    The Quran In Designing Mass Communication (Study Of Interpretation Of Al Misbah\u27s)

      The Qur\u27an in designing mass communication does not only convey messages to a wide audience, but also emphasizes the values of ethical norms, truth, and justice. This article aims to deeply examine the design of mass communication from the Qur\u27an as interpreted in Al Misbah by M Quraish Shihab. The Al-Misbah interpretation emphasizes that the ultimate goal of mass communication design in the Qur\u27an is Akhlak and involves a combination of universal messages, delivery methods appropriate to the audience\u27s context, and ethics in conveying information. This article also analyzes a pattern of prophetic communication in the Qur’an perspective that is integrated with the study of communication science that has developed previously. By referring to these principles, communication design in Islam can be relevantly applied in modern life, including through mass media. The Shannon and Weaver model is related to understanding mass communication design in the Qur\u27an. This article categorizes the mass communication design in the Qur\u27an into three models: the Story model, the Repetition model, and the Gradation model. Next, it takes four Ayahs from the Qur\u27an categorized into three models in the mass communication design in the Qur\u27an, namely: QS.An-Naml: 30, QS.Ar-Rahman: 13, QS.Al-Anbiya: 92, and QS.Al-Mu\u27minun: 52. Next, it is analyzed using the tahlili method based on the Al Misbah interpretation by M. Quraish Shihab. It was found that the Qur\u27an designs its messages broadly as a form of mass communication, aimed at achieving the ultimate intercession, which is the pleasure in understanding the meaning of the messages in the Qur\u27an, in order to improve human morals in leading a peaceful lif

    Communication has an important role in supporting the process of education and learning. To make the learning material well transformed for santri (students), an appropriate and effective communication strategy is needed. Thus, this study analyzes communication strategies in empowering entrepreneurship at Pesantren Asshiddiqiyah 2, Tangerang. This is a qualitative study and uses a case study method. Its data was collected by case studies, in-depth interviews and literature studies. Its results reveal that ustadz (teachers) in the pesantren (Islamic Boarding Schools) tend to act more as communicators in entrepreneurship learning. The message packaging strategy, which includes religious lessons, general lessons, entrepreneurship, and life skills, was delivered in three ways. The first is applying the local content curriculum to the formal learning process, the second is integrating entrepreneurship values with extracurricular activities, and the third is conveying a message of independence and responsibility in daily life within the pesantren environment. Meanwhile, the channels used is face-to-face communication and the media. The communicants involved were students of Classes 10, 11 and 12.     Kesejahteraan Subjektif Guru Honorer: Trait dan State Syukur

    Amid the limitations of honorary teachers regarding welfare demands, it shows that there is still a sense of satisfaction and happiness even though the lack of income is a burden and an obstacle. These feelings indicate subjective well-being which not only influenced by material but also internal dispositions. The study aimed to examine the effect of the gratitude trait on subjective well-being directly or indirectly through the mediation of the gratitude state. Participants are honorary teachers in Surakarta with the required sample size of 122 - 144 people. Measurements were made using the subjective well-being scale, the gratitude trait scale, and the gratitude state scale. The data were tested using path analysis model regression analysis based on the procedure of the Baron & Kenny mediator. The results showed a greater role contribution to the direct effect (βc\u27 = 0.326) of the gratitude trait on subjective well-being than the indirect effect through the mediation of the gratitude state (βab = 0.068). These results provide an overview of the subjective well-being of honorary teachers associated with the gratitude trait and the gratitude state.   Di tengah keterbatasan guru honorer terkait tuntutan kesejahteraan menunjukkan masih terdapat rasa puas dan bahagia meskipun kekurangan pendapatan menjadi beban dan hambatan. Perasaan tersebut menunjukkan kesejahteraan subjektif yang bukan hanya dipengaruhi oleh material, melainkan disposisi internal. Tujuan penelitian adalah menguji pengaruh trait syukur terhadap kesejahteraan subjektif secara langsung maupun tidak langsung melalui mediasi state syukur. Partisipan adalah guru honorer di Surakarta dengan besar sampel yang dibutuhkan sebanyak 122 - 144 orang. Pengukuran dilakukan menggunakan skala kesejahteraan subjektif, skala trait syukur, dan skala state syukur. Data diuji dengan analisis regresi model analisis jalur berdasarkan prosedur mediator Baron & Kenny. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kontribusi peran yang lebih besar pada pengaruh langsung (βc’ =0.326) trait syukur terhadap kesejahteraan subjektif dibandingkan pengaruh tidak langsung melalui mediasi state syukur (βab =0.068).     Negotiating Liminal Identity and Women’s Empowerment in Pesantren Salaf

