Assessment of the relationships among exhibition dimensions, expenditure, and evaluation: A study of five generations
Analyzing a total of 15,718 responses from visitors to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Exhibition, this study assessed the generational effects on exhibition dimensions, expenditure items and evaluation indicators. Analysis revealed that three exhibition dimensions (exhibits, concessions, and facility) and four expenditure items (tickets, dining, retail/shopping, and entertainment) differed significantly across generations including Silents, Boomers, Gen-X, Gen-Y, and Gen-Z. Moreover, all evaluation indicators differed significantly by generation. Theoretical and managerial implications of the study are discussed with specific recommendations for the exhibition and event market
Alcohol intoxication, condom use rationale, and men\u27s coercive condom use resistance: The role of past unintended partner pregnancy
Objective: Cisgender men’s condom use resistance (CUR), deliberate attempts to avoid using a condom with a partner who wishes to use one, may include coercive strategies, such as deception and force, and places their partners at risk for unintended pregnancy and sexually transitted infections (STIs). This investigation used an alcohol administration design to examine one distal (history of unintended partner pregnancy) and two proximal (acute alcohol intoxication, condom use rationale) contributors to men’s intentions to engage in coercive CUR. Method: Nonproblem drinking, cisgender men (N = 313) completed questionnaires, then were randomized to a beverage condition (control, placebo, low dose [.04%gm], and high dose [.08%gm]). Participants completed a sexual risk analog and reported their coercive CUR intentions after a hypothetical, female partner provided a condom use rationale (STI avoidance or pregnancy avoidance). Results: Men who received the pregnancy condom use rationale reported higher intentions to engage in coercive CUR when they received a high alcohol dose relative to sober men. For men who had a history of unintended partner pregnancy, receiving a pregnancy condom use rationale was associated with greater intentions to have forced, condomless sex if they received a high alcohol dose relative to sober men. Conclusions: Intoxicated men may be more likely to engage in coercive CUR; this may indicate that when intoxicated, pregnancy risks are less salient relative to STI-related outcomes. As reproductive rights are being decimated, effective interventions targeting CUR, particularly when intoxicated, are needed in tandem with policies that affirm one’s ability to prevent and terminate pregnancy
An analytical approach for offshore structures considering soil-structure interaction
This paper presents an advanced analytical approach for the design and analysis of fixed offshore structures with soil structure interaction considered. The proposed methodology involves conducting case studies to illustrate and assess the structural response of a structure considering seven different earthquakes, with the primary goal of ensuring there is no global collapse in the structures. The case studies focus on developing a model for structural analysis and its topside, incorporating nonlinear axial and lateral springs to capture soil-pile interaction. Additionally, mass and damping ratios are considered through the use of dashpots in the analyses. Finite Element Software was employed for structural analyses with detailed modeling, with soil spring nodes applied in the entire structure across various depths. After the finite element analysis was carried out, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to quantify and report the effects of different parameters

An experimental and analytical approach to evaluate transponder-based aircraft noise monitoring technology
Aviation is a vital modern transportation sector connecting millions of passengers globally. Sustainable aviation development holds substantial community benefits, necessitating effective management of its environmental impacts. This paper addresses the need for an accurate and cost-effective aircraft noise monitoring model tailored to non-towered general aviation airports with limited resources for official air traffic data collection. The existing literature highlights a heavy reliance on air traffic data from control facilities in prevailing aircraft noise modeling solutions, revealing a disparity between real-world constraints and optimal practices. Our study presents a validation of a three-stage framework centered on a low-cost transponder unit, employing an innovative experimental and analytical approach to assess the model’s accuracy. An economical Automatic Dependent Surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) receiver is deployed at Purdue University Airport (ICAO Code: KLAF) to estimate aircraft noise levels using the developed approach. Simultaneously, a physical sound meter is positioned at KLAF to capture actual acoustic noise levels, facilitating a direct comparison with the modeled data. Results demonstrate that the developed noise model accurately identifies aircraft noise events with an average error of 4.50 dBA. This suggests the viability of our low-cost noise monitoring approach as an affordable solution for non-towered general aviation airports. In addition, this paper discusses the limitations and recommendations for future research
Meals On Wheels clients: Measurable differences in the likelihood of aging in place or being hospitalized
Little is known about how participation in home-delivered meal programs (known as Meals on Wheels), financed in part through the Older Americans Act, relates to the use of health services and the ability to age in place for elder Medicare beneficiaries. Using 2013–20 data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study, we evaluated the relationship between Meals on Wheels use and two outcomes—likelihood of continued community residence and risk for hospitalization—in the following year for Medicare beneficiaries ages sixty-five and older, overall and by gender, race, Medicaid enrollment, and frailty. Overall, Meals on Wheels users and nonusers were equally likely to still reside in the community one year later; however, continued community residence was more likely among users than nonusers who were Black, were enrolled in Medicaid, or were frail. Program use was marginally associated with increased likelihood of hospitalization in the following year overall, but more strongly so among frail users. Our findings are consistent with the heterogeneity of Medicare-age Meals on Wheels users nationwide and suggest that program benefits differ among specific populations
Human Capital: Understanding the Policy and Fiscal Implications of Prison Gerrymandering
This study will examine prison gerrymandering and its impact on residents of Metro Detroit. This analysis examines the fiscal, political, and municipal impact of prison gerrymandering on representation, taking into account the history of racially motivated disenfranchisement and political marginalization. Included are interviews with elected officials, social justice advocates, and formerly incarcerated individuals. The objective of the study is to explore the policy implications of prison gerrymandering and the process of transplanting incarcerated persons for funding purposes, in underserved communities. Through this examination, the approach demonstrates the relationship between the historical foundations that have perpetuated electoral inequalities, such as the Jim Crow Era, and reintroduces the possibility of addressing this issue in Michigan. The results indicated that prison gerrymandering has disproportionately negative fiscal effects on the substantive political representation of predominantly underrepresented communities, resulting in the siphoning of federal and state funds in premeditated communities that foster a cycle of incarceration
