Lime-induced iron deficiency stimulates a stronger response in tolerant grapevine rootstocks compared to low iron availability
Iron (Fe) is abundant in soil, but its bioavailability can be limited by environmental factors, negatively impacting plant growth and productivity. While root mechanisms for enhancing Fe uptake are well-studied in some model plants, the responses of tolerant and susceptible grapevine rootstocks to low Fe availability remain poorly understood. This study examined the responses of two grapevine rootstocks, Fercal (tolerant) and 3309C (susceptible), to three Fe conditions: direct Fe deficiency (− Fe), induced Fe deficiency through the addition of bicarbonate (+Fe+BIC), and control (+Fe). Our main findings include: 1) more severe leaf symptoms in 3309C than in Fercal independent of the type of stress, 2) overall growth reduction due to direct Fe deficiency (− Fe), while under induced Fe deficiency (+Fe+BIC) Fercal strongly increased root biomass. This observation is supported by the increased expression of root-development related genes VviSAUR66 and VviZAT6, 3) enhanced organic acid contents under induced Fe deficiency (+Fe+BIC) and different organic acids profiles depending on applied stress and genotype, and 4) stronger modulation of gene expression in Fercal root tips, including enhanced expression of Fe mobilization and transport genes (VviOPT3, VviIREG3, VviZIF1). Overall, bicarbonateinduced Fe deficiency (+Fe+BIC) had greater negative effects than direct Fe deficiency (− Fe), with Fercal showing a higher adaptive capability to maintain Fe homeostasis
Bronchial bacterial colonization and the susceptibility of isolated bacteria in patients with lung malignancy
Background Postoperative pneumonia (POP) remains a leading cause of mortality following lung surgery. Recent studies have confirmed that the respiratory tract below the vocal cords is not sterile and often harbours potentially pathogenic microorganisms (PPMs), putting patients with lung malignancies at an increased risk for pulmonary infections. Patients and methods The study analysed 149 patients who underwent bronchoscopy for lung lesions suspected to be lung cancer. Protected specimen brush (PSB) samples were obtained during bronchoscopy prior to any specific treatment. Bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing were conducted on the isolated strains. Results Bacterial colonization was detected in 88.6% of patients, with 21.5% carrying PPMs. Notably, patients with type 2 diabetes exhibited a higher rate of PPM colonization compared to others. Antibiotic susceptibility testing showed no significant differences in efficacy between amoxicillin with clavulanic acid and first-generation cephalosporin in both colonized patients and those with PPMs. Importantly, no multidrug-resistant bacteria were identified. Conclusions Our findings indicate a slightly lower PPM colonization rate compared to previous studies, possibly due to the unique geographic characteristics of the study population. The absence of significant differences in bacterial susceptibility between the two tested antibiotics highlights the need for further research to refine perioperative infection management strategies

Prolegomena to agapeology
This paper is an attempt to reflect upon the hidden or mysterious logic of love as an ontological and panexperiential phenomenon. In our attempt, we are crossing the fields of philosophy, spirituality, and contemporary research in psi phenomena (also known as paranormal phenomena) and investigating some historical conditions of margins and disputes between the disciplines based on David Ray Griffin’s work, Parapsychology, Philosophy, and Spirituality. In the main part of this paper, we present the aesthetic theory of force by Christoph Menke and follow his rich analyses on the hidden, obscure layers of the soul. Based on these analyses, we present our own thesis on agapeology as being related both to psi phenomena and aesthetic phenomena. Throughout the history of religion and Western science, magical and miraculous events were too often relegated to the domain of faith or superstition and dismissed almost entirely. In the final parts of this paper, we aim to show that using the approaches of synchronicity (C.G. Jung) and ontology of the ground (F.W.J., Schelling) and acknowledging the phenomena known as quantum entanglement (C. Keller), we can postulate an underlying nexus, providing us with an access to the agapeistic effects of what we idiosyncratically call the phenomenon of dark love