    The modernization of pesantren in Indonesia has brought significant sociological impacts, particularly in reshaping female identity amid tensions between traditional norms and modern expectations. This transformation has created a liminal space for female students (santriwati), fostering identity negotiations between adherence to traditional pesantren values and emerging aspirations as educated Muslim women. This study aims to examine how modernization processes within pesantren salaf, particularly at Pondok Pesantren Tahfidzul Qur’an (PPTQ) Nurul Falah Magetan, shape santriwati identity and facilitate women\u27s empowerment. Employing a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth and structured interviews with 15 informants, and reflective fieldnotes over more than two years. Data analysis was conducted using a thematic and interpretive approach based on case study methodology, supplemented by Spradley’s domain analysis to capture cultural meanings embedded in everyday practices within the pesantren. The findings reveal that santriwati identities develop within a complex liminal space, enabling negotiations between traditional structures and modern aspirations, and fostering empowerment through negotiated agency rather than overt resistance. The study implies that social change within pesantren salaf should be understood through the dialectics of tradition and modernity as experienced in women\u27s daily lives, and highlights the importance of developing Islamic education and gender transformation models grounded in local epistemologies. Modernisasi pesantren di Indonesia telah membawa dampak sosiologis yang signifikan, khususnya dalam membentuk kembali identitas perempuan di tengah ketegangan antara norma tradisional dan tuntutan modernitas. Perubahan ini menciptakan ruang liminal bagi santriwati, yang mendorong negosiasi identitas antara kepatuhan terhadap nilai-nilai pesantren tradisional dan aspirasi baru sebagai perempuan Muslim terdidik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana proses modernisasi di pesantren salaf, khususnya di Pondok Pesantren Tahfidzul Qur’an (PPTQ) Nurul Falah Magetan, membentuk identitas santriwati dan memfasilitasi pemberdayaan perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi, mengumpulkan data melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam dan terstruktur terhadap 15 informan, serta pencatatan lapangan reflektif selama lebih dari dua tahun. Analisis data dilakukan melalui pendekatan tematik dan interpretatif berbasis studi kasus, dengan menggunakan analisis domain Spradley untuk menangkap makna budaya yang melekat dalam praktik sehari-hari di pesantren. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa identitas santriwati berkembang dalam ruang liminal yang kompleks, memungkinkan negosiasi antara struktur tradisional dan aspirasi modern, serta membuka peluang pemberdayaan yang bertumpu pada agen negosiasi daripada resistensi terbuka. Implikasi penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa perubahan sosial dalam pesantren salaf harus dipahami melalui dialektika tradisi dan modernitas dalam pengalaman keseharian perempuan, serta pentingnya mengembangkan model pendidikan Islam dan transformasi gender yang berbasis pada epistemologi lokal

    Parental Reflective Functioning Among Parents with History of Childhood Abuse: A Preliminary Mixed-Method Study

