Microwaves assisted synthesis of IrRu alloy nanoparticles for acidic oxygen evolution reaction: a balance between activity and stability

Under the background of renewable hydrogen generation through proton exchange membrane water electrolysis, here we report highly efficient and stable iridium (Ir) and ruthenium (Ru) alloy based electrocatalysts for the acidic OER. The electrocatalysts were synthesized by a facile microwave-assisted sodium borohydride (MW-NaBH4) reduction method with 98 % reaction conversion efficiency. The ultrafine IrRu alloy nanoparticles have shown transfer of electron from Ru to Ir and d-band structure modification. Benefiting from the electron transfer between the active metals, the synthesized electrocatalysts have exhibited superior OER performance in acidic electrolyte. Among the combinations, the Ir-Ru (30:70) demonstrated mass activity as high as 481 A g−1 and requiring overpotential of 270 mV to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm−2, better performance compared to other synthesized and commercial electrocatalyst. Further, Ir-Ru (50:50) have exhibited the best OER performance of 425 A g−1 mass activity, double to that of commercial IrO2 and retained around 50 % of their initial current density (IrO2 remains only 31 %) in long-term AST tests. Based on the solution electrochemical performance such as low overpotential (310 mV vs. 330 for IrO2), high mass activity and long-term stability the Ir-Ru (50:50) alloy combination can be considered a promising electrocatalyst for PEMWE applications

A representation learning approach to feature drift detection in wireless networks

    Get PDF
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is foreseen to be a centerpiece in next generation wireless networks enabling ubiquitous communication as well as new services. However, in real deployment, feature distribution changes may degrade the performance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models and lead to undesired behaviors. To counter for undetected model degradation, we propose ALERTa method that can detect feature distribution changes and trigger model re-training that works well on two wireless network use cases: wireless fingerprinting and link anomaly detection. ALERT includes three components: representation learning, statistical testing and utility assessment. We rely on Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP) for designing the representation learning component, on Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) and Population Stability Index (PSI) tests for designing the statistical testing and a new function for utility assessment. We show the superiority of the proposed method against ten standard drift detection methods available in the literature on two wireless network use cases

This article analyses the polysemy of agent noun suffixes in six Slavic languages (Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Serbian, and Slovenian) by using the “metonymic” approach to word formation developed by Laura Janda (2011). It discusses the semantic features of verbs that agentive suffixes can be attached to, and it describes the semantic types represented by the derived nouns. It is demonstrated that agentive suffixes serve to form nouns that belong to a broad range of categories other than agent, and that the formation of these nouns can be analyzed through the lens of metonymy patterns

This paper presents the Corpus of Scientific Texts of Contemporary Slovenian, a specialized written corpus of Slovenian comprising 33,604,256 tokens from 884 scientific and expert texts, primarily in the fields of social sciences and the humanities, published mainly between 2000 and 2023. We focus on describing the text-type composition of the corpus, the technical procedures used in the preprocessing of corpus texts, corpus annotation, text encoding formats and corpus accessibility. We also discuss the rationale for constructing the corpus and its practical applications, aiming to outline the specific characteristics and advantages of the Corpus of Scientific Texts of Contemporary Slovenian in comparison with other Slovenian corpora that include specialized texts

Assessing the role of recycled tyre polymer fibres (RTPFs) on the key hydration processes governing autogenous shrinkage

    Get PDF
The incorporation of recycled tyre polymer fibres (RTPF) in cementitious composites provides an effective and sustainable approach in tyre waste management while offering potential benefits in mitigating early-age volume deformations. This study evaluates the influence of RTPFs, used in dry (RTPFd) and pre-wetted (RTPFw) states, on key hydration processes governing autogenous shrinkage in cement pastes with w/c of 0.4 and 0.22. The results show that RTPF reduced workability and altered the setting process due to the fibre–matrix mechanical interactions. Incorporation of RTPFs induced changes in water distribution at the fibre surface, delaying self-desiccation and maintaining higher internal relative humidity. While RTPFs offer a beneficial reduction in autogenous shrinkage by 12–41% in mixtures with w/c of 0.4 and by 15–34% in mixtures with w/c of 0.22, RTPFs also increased porosity, which contributed to a reduction in 28-day compressive strength of up to 16%. These findings highlight the dual effect of RTPF on early-age performance and provide insight into their potential application in sustainable cementitious composites
