Aedes Mosquito Surveillance using Ovitrap in Selected High-Risk Areas in Bau District, Sarawak

This study investigated the distribution of Aedes species in two high-risk areas in Bau District: Pasar Bau (public area) and Kampung Podam (household area), using ovitrap surveillance over five weeks. A total of 180 ovitraps were deployed indoors and outdoors across both sites. Kampung Podam recorded a higher Ovitrap Index (OI) and Positive House Index (PHI), indicating more favorable breeding conditions in household environments. Aedes albopictus was the dominant species at both sites, while Ae. aegypti was found in indoor areas in Pasar Bau. Kampung Podam’s Level 3 OI (>30%) highlights the need for prioritized household-based vector control efforts

Assessment of Knowledge and Attitude regarding Traditional Herbal Medicine among Diabetes Patients

The general population widely use herbal remedies for blood glucose control. This study examines diabetes patients' knowledge and attitudes towards traditional herbal medicine in Klang Valley. The survey had 391 responses: 58.8% female, 41.2% male. About 91% used herbs, mainly olive oil/leaves (42.2%), cinnamon (17.4%), and garlic (13.8%). Herbs were used primarily for supplementary benefits (47.3%) and affordability/accessibility (19.7%). Despite widespread use, 84.7% of patients admitted to using herbs with their diabetic medicines. Most participants have moderate knowledge and attitudes towards herbal therapy for diabetes. Diabetic Education for the public should include instruction on safe usage of herbal remedies

Assessing the Need for Counseling Services among Nursing Students in Northern Malaysia: A critical insight into a neglected area of nursing education

Nursing students in northern Malaysia experience considerable academic demands, emotional strain, and clinical duties, all of which impact their mental well-being and academic performance. This study explores their counseling needs, with an emphasis on self-leadership, communication skills, learning techniques, and coping strategies. By surveys and focus group discussions, major themes such as heavy workloads, clinical-related stress, and feelings of isolation emerged. Findings highlight shortcomings in existing counseling services, especially in stress management and resilience-building. The study proposes the implementation of a structured, accessible, and student-focused counseling framework designed to support nursing students in becoming resilient and well-prepared healthcare professionals

Integration of ADDIE and Health Belief Model on drug and substance abuse prevention educational module (DSPEM): Conceptual paper

Drug and substance consumption among high school students continues to represent a significant public health issue in Malaysia, especially within identified high-risk zones. This conceptual paper outlines a theoretically grounded framework for developing a school-based drug and substance prevention education module. Central to the framework is the implementation of the Health Belief Model (HBM), which addresses key determinants of behaviour (perceived susceptibility, benefits, severity, barriers, cues of action, and self-efficacy) in shaping preventive knowledge and practices. These elements are strategically mapped onto the ADDIE instructional design model to produce a structured and impactful intervention tailored for secondary school students

Compliance Level and Factors influencing Adherence to Standard Precautions Practices among Nurses

This study assessed compliance with Standard Precautions (SPs) among 155 nurses at a public hospital Perak, using a cross-sectional design and convenience sampling. The Compliance with Standard Precaution Scale (CSPS) and Factors Influencing Adherence to Standard Precautions Scale (FIASPS) were used. Results showed 59.4% were compliant, while 32.9% had suboptimal compliance. Job position and education significantly influenced adherence, with lower-ranking nurses and those with lower qualifications showing higher compliance. All five FIASPS categories positively impacted adherence. As the study relied on self-reported data, future research should include qualitative methods. Findings highlight the need for strategies to strengthen SP compliance

Impact of Supplementation Rich in CYP2E1 Enzyme and Decarboxylase Enzyme on improvement of Leukocyte Values

This study explores the effects of enzyme supplementation (rich in CYP2E1 and decarboxylase) on leukocyte levels among 27 home-based shoe industry workers exposed to benzene in Tambak Osowilangun, Surabaya. Using a quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, leukocyte counts were assessed before and after five days of supplementation. Results showed a significant improvement, with abnormal leukocyte levels dropping from 59% to 7%. Although limited by a small sample size and lack of a control group, the findings highlight the potential benefits of enzymatic intervention and underscore the need for health-based strategies to reduce occupational risks in informal sectors

“Motivated, but Vulnerable”: Exploring Malaysian youth participation in the gig economy

This study examines the demographic characteristics and motivations of Malaysian youth engaged in the gig economy. Drawing on a quantitative survey of 385 gig workers in Kuala Lumpur, findings show that most participants are men aged 19–30 with tertiary education, working primarily full-time in food delivery and logistics, and earning RM2001–4000 monthly. They are motivated by flexibility, autonomy, and low entry barriers, reinforced by technological change and shifting labor trends. Despite these drivers, they remain vulnerable to unstable income and limited protections. The study calls for comprehensive policies to safeguard gig workers and sustain this growing labor sector

Enhancing Adaptive Team Performance: Impact of team functional factors in teams operating in dynamic environments

Adaptive team performance is essential in high-pressure, unpredictable environments. This study investigates the impact of team coordination and team communication on adaptive team performance. Data were collected from 230 team members using structured questionnaires and analyzed through Partial Least Squares (PLS). Results reveal significant and positive relationships between coordination and communication, and adaptive team performance. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening team functional processes to enhance responsiveness and resilience. The study provides practical insights for enhancing team effectiveness in dynamic operational environments, particularly where rapid decision-making and flexibility are essential for success in unpredictable and challenging conditions

Work-Life Balance as a Reputation Signal: Shaping sustainable careers for Gen Z women

The contemporary professional landscape increasingly blurs the boundaries between work and personal life, particularly for emerging generations. This study examines the relationship between work-life balance (WLB) and personal reputation among Gen Z women in Malaysia’s service sector, with trust as a potential mediator. Drawing on signaling theory, WLB is framed as a high-quality signal shaping perceptions of reputation. Data from 148 professionals analyzed using PLS-SEM reveal a positive relationship, though trust did not mediate. The findings highlight WLB as essential for preparing Gen Z women as future leaders and as an innovative practice supporting workforce sustainability

Duplicating Remeng Mangunjaya Wayang Set to Conserve Wayang Beber of Wonosari, Yogyakarta

Wayang Beber is a type of wayang (traditional puppet show) inherited from the ancestors of the Indonesians that needs to be preserved. This research aimed to duplicate the four rolls of Wayang Beber Remeng Mangunjaya and its wooden storage box. The qualitative method was employed by describing the steps in the duplicating process, from data collection to the production stage. Creating these duplicates will support the conservation effort of the original artifacts. In the future, the duplicates created can be used to replace the originals in performances as a precaution against further damage risks