    This preliminary study explored Parental Reflective Functioning (PRF) among parents with a history of childhood abuse. PRF, the ability to understand a child’s mental state, played a key role in breaking the cycle of intergenerational maltreatment. An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was employed, involving 10 participants in a quantitative phase and two in a follow-up qualitative phase. No significant correlation was found between childhood abuse and PRF. However, qualitative findings revealed key themes, including coping strategies, parenting outcomes and related challenges. This study provided initial insights and highlighted the need for further research with larger samples. Studi pendahuluan ini mengeksplorasi fungsi refleksi orangtua (FRO) pada orangtua dengan riwayat kekerasan di masa kanak-kanak. FRO, kemampuan untuk memahami keadaan mental anakk, berperan penting dalam memutus siklus kekerasan intergenerasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain mixed-method dengan pendekatan sekuensial eksplanatori, melibatkan 10 partisipan pada fase kuantitatif dan dua partisipan pada fase kualitatif lanjutan. Tidak ditemukan korelasi signifikan antara kekerasan di masa kanak-kanak dengan FRO. Namun, temuan kualitatif mengungkap tema-tema utama, termasuk strategi koping, outcome pengasuhan dan tantangan terkait. Studi ini memberikan wawasan awal dan menekankan perlunya penelitian lanjutan dengan jumlah partisipan yang lebih besar

    Analyzing Religious Hoaxes and Information Literacy: A Qualitative Study of @JabarSaberHoaks

    This study aims to explore how religious hoax content is interpreted and how information literacy competencies are articulated through the Instagram account @jabarsaberhoaks. Using a qualitative content analysis approach, this research analyzes seven hoax posts related to religious issues and classifies them according to First Draft’s typology of misinformation and disinformation. The findings reveal that @jabarsaberhoaks adopts a consistent educational approach that clarifies misleading religious information and embeds information literacy elements, such as fact verification, source evaluation, and hoax categorization, within each clarification post. These posts address various hoax types, including fabricated content, imposter content, manipulated content, misleading content, false context, false connection, and satire/parody. The study concludes that @jabarsaberhoaks plays a strategic role in cultivating public critical awareness and promoting digital literacy, especially in the context of religious hoaxes in West Java

    Evoking Huntington: Albania’s Democratic Transition and the Revival of Religious Freedom

    After nearly half a century of totalitarian atheism, Albania’s transition to democracy in 1991 represented one of the most complex transformations in post-communist Eastern Europe. Framed within Samuel Huntington’s ‘third wave’ of democratization, this study revisits Albania’s early years of political transition to analyze the intertwined processes of democratic change and religious revival. The aim of this research is to understand how U.S. foreign policy, particularly through diplomatic and symbolic interventions, contributed to shaping Albania’s democratization and restoration of freedom of conscience. Using a qualitative historical-political approach, the study relies on library research that integrates primary sources—including diplomatic archives, official speeches, and media documents—with secondary literature from Scopus-indexed journals and academic books. Data were thematically analyzed across six interpretive clusters, connecting political, social, and religious dimensions of Albania’s transformation. The findings reveal that U.S. diplomatic engagement, especially Secretary James Baker’s 1991 visit, catalyzed pro-democracy movements and symbolized external support for Albania’s reentry into the democratic world, while the revival of religion expanded civil liberties and strengthened pluralism. The implication of this research is that international pressure, moral encouragement, and religious freedom jointly served as enduring safeguards against authoritarian relapse and remain essential to Albania’s democratic consolidation. Setelah hampir setengah abad hidup di bawah rezim ateis totaliter, transisi demokrasi Albania pada tahun 1991 menjadi salah satu perubahan politik dan sosial paling kompleks di Eropa Timur pascakomunis. Berangkat dari kerangka ‘gelombang ketiga’ demokratisasi yang dikemukakan Samuel Huntington, penelitian ini meninjau kembali tahun-tahun awal transisi politik Albania untuk memahami kaitan antara perubahan demokratis dan kebangkitan kehidupan beragama. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menjelaskan bagaimana kebijakan luar negeri Amerika Serikat, melalui diplomasi dan simbol-simbol politik, berperan dalam mendorong demokratisasi sekaligus memulihkan kebebasan berkeyakinan di Albania. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis historis-politik melalui studi pustaka yang menggabungkan sumber primer—seperti arsip diplomatik, pidato resmi, dan laporan media—dengan literatur akademik terkini. Data dianalisis secara tematik melalui enam klaster utama yang menghubungkan dimensi politik, sosial, dan keagamaan dalam proses transformasi Albania. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan diplomatik Amerika Serikat, terutama melalui kunjungan bersejarah James Baker pada tahun 1991, menjadi katalis bagi gerakan pro-demokrasi dan menandai dukungan internasional bagi kembalinya Albania ke dunia demokratis, sementara kebangkitan agama memperluas kebebasan sipil dan memperkuat pluralisme.     Unmasking Political Branding of Comedian Candidates in Indonesia: A Discourse Network Analysis

