First Responder's Standard Operating Procedure for Employing Drones to Expedite Insurance Claims

    Get PDF
Drones offer cost-effective real-time data collection, payload delivery, and have accelerated various commercial, industrial, and recreational applications. They are commonly used for research, disease transmission monitoring, disaster site assessment, and biohazard monitoring. However, disaster victim insurance claims are hampered by insufficient cooperation between first responders, typically the Civil Defence Department, and the insurance industry. This paper proposes integrating drones into standard operating procedures for disaster victim identification by first responders. Improved collaboration between first responders and insurers can expedite insurance claims, benefiting both parties and disaster victims. Insights are drawn from feedback provided by Civil Defence Department Malaysia's first responders and experienced forensic experts in search and rescue operation

    Get PDF
This study addresses the escalating challenges posed by Malaysia's rapidly ageing population, with projections indicating a surge in the elderly demographic.  The geriatric giant, encompassing issues like immobility and memory impairment, has expanded to include frailty and sarcopenia.  Notably, the impact of these conditions on daily activities, notably the crucial spiritual practice of Salah (Islamic prayer) among elderly Muslims, is underexplored.  This research aims to bridge this gap by identifying and exploring the intricacies of performing Salah among frail elderly Muslims, shedding light on the often-neglected spiritual needs within the ageing population in Malaysia

Proposing Religiosity as a Moderating Variable to Determine Factors in Fraud Intention from the Fraud Triangle Theory Perspective

    Get PDF
The fraud scandals in Malaysia among public servants provide a chance to understand why fraudsters could be motivated to commit fraud. The purpose of the paper is to review and propose religiosity as a moderating variable in determining the influence of each element of the Fraud Triangle Theory (pressure, opportunity, and rationalisation) on fraud intention. This paper will provide three reasons religiosity is vital as a moderating variable for understanding fraud intention from various elements in the Fraud Triangle Theory

Developing Enterprise Risk Management Disclosure Index using Factor Analysis

This study aims to explore the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) disclosure by publicly listed firms in Malaysia. This study analyses a sample of 832 non-financial publicly listed firms in Malaysia between 2016-2019. This study used a more comprehensive index by embedding COSO-integrated ERM framework 2017 and ISO 31000. The data is analyzed using factor analysis to develop the ERM disclosure index. The results show that ERM disclosure consists of 4 main components: governance and culture, performance, objective setting, and reporting approach. Unlocking Second Chances: Scoping review of the parole system and the path to successful community reintegration in Malaysia

    Get PDF
This paper intends to explore the parole system and how the system can assist with the successful reintegration of parolees back to the societies. Being ex-convicts, they face several challenges, such as lack of employment opportunities and discrimination, which hinder successful parole reintegration. The parole system, however, can be used to implement reintegration strategies to create change. Despite the abundance of studies on how employers perceive ex-convicts, there needs to be more research on the success of their reintegration into the workforce and society. This paper employs scoping review methods by identifying the existing literature about the parole system in Malaysia and the successful reintegration strategies. This paper concludes that the Malaysian parole system has unique features through the strategies implemented toward the effective reintegration of parolees

A Review on Natural Extractives as Protective Agent against Decay on Wood and Bamboo Products

    Get PDF
This study examined plant extracts from leaves, bark, bole, roots, flowers, and fruits. Plant metabolites and derivatives inhibit brown, white, and soft rot, which decomposes wood and bamboo. The metabolites and derivatives found in plant extracts serve as a protective measure against the biodeterioration of wood and bamboo. The effectiveness of the plant depends on the toxicity of its extract. Plant extracts contain volatile compounds with antifungal properties. Mineral salts such as aluminium and copper sulphates, as well as MUF, impede the process of alcohol evaporation. Plant extract is a more effective and environmentally friendly treatment for bamboo and wood

Assessment of Properties of Semantan Bamboo Culm (Gigantochloa Scortechinii) at different Height Positions

    Get PDF
Bamboo is a fast-growing lignocellulosic material and is increasingly being used as an alternative material for producing renewable and consumer-friendly products. A study was conducted to determine the physical properties and drying behaviour of Semantan bamboo. The physical properties of Semantan bamboo varied from bottom to top. The average basic density ranged from 597 to 626 kg m-3 and volumetric shrinkage ranged from 13.5 to 15.8%. The solar-drying and air-drying times for the green bamboo culms to reach an average moisture content of approximately 12.76% to 12.98% were about 20 and 30 days, respectively
