BRIDGING CULTURES: INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR JAKARTA PRACTITIONERS
This research aims to describe how public relations practitioners apply intercultural communication competence, who have worked in government institutions, mass media, hospitality, and other organizations with a diversity of ethnic and cultural members, and also should have specific competence to solve their problem communication in all daily activities. This research is based on an intercultural communication perspective, and interpersonal competence of public relations, with the research method being a case study, interviewing technique for gathering data, and qualitative descriptive analysis.Five key informants invited with different background organizations described that they have worked in public relations functions and follow the mechanism of intercultural communication competencies, such as motivation to communicate, sufficient knowledge of culture, appropriate communication skills, sensitivity, and character. The research result describes five competencies that have applied in their professional communication activities, especially building good relationships, mapping cultural background, having a high motivation to communicate with others, practicing relevant communication when they encounter several difficulties, then always trying to understand the psychology of others when they start to communicate, in formal or informal situation. Then, in the process of anticipating so as not to experience frustration or culture shock with communication partners from different cultures, the speakers also made adaptations, making relevant adjustments, based on the current situation, in the form of speaking in general, discussing local products, discussing the latest issues. and optimize social media. It becomes a medium to reduce the inconvenience of communicating due to differences in culture and background
JAVANESE ISLAM AND GLOBALIZATION: A STUDY ON THE SUSTAINABILITY THE ABOGE ISLAM COMMUNITY IN INDONESIA
The indigenous religion of Java has a longer historical existence compared to the currently recognized state religions. Similarly, Javanese Islam has evolved through religious syncretism with Javanese culture. Javanese Islam has served as a means to reconcile the two opposing poles of this entity, as well as a way to attract followers. Aboge Islam in Purbalingga, Central Java is one form of Javanese Islam. The existence of Aboge Islam is facing increasing threats, particularly in the era of globalization. This article will provide an overview of the current reality, obstacles, and threats faced by the Aboge Islamic community, and discuss their future. This research is conducted using the qualitative ethnographic method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with members of the Aboge Muslim community, as well as observations and document studies. The findings revealed that the Aboge Muslim community has undertaken various adaptation processes as a survival strategy to maintain its existence amidst the challenges posed by globalization. This form of adaptation is the inheritance of community values by passing down their traditional values to the younger generation, which includes \u27ngormati leluhur\u27 (the practices of ancestor worship), "melu gawe" (a Javanese term for working together), and "Turki" (Tuturan Kaki, oral transmission of knowledge and advice from parents or elders). Through this process, they hope their community will survive in the future.Religi lokal di Jawa memiliki usia lebih tua dari agama yang sekarang diakui oleh negara. Begitu juga Islam Jawa yang merupakan hasil sinkretisme religi dengan kultur Jawa. Islam Jawa menjadi jalan untuk mendamaikan dua kutub ekstrim entitas ini, sekaligus sebagai ‘jalan’ untuk mendapatkan pengikut. Islam Aboge di Purbalingga Jawa Tengah merupakan salah satu bentuk dari Islam Jawa tersebut. Keberadaan Islam Aboge semakin hari kian terancam terutama di era globalisasi. Tulisan ini akan menguraikan keberadaan komunitas Islam Aboge di masa depan, dengan melihat realitas, hambatan dan ancaman yang terjadi sekarang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif etnografi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap pemeluk Islam Aboge, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa untuk menjaga eksistensi komunitasnya di tengah pusaran globalisasi, mereka telah melakukan sejumlah proses adaptasi sebagai pilihan untuk bertahan. Bentuk adaptasi tersebut adalah pewarisan nilai-nilai komunitas melalui pengajaran kepada anak-anak mereka, seperti ngormati leluhur, melu gawe, dan Turki (Tuturan Kaki, nasehat orangtua). Melalui proses ini mereka berharap komunitas mereka akan tetap bertahan di masa depan
