Managing the estate: balancing the interests and careerism of the owners and their managers, and maintaining the delicate balance of social stability in the estate, with particular emphasis on various forms of solidarity
Study explores the intricate dynamics between landowners and their managers
in the Ribnica lordship, owned by count Guido Cobenzl. It emphasizes the
interplay of careerism, social prestige, and mechanisms of social stability,
particularly through the lens of solidarity and charitable practices.
The Ribnica lordship, owned by Guido Cobenzl, serves as a case study for
analyzing the multifaceted interactions between landowners and their managerial agents. Cobenzl, an aristocrat deeply embedded in the Viennese court
culture, navigated a complex social landscape that demanded both economic
viability and the maintenance of noble prestige. The ascension of his son, Filip
Cobenzl, to the position of Vice Chancellor intensified the imperative for social respectability, a value that was deeply ingrained in familial expectations.
The administration of the Ribnica estate was characterized by variable
degrees of oversight, with managers employing owner’s social capital and
networks to fulfill both their own ambitions and the objectives of the landowner. The shifting political and legal landscape of the late 18th century
further complicated land tenure and revenue generation, while at the same
time they may have increased the pressure on the serfs. The intersection of
these external factors necessitated adaptive strategies by the landed gentry to
preserve their socio-economic status. A key mechanism employed to sustain
the precarious balance of power in lordship was the cultivation of various forms of solidarity, manifesting in charitable acts and social engagements that
among other functions served dual purposes: addressing personal prestige
and ensuring socio-political stability.
Analysis of correspondence between Guido Cobenzel and his administrators Jožef Repešič and Anton Rudež and the correspondence between Filip
Cobenzl and Rudež, reveals the operationalisation of different strategies and
of social responsibility. These communications illustrate how the administrators, in their role as stewards of the estate, contributed to the consolidating
social influence and enhancing noble prestige within the estate.
In the 18th century, the Cobenzl family was exceptional among the nobility who had estates in what is now Slovenian territory, due to its social
prestige, the offices held by its representatives and the income it earned. It is
also notable for its very diverse forms of donation. While it was not a formal
requirement for high ranked nobility to substantiate their status through acts
of charity towards serfs, particularly by the end of the 18th century, in case
of Cobenzl family such philanthropic gestures were strategically employed.
The charitable engagements of the nobility were perceived as important
measure to the maintenance of social harmony and the reinforcement of the
paternalistic role of the landowner. This paternalism echoed the overarching
narrative established by absolutist governance, reflecting a broader strategy
of legitimizing authority and sustaining order within the feudal hierarchy
Pisava življenja
Knjiga predstavlja prvo samostojno znanstveno monografijo spod peresa slovenskega avtorja o poeziji enega izmed najpomembnejših in najkompleksnejših evropskih pesnikov dvajsetega stoletja. Predhodnost nagovora pesmi in naknadnost razlagalnega odgovarjanja tvorita dvojnostno gibanje, znotraj katerega se odigrava interpretativno mujenje ob »inter-(a)pelativnosti« umetniškega besedila. S samostojno monografsko obravnavo Celanovega pesništva skuša knjiga utreti pot novim spoznanjem znotraj slovenske literarne vede in hkrati opozoriti na nekatera temeljna filozofska vprašanja.
Cerium-containing hexamethyldisiloxane coatings for corrosion protection of a laser-based powder bed fusion fabricated AlSi10Mg0.3 alloy
This study investigates the formation and mechanism of action of advanced cerium-containing hexamethyldi siloxane (HMDSO) coatings to improve the corrosion resistance of AlSi10Mg0.3 alloy, fabricated by laser-based powder bed fusion (L-PBF). HMDSO coatings were deposited using an aerosol-assisted atmospheric pressure plasma deposition (APPD) process to protect the metal surface. This study investigated the effect of different cerium concentrations in the aerosol solution on the deposition process. The coatings were characterised using profilometry to determine coating thickness, while light optical mi croscopy was used for morphology analyses. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy provided detailed information about coating formation and microstructure, while corrosion behaviour was assessed through potentiodynamic polarisation (PDP) measurements in 0.1 M NaCl solution and six-weeks salt-spray tests (ASTM B117–23). Results showed that aerosol-assisted APPD enables the deposition of approximately 800 nm thick HMDSO coatings with incorporated CeO 2 nanoparticles. Corrosion measurements revealed reduced corrosion current density, indicating improved corrosion resistance. The presence of cerium in the coatings further enhanced this resistance, as the formed CeO₂ nanoparticles acted as diffusion barriers against the corrosive medium. Corrosion testing confirmed that the coating with 10 wt% cerium in the aerosol solution provided the most durable pro tection. Cerium-containing HMDSO coatings have demonstrated beneficial corrosion protection for L-PBF- fabricated AlSi10Mg0.3 with further possible improvements in studying active protectio

A study on different implementations of Neumann boundary conditions in the meshless RBF-FD method for the phase-field modelling of dendrite growth
This paper studies and assesses different Neumann boundary conditions (BC) implementations in the radial basis function generated finite difference (RBF-FD) method. We analyse four BC implementations by solving a phase-field model for single dendrite growth in supercooled pure melts. In the first BC implementation, the BC are satisfied when constructing interpolation problems in the local support domains near the boundary. In the second one, the BC are satisfied by solving an additional system of linear equations for the field values in the boundary nodes. In the third one, we add a layer of ghost nodes to the boundary nodesthe BC are satisfied by solving an additional system of linear equations for the field values in the ghost nodes. The fourth BC implementation uses the same node distribution as the third onesince we are dealing with the symmetric BC, we set the values in the ghost nodes by direct mirroring. We analyse the influence of the size of a local support domain and the type of node distribution (regular/scattered) on the accuracy. We show that using ghost nodes is recommended to consider Neumann BC in the RBF-FD method accurately when solving phase-field models for dendritic growth