    In Indonesia, the representation of comedians in the legislature remains limited, although the 2024 elections saw a notable increase in comedian candidates. They are, however, still under-represented. The recent increase in the number of comedians running for office reinforces the urgency of research on how  this phenomenon is understood, negotiated, and debated in the public sphere. This research examines the construction of discourse in relation to the portrayal of comedians in Indonesian politics through online media coverage. Discourse Network Analysis (DNA) is employed to map  discourse coalitions and the connections between actors that shape public perception. An analysis of 80 online news articles, published between January and October 2023, identified 548 statements from various actors, which were then categorised based on their roles and affiliations. Network metrics, specifically weighted density and degree centrality, confirm high coalition cohesion and the dominance of the popularity frame. This resulting network revealed two distinct  actor groups of 44 each. One coalition comprising  comedians and politicians leverages popularity as a form of political capital to secure public endorsement and media coverage. In contrast, a coalition of academics, politicians, and media commentators has condemned this approach as an unstable representation that may erode democratic principles. This research supports the notion that comedians in politics have become an emerging topic of discussion, one that transcends traditional concerns with celebrity and public favourability. Further studies are recommended to longitudinally explore shifts in discourse coalitions, particularly within Indonesia’s open,  proportional electoral system, which encourages the personalisation of candidates

    Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi peran ritual sembahyang tradisional dalam membentuk ketenangan jiwa pada penghayat Kepercayaan Budi Luhur di Kecamatan Wonokerto, Kabupaten Pekalongan. Isu utama yang diangkat adalah bagaimana komunitas minoritas ini mampu mencapai ketenangan psikologis di tengah stigma sosial dan keterbatasan pengakuan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana ketenangan jiwa terbentuk melalui praktik sembahyang yang mereka jalankan. Adapun fokus utamanya adalah menganalisis pelaksanaan sembahyang serta dampaknya secara spiritual dan psikologis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus, melibatkan lima informan yang terdiri dari tokoh dan warga aktif penghayat. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi partisipatif, kemudian dianalisis dengan model interaktif Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sembahyang, khususnya sujud, berfungsi seperti praktik mindfulness yang berakar pada kearifan lokal, mendorong ketenangan, penerimaan, dan hubungan spiritual. Praktik ini mencerminkan penyatuan nilai sakral dan profan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, serta menjadi sumber kekuatan batin untuk menjalani hidup dengan damai dan bermakna.     Unveiling Symbolic Violence in the Daily Practices of Journalists in Jakarta

    This research uncovers symbolic violence in the working practices of journalists in Jakarta. According to Bourdieu, symbolic violence is violence that is invisible to the naked eye, operates with symbols, and is a form of domination from the powerful one to a dominated individual. The researcher argues that the practices in the media industry in Jakarta cannot be separated from the dominated and dominating parties; in this case, the journalists as a party dominated by media structures and source persons. This research uses a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm with a case study method on journalists in Jakarta. Researcher found the practices of symbolic violence that occurred in six journalists in Jakarta are by giving envelopes containing cash to the journalists for favorable coverage and by allowing them to get money from advertisements in exchange for their unpaid work. Researcher also found that they received luxury goods from one of the source persons who was considered to have contributed to the interests of the person. They do not realize and do not care that they are victims of symbolic violence. Those who are victims of symbolic violence are accused by habitus, economic capital, and cultural capital