EXPLORING THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY FOR WEDDING CEREMONY IN DISRUPTION ERA FROM ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE
The Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred in Indonesia since 2019 has had an impact on educational, economic and social aspects, forcing people not to carry out activities that cause crowds such as wedding receptions. Restrictions on activities during the Covid-19 pandemic have an impact on the organization of weddings. The prohibition of crowding is the main factor that people must start honing their creativity by utilizing technology. The use of technology to answer public concerns about marriage in an Islamic perspective as a way to find out how Islam discusses the substance of marriage and how the use of technology can meet needs, especially in terms of marriage. Marriage has been discussed by Islam through the Qur\u27an and Hadith. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach. Research sources come from books, articles, and writings related to this research. The results of this study are Covid-19 does not hinder the implementation of marriages, Islam is so simple in the context of the validity of a marriage, namely the achievement of the pillars and conditions of a valid marriage, not from the form of the reception because the essence of marriage according to Islam is not how luxurious the reception is, but the terms and pillars of marriage must be fulfilled. so that activity restrictions are not an obstacle because the use of technology during the Covid-19 disruption era can be a solution
CULTIVATING MODERATION: AN EXAMINATION OF LOLO TAU IN THE TALLU LOLONA PHILOSOPHY FOR RELIGIOUS MODERATION EDUCATION IN THE TORAJA COMMUNITY
The presence of many beliefs and practices in society necessitates the inclusion of moderation education as a crucial component in individuals\u27 lives, with one approach being the incorporation of local knowledge. This is crucial for fostering social cohesion. This dissertation examines and presents an overview of a specific aspect of the Tallu Lolona philosophy, specifically Lolo Tau, as a means of imparting religious moderation instruction in the lives of the diverse Toraja community. The research methodology employed is descriptive qualitative, namely in the form of a literature review. The findings indicated that the significance of Lolo Tau in the Tallu Lolona philosophy represents a cultural value derived from indigenous knowledge, which may serve as a foundation for imparting religious moderation instruction. The reason for Lolo Tau\u27s reflection of lofty human qualities, such as compassion, honesty, and generosity, is derived from his own character, as well as from other individuals, ancestors, spirits, and the surrounding natural environment. The duty to preserve concord with other people is indissoluble from a duty to the Creator. The findings of this study suggest that religious moderation education should not just rely on interfaith dialogue or religious organizations, but may also be enhanced by including the positive qualities found in local wisdom.Pluritas dalam kehidupan sosial keagamaan memerlukan pendidikan moderasi sebagai sebuah bagian penting untuk ditanamkan dalam kehidupan masyarakat, salah satunya melalui kearifan lokal. Hal ini penting sebagai bagian untuk menciptakan harmonisasi sosial. Tulisan ini menganalisis serta memberikan gambaran mengenai salah satu bagian dari falsafah Tallu Lolona yaitu Lolo Tau sebagai sumber pendidikan moderasi beragama dalam kehidupan masyarakat Toraja yang plural. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif berupa studi Pustaka. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa nilai Lolo Tau dalam falsafah Tallu Lolona merupakan suatu nilai budaya kearifan lokal yang dapat digunakan sebagai sumber pendidikan moderasi beragama. Hal ini karena Lolo Tau merefleksikan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan yang tinggi, yaitu kebaikan, keikhlasan, dan kemurahan hati yang berasal dari dirinya, sesame manusia, nenek moyang, roh-roh dan alam di sekitarnya. Kewajiban menjaga keharmonisan dengan sesama manusia ini tidak terlepas dari sebuah tanggungjawab terhadap Sang Pencipta. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, harapannya pendidikan moderasi beragama tidak hanya dilakukan melalui dialog antar agama ataupun melalui insitusi keagamaan, namun juga dapat diperkuatkan dengan menggunakan nilai-nilai kebaikan yang ada dalam kearifan lokal
THE DEVELOPMENT OF HALAL TOURISM DESTINATIONS MODEL BASED ON ART CULTURE PERFORMERS OF SAPI SONOK MADURA IN PAMEKASAN REGENCY
