Po poteh vil in gradov
Publikacija predstavlja historične in umetnostnozgodovinske poudarke izbranih dvorcev in vil v zahodni Sloveniji, pri čemer se ne posveča zgolj najpomembnejšim arhitekturnim poudarkom, ampak poskuša zgodovino stavb in njihovih posameznikov razložiti v zgodovinskem kontekstu, v katerem so živeli. Izpostavlja posameznike, ki so s svojimi življenjskimi zgodbami in karierami pustili poseben pečat v svojem času, ustvarili zavidljive knjižne in umetniške zbirke in na svojih dvorcih gostili pomembne osebnosti. Gre namreč za okolje, ki je zaradi političnih sprememb na začetku 16. stoletja omogočilo predstavnikom številnih plemiških rodbin (Cobenzl, Lanthieri, Hofer, Rabatta, Thurn, Thurn-Valsassina, Herberstein, Edling, Dornberk, Coronini) hiter vzpon znotraj plemiške hierarhije zaradi diplomatskih in dvornih služb, od uspešnih diplomatov na cesarskem dvoru do spretnih rodbinskih in kariernih povezav, mnogi pa so svoj prestiž in ugled izkazovali tudi skozi podobe dvorcev, ki so predstavljeni v publikaciji. Ob izumrtju nekaj najpomembnejših novoveških rodbin so lastniki nekaterih dvorcev postali meščani in prav ti so spisali prav neverjetne znanstvene in karitativne zgodbe. Publikacija pomeni pregled obsežne obstoječe literature, pri določenih lokacijah (Žablje, Kozlov rob, Coronini, Lože, Rihemberk, dvorec Ravne pri Pivki, Šilentabor) pa so bile opravljene tudi nove raziskave

Decomposition of Whittaker’s gamma diversity
Accurate, standardized, and comparable methods for estimating biodiversity are crucial in ecology to properly assess and monitor the health of communities. Special cases of generalized entropy are commonly used to estimate alpha diversity. The related concept of generalized divergence can be used to estimate the beta diversity. Using cross entropy notion, we propose a modular decomposition of gamma diversity by using entropy and divergence functions. We prove that if alpha is Shannon entropy and beta is Kullback-Liebler divergence, the classical Whittaker’s gamma diversity is mathematically decomposed via our proposed local gamma index. To show the ecological application of this index and its generalization we compute the local gamma of several orders using a real large biological dataset. The index is discussed in detail for two limit cases, one where the contribution of rare species is the highest and one where richness and evenness are balanced. The index defines a gradient from communities that are dominated by a few common species toward samples shared among several uncommon ones. Our findings support divergence-based measures as practical estimators of beta diversity. Also, the framework here proposed, based on entropy, divergences and cross-entropies, allows us to compute the classic gamma diversity while providing components that are independent, comparable, self-reliant and pointwise distributed
Exploring module interactions in modular CMA-ES across problem classes
This study presents an in-depth analysis of module importance within the modular CMA-ES (modCMA-ES) algorithm using exploratory data analysis and large-scale benchmarking across the BBOB suite. Rather than introducing new algorithms, our contribution lies in uncovering how individual modules and their interactions influence optimization performance across diverse black-box problem classes. We evaluate 324 modCMA-ES variants across 24 problem classes using functional ANOVA (f-ANOVA) to quantify the variance in performance attributable to individual, pairwise, and triplet module interactions. Results reveal substantial variation in module importance across problem classes and highlight strong alignment between module interaction patterns and high-level landscape features, particularly multi-modality. Further, we demonstrate that configuring only the most important modules — identified via f-ANOVA — achieves performance comparable to or better than the single-best solver, especially in high-dimensional settings. This analysis, conducted at both low (5D) and high (30D) dimensions, offers actionable insights into module interactions within the mod-CMA-ES framework
