This paper evaluates the initiative’s impact, critiques its planning, and strategizes for future success. It discusses the evolution of the School of Green Series, its community impact, and future directions. The paper also provides a contextual framework reflective analysis and outlines personal motivations and aspirations. Through meticulous documentation and archival research methods, this project aims to detail the significance of the School of Green Series in promoting environmental education and inclusivity. The comprehensive event report will not only analyze successes and areas for improvement but also reflect on personal motivations and aspirations that have driven this project forward. This project seeks to enhance the School of Green Series for a lasting impact on diverse populations by evaluating participant feedback, critiquing educational initiatives, and engaging with local communities
What Black teachers have to say about the push to remove Critical Race Theory in schools
Get PDFCritical Race Theory (CRT) and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in K-12 classrooms have been a contentious issue which has resulted in some U.S. states passing laws that prohibit these topics from being included in classrooms. Literature on critical race theory and the subsequent public policies have shown that professionals in the field of education are under informed about CRT and anti-CRT laws. This research paper explores the opinions of four black 6-12 educators on how DEI and CRT emerge in their classrooms, the implications anti-CRT laws would have on their classrooms, and how their careers would be impacted by anti-CRT policies. The findings of this study showcase preliminary data that educators are against these policies, they policies have the potential to bring great harm to students, and that these policies do not influence teachers’ decisions to remain educators
Evaluating the effects of disability on preferred proximity
Get PDFPeople with disabilities frequently face the barriers of prejudice, stereotypes, low expectations, and the doubt that they can be adequate romantic partners. This study sought to examine whether the description of a target individual’s proximity to disability would inform the participants’ preference for social closeness or social distance from the target. The target individuals described in the vignettes varied in their proximity to disability in that one target was disabled and did not disclose their identity, the second was likewise disabled and disclosed this, the third was not disabled themself but had a disabled sibling, and the last vignette described an able-bodied individual and without connection to any disabled person. The study included questionnaires that targeted participants’ willingness to socially approach the described vignette or avoid them, through asking the participants’ willingness to engage in activities or behaviors that would establish and maintain a social relationship versus engage in behaviors that would allow the participant to maintain social distance from the vignette. The results suggested that, overall, the vignette that participants were most willing to approach and least likely to avoid was the vignette describing the control: a non-disabled individual without ties to anyone with a disability. Interestingly, the vignette the participants reported the lowest likelihood of approaching and highest rate of avoiding was the undisclosed vignette, which depicted an individual who suggested symptoms of a disability, but did not disclose their diagnosis. As well, we included demographic data on participants’ prior experience with disabled people, which was compiled into a factor we labeled ‘familiarity’, and this factor correlated with statistically significant differences in the approach scores of both the undisclosed and disclosed disability vignettes corresponding with higher familiarity scores

The Porter 5 Forces Framework identifies key forces within Amazon’s industry that could result in negative or positive impact. The financial statement analysis measures the financial health and capability of the company. The economic analysis analyzes the current state of the economy and its effect to Amazon. The review of the company reveals significant risks that create undesirable performance of Amazon’s stock price. Major findings were that Amazon holds promising ability to generate future cash flows from operations and minimize the impact of losses from unsuccessful operations. The United States economy is found to be in a current state of recession. The investment recommendation highlights important suggestions for the investor
Development of an executive functioning intervention to improve asthma self-management in Black adolescents and young adults: Preliminary feedback and future considerations
Get PDFn the United States, asthma is the most common chronic medical condition in youth, and it disproportionately affects Black adolescents. Numerous studies document poor asthma self-management for adolescents and young adults (AYAs), which compromises treatment effectiveness and drives up healthcare costs. However, it remains unclear how to increase health-promoting behaviors and reduce health disparities between Black AYAs and other races who experience better asthma-related outcomes. Interventions have been developed to improve adolescent self-management, yet few comprehensively address the psychological, cognitive, and contextual components that may interfere with an AYA\u27s engagement in health behaviors, and few have developed interventions utilizing AYA input. The current study aimed to describe variables to consider in developing a psychological intervention and obtain initial feedback on an adapted four-session, group-administered executive functioning intervention for Black AYAs with asthma. First, participants were surveyed to assess their general preferences for the format and content of the intervention described above. Part of this process included having participants review brief videos that described, rather than instantiated, the proposed video interventions. After viewing these videos, participants were asked to provide feedback on the proposed outlines described in each video. Findings from this study indicated that even before reviewing the proposed intervention materials, most participants were interested in being a part of an asthma self-management intervention, irrespective of whether it was designed for Black AYAs. Following their review of the proposed intervention, participants’ feedback included the following general themes: (a) participants were interested in learning more about the intervention, (b) they wanted the intervention to be more detailed and specific to Black individuals with asthma, and (c) they saw the potential benefits of participating in a group format. Further implications, limitations, and future directions for this study are discussed
Identifying nutrient dynamics and relative groundwater contribution in wetlands at Fish Lake Environmental Center, Lapeer MI
Get PDFWetlands are complex ecosystems that are dependent on hydrologic processes and water chemistry. Understanding the role that water chemistry and nutrients play in wetland ecosystems is crucial to wetland management and restoration. The Fish Lake Environmental Education Center near Lapeer Michigan, is glacially influenced, and contains a large bog. Between the bog and lake there are multiple kettles that contain ephemeral wetlands in the spring. Bogs are primarily precipitation sourced, whereas the kettle wetlands may be a combination of precipitation and groundwater sourced. Previous studies indicated that groundwater flow direction is towards Fish Lake, but it was unclear to what extent groundwater is affecting the wetlands north of the lake. The goal of this project was to understand the relative contribution of both precipitation and groundwater in the bog and kettle wetlands north of Fish Lake. Identifying the primary water source in these wetlands will aid in their restoration and management.
Monthly and bi-weekly sampling from shallow groundwater and surface water occurred between May 2022 and September 2023. Field data collection included pH, electrical conductivity, temperature, and water level. Laboratory water sample analysis included nitrate, nitrite, phosphorus, iron, sulfate, and turbidity. Nitrogen (nitrite & nitrate) and phosphorous concentrations were highest on average in the kettles. The bog and kettles all have an acidic pH, however the average pH values in the kettles are lower closer to the bog, and higher closer to the lake. These data suggest that the wetlands closest to the lake are more heavily groundwater influenced, and become more precipitation sourced towards the bog. This study supports other wetland research at Fish Lake