This research aims to create a model for the development of halal tourism destinations based on the perspectives of the actors of the Sapi Sonok culture in Pamekasan, Madura. The challenge for tourism development after the pandemic is forming a concept that adheres to local wisdom. Cultural tradition can inspire the development of tourism destinations without exploiting the values of the local residents. The phenomenological approach was employed through an interpretive paradigm, and four informants were recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. Meanwhile, analysis techniques use bracket; intuitive; analysis; and description. The research reveals, first, the artistic philosophy of the actors forms social cohesion even though there is competition within it. The actors’ philosophy includes beauty contests and the beauty of animals; tancek-guyup, harmony, and gratitude as well as social cohesion. Second, harmonious forms of cultural identity are adapted to local values. Halal tourism communication methods include observation, accessibility, amenities, and promotion of business actors. Finally, the right model is the one to develop halal tourism destinations based on the cultural actors of the Madurese Sapi Sonok culture which refers to the strength of the internal community and external groups
Peran Media Sosial Dalam Meningkatkan Partisipasi Pemilih Pemula Pada Pemilu 2024
Pada 14 Februari 2024, Indonesia akan menggelar pesta demokrasi, dimana pemilih dalam pemilu kali ini didominasi oleh rentang usia 17-39 tahun. Selain itu, rentang usia ini juga merupakan rentang usia dengan jumlah pengguna media sosial terbanyak, yang bisa dikatakan media sosial juga memiliki peran penting dalam pemilu 2024. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji apakah media sosial berperan signifikan dalam meningkatkan minat dan partisipasi pemilih pemula pada pemilu 2024. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik wawancara, dan teknik yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah reduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi data. REPRESENTATION OF FEMALE MASCULINITY IN NETFLIX SERIES’ SWEET HOME
Sweet Home is a South Korean Netflix film series featuring predominantly masculine female characters. In South Korea, films or series with openly feminist issues receive backlash from parties who strongly oppose feminism. However, this film series gained success, and its masculine female characters received various praises. This study aims to identify the representation of female masculinity in the film. This study applied qualitative research using John Fiske’s semiotic analysis. It found that there are codes of masculinity in the female characters at the level of reality. The female characters are strong, athletic, active individuals, leaders, technicians, and adventurers. At the level of representation, the female characters are identified as masculinity as they are subjects who can determine attitudes and make decisions. Then, if the women in the film are allowed to speak, act, and behave like men, the women are superior to men. The female characters represent a belief that men are the opposite of women. The women need to appear to defeat or to be more significant, which can be categorized as radical feminism at the ideological level
Mindful Parenting and Anxiety in Full-time Working Mothers
Full-time working mothers face numerous challenges that can lead to anxiety. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between mindful parenting and anxiety among full-time working mothers. The participants in this study consisted of 99 mothers engaged in full-time employment. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Mindful Parenting Scale and the Anxiety Scale from the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS). Data were analyzed using product-moment correlation analysis. The results of the data analysis showed a correlation (rxy) = -0.210 with p < 0.050. This result indicates a negative correlation between mindful parenting and anxiety among full-time working mothers, meaning that higher level of mindful parenting is associated with lower level of anxiety. Conversely, lower level of mindful parenting is associated with higher level of anxiety. Therefore, it is recommended to provide intervention to enhance mindful parenting among working mothers to help reduce their anxiety. Ibu yang bekerja penuh waktu mengalami banyak tantangan yang dapat menyebabkan kecemasan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji hubungan antara mindful parenting dengan kecemasan pada ibu yang bekerja penuh waktu. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini yaitu sejumlah 99 ibu yang menjalani pekerjaan penuh waktu. Teknik sampling yang digunakan yaitu convenience sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan skala mindful parenting dan skala kecemasan dari Depression, Anxiety, and Stres Scale (DASS). Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis korelasi product moment. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi (rxy) = -0,210 dengan p < 0,050. Hasil ini mengindikasikan adanya korelasi negatif antara mindful parenting dan kecemasan pada ibu yang bekerja penuh waktu, artinya semakin tinggi mindful parenting maka semakin rendah kecemasan. Sebaliknya, semakin rendah mindful parenting maka semakin tinggi kecemasan. Dengan demikian, disarankan pemberian intervensi untuk meningkatkan mindful parenting pada ibu bekerja untuk dapat membantu mengurangi kecemasannya
