and money-making. The phenomenon of communication ecstasy is evident in students\u27 addiction to digital symbols like "like," "comment," "share," and "save." TikTok features enable students to immerse themselves in total simulation, blurring the lines between reality and virtuality, representation and reference, and facilitating the creation of simulacra and hyperreality. The implications suggest that TikTok is significantly altering communication patterns among students, leading to a shift from in-depth, meaningful interactions to more superficial, symbolic exchanges. This shift fosters a pseudo-environment where students can meticulously curate and project an idealized version of themselves, further obscuring the boundaries between authenticity and performance. As a result, the emphasis on visual storytelling and viral trends can lead to a culture of comparison and validation, potentially impacting students\u27 self-esteem and social skills in the long ter
Constructing Brand Credibility Through Influencer Personal Branding on Instagram:A Semiotic and Qualitative Analysis
The rapid growth of social media has transformed advertising strategies, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) seeking to build brand credibility in highly competitive digital environments. As audiences increasingly trust individual figures over corporate messages, influencer-based personal branding has emerged as a strategic form of digital marketing communication. This study aims to analyze how personal branding–based advertising strategies contribute to brand credibility and sales performance, using the Instagram endorsement of the Healthy Water brand by food content creator Rimbang Rayya as a case study. This research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the influencer, MSME brand owners, and active followers, complemented by Instagram content analysis and participant observation. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The analysis was guided by Peter Montoya’s Eight Laws of Personal Branding, encompassing specialization, leadership, personality, distinctiveness, visibility, unity, persistence, and goodwill. The findings indicate that Rimbang Rayya’s personal branding is constructed through consistent food-focused content, experiential product engagement, storytelling techniques, and authentic, informative communication. The integration of the eight personal branding elements successfully fosters audience trust, emotional connection, and perceived credibility, which are subsequently transferred to the endorsed brand. This strategy not only enhances the brand image of Healthy Water but also generates measurable outcomes, including increased audience engagement and significant growth in product sales. The study concludes that influencer personal branding functions as a relational and symbolic advertising mechanism capable of converting personal credibility into brand equity for MSMEs. Theoretically, this research extends the application of the Eight Laws of Personal Branding within digital influencer advertising contexts. Practically, it offers a strategic model for MSMEs to develop sustainable, trust-based advertising through authentic personal branding on social media platforms