INTERFAITH SOCIAL SOLIDARITY: A SOCIO-THEOLOGICAL ALTERNATIVE TO POST-PANDEMIC COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
The welfare of citizens, particularly in Sukoreno Village, Jember, East Java, has been adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia over the past 2 (two) years. Efforts based on socio-theological principles and interfaith civil society have emerged as alternative solutions to address this issue. The purpose of this article is to elucidate the manifestations of interfaith social solidarity in Sukoreno Village, Jember, East Java, as a means of overcoming the economic challenges faced by the community in the post-Covid-19 pandemic. This study employed a qualitative method. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, in-depth interviews, and document review. The findings indicated that this form of interfaith solidarity was fostered through the utilization of social capital within the community. Examples of such solidarity include social services, heightened Covid-19 awareness, and the optimization of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local village resources. While these efforts may not directly lead to significant improvements in the economic welfare of the community, they do highlight that community empowerment can be achieved through an interfaith approach.Pandemi Covid-19 di Indonesia selama 2 (dua) tahun terakhir telah menurunkan tingkat kesejahteraan warga, khususnya di Desa Sukoreno, Jember, Jawa Timur. Upaya berbasis sosio-teologi masyarakat sipil lintas agama menjadi salah satu alternatif dalam mengatasi problem tersebut. Artikel ini bermaksud untuk menjelaskan bentuk-bentuk solidaritas sosial lintas agama di Desa Sukoreno, Jember, Jawa Timur dalam mengatasi problem ekonomi masyarakat pasca pandemi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan telaah dokumen. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa bentuk solidaritas lintas agama ini muncul melalui pemanfaatan modal sosial yang ada di masyarakat. Diantaranya dalam bentuk bakti sosial, sigap Covid-19, dan optimalisasi UMKM dan potensi lokal desa. Upaya ini meskipun tidak dapat menjustifikasi peningkatan kesejahteraaan ekonomi warga, namun dapat merefleksikan bahwa pemberdayaan masyarakat dapat dilakukan dengan pendekatan lintas agama
\u27RAINWATER SHOLAWAT\u27: THE THEO-ECOLOGICAL MOVEMENT OF THE JOMBANG COMMUNITY IN COMBATING THE CLEAN WATER CRISIS
Theo-ecology has long been one of the alternative solutions to environmental problems, including in Indonesia. The Rainwater Sholawat program represents an alternative theological movement aimed at utilizing rainwater as a solution to address the scarcity of clean water sources and flood issues in East Java, particularly in Karangwinongan Village. The purpose of this article is to elucidate the theological movement behind the Rainwater Sholawat program implemented by the Air Kita Foundation in Winongan Jombang Village, East Java. This study was conducted using a qualitative research method. Data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observations, and literature review. The findings revealed that the religious approach surrounding the Rainwater Sholawat method successfully raised awareness among the residents about the advantages of rainwater as a viable source of clean water. The Rainwater Sholawat Program is implemented through the organization of festivals, educational initiatives, and supportive studies.Teo-ecology telah lama menjadi salah satu alternatif pemecahan masalah lingkungan, termasuk di Indonesia. Program Sholawat Air Hujan adalah salah satu diantara alternatif gerakan teo-ekologi yang berupaya memanfaatkan air hujan sebagai solusi atas minimnya sumber air bersih dan persoalan banjir di Jawa Timur, khususnya di Desa Karangwinongan. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan gerakan teo-ekologi pada program Sholawat Air Hujan yang dilakukan oleh Yayasan Air Kita di Desa Winongan Jombang, Jawa Timur. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan telaah Pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekataan keagamaan melalui metode Sholawatan Air Hujan mampu menyadarkan warga atas manfaat air hujan sebagai sumber air bersih.
