Investigating the Architectural Motifs of Dowlatabad Garden in Yazd and Fathabad Garden in Kerman
The Persian garden with a mansion and the water obtained from the qanat with the planting of flowers is in the form of a square or a rectangle. Examples of this type of garden are Dowlatabad garden in Yazd, which refers to the Zandieh period and Fathabad garden of Kerman, which was built during the Qajar period. The present study, using a descriptive-analytic method, investigated the architectural motifs of Dowlatabad garden of Yazd and Fathabad in Kerman. This study seeks to find the differences and similarities between the architectural motifs of these two complexes. The findings of the research show that geometric patterns are used as the basic and main drawings in the architecture of Dowlatabad Garden in Yazd. Geometric, plant, animal, human and such combination designs have also been used in the architecture of the Fathabad garden of Kerman. Geometric motifs are the common architectural designs in the two garden complexes
Article Interaction of physical structure and spatial orientation in the reviviscence process of social and functional solidarity in urban neighborhoods
Territorial architecture observations reveal the spatial quality hidden in urban neighborhoods, influenced by traditional tissues and Iranian architectural patterns. This paper was to explain these factors from a new perspective. To this end, at the beginning, "Grounded Theory" was used as an emergent and efficient method in the process of qualitative research. Then, Saat Square in Yazd was selected as the case study to explain the stages of this research step-by-step. The data was analyzed with a focus on three stages of coding, axial coding and selective coding. The document analysis method was employed in the open coding process to categorize the concepts, discover the relations among the components and reveal dimensions in the axial and selective coding stages. Finally, based on Strauss and Corbin's ideas, the paradigmatic pattern was organized as follows: 1) Casual variables, 2) Contextual variables, 3) Mediating variables, 4) Axial phenomenon or category, 5) Strategies, and 6) Outcomes. Findings of this research suggested that the overview of physical structure and proper spatial orientation leads to detection of factors such as introversion, the possibility of behavioral variation in space (flexibility), the appearance of religious symbols, physical contradictions, physical proportions, spatial- mental imagination, sense of attachment, spatial stability, reminiscence and nostalgia of a space
The role of Ghiyas-uddin in Textile Industry during Safavid Era
During Safavid period due to the aid to Iranian weavers in cities such as Yazd, Isfahan, Kashan, Rasht, Mashhad, Qom and Tabriz was considered the most important and largest center for silk weaving. In this era Yazd was known for cloth weaving called as Dibaj which was woven at times with golden yarn. As there was high level of competition among countries, Ghiyas-uddin and his family had great opportunity to achieve beautiful design during Safavid period.
The aim of this research is to familiarize the textile art in Safavid period and the role of Ghiyas in flourishing this art. This study is based on descriptive-analytical method and data collection has been done through library studies
Presenting a Consciousness Empowerment Model through Interactions between Architecture and Thought Technology
The main objective of this study is to provide a consciousness empowerment model through interactions between architecture and technology of thought and also investigating the effectiveness of this overlap and communication in improving the current situation of society via designating an educational and social counseling complex, we were about to answer the question that weather interaction, deployment and implementation of concepts and technology of thought components and architecture can be effective or not. By acting and manifestation of these criteria and concepts in which they are a measure to address some of the problems and concerns of most people in the community and also contribute to the success of the community, arise here and can significantly make improvements. To this end, we described dimensions for measuring the performance of concepts and components, and accordingly hypotheses were proposed. Then, according to the results of the analysis, inferences about the relations studied in the research were carried out and conclusions were drawn about these relations and presented in two models and conceptual model
Graphic Design Values in Educational Gaming Cards
In history, games have always been there and companion of children and youth. Today, ancient traditional and education games have been forgotten and replaced by destructive computer games. Card games are among the traditional tools that can be used for educational purposes. This article seeks to introduce the process of producing and innovative product called CARTIN and answers to the question regarding the key characteristics of the graphic values of educational card games. The aim of this research is to present a suitable graphical approach for the development of the cards by considering the graphic fundamentals and standardization with respect to wide space and its popularity in the community. The study is practical and conducted with a descriptive-analytical method. The data collection is through library and field survey. The appearance, new design, innovative graphic and packaging materials are significant. Using warm, happy, lively, transparent and bright colors along with appropriate logotypes will be beneficial in organizational identity. Suitable size for the card has been 9 by 5.7 cm and 250 grams glossy cardboard material with a UV cover
Green Environmental Advertising to Reduce the Environmental Pollution
One of the problems that our communities face is the issue of environmental graphics in the cities, with respect to the pollution of environment is one of the concerns of the authorities. It is based on empirical-descriptive research. The graphic design of environmental billboards and bus stops are designed in a way that visually the design can create a sense of attraction for the audience. On the other hand, Titanium nanoparticles were used so that it can remove the colors and designs from the billboards after few days and to create new designs on them. Therefore, fabric base has been used to create the design, and the spectrophotometer was used to determine the amount of color evaporation. The results showed that the fabric used can eliminate the colors and designs created on them after some time; and prepare the base again for new advertisement with colors and designs. Therefore, the green environment advertisement was implemented
Algorithmic Comparison of "Shamsah" in Iranian Architecture, Carpet and Pottery
During various art periods of Iran, three art fields of pottery, architectural decorations and carpet weaving have had a significant contribution to the artistic trends of the Islamic period. The purpose of the present research was to explain and analyze the geometric patterns used in the Islamic artworks of pottery, architecture and carpet weaving and the influence of these three fields of art on each other. Other research objectives were also to examine the common features of above-mentioned fields of art in order to provide a schematic model based on their artistic nature. The main question of the present research were as follows: 1.What are the common features of Shamsah, in terms of geometric shape, in the three above-mentioned fields of art, given their different historical intervals and art periods? 2. How is it possible to achieve similar shapes through changing the geometrical parameters in the mathematical algorithm of these Shamsah? This research was conducted using a comparative-analytical approach. Data were collected using desk studies – due to the research literature – and field studies – because of observing and taking pictures of some decorations in three above-mentioned fields of art. Finally, computer simulation was used to do data analysis. The results of this study indicated that the principles of composition of geometric patterns in the three studied fields of art were based on the order, arrangement and organization of motifs to achieve a coherent format.
 
Spatial Hierarchy in Iranian Mosques (Case Study: Jame Mosque of Yazd)
The principle of hierarchy is one of the fundamental principles that dominate the universe. This principle is considered in the Muslims architecture and this point to the principle status in Islamic thought. In this research, we first explain the position of hierarchy in Islamic art in order to find out its importance and necessity clearly. Afterwards, study the various hierarchies as the space hierarchy through sample analysis of Iranian mosques (Jame mosque Yazd). The main research question is to understand how the hierarchy of space is understood in the field of architecture? And how was this meaning manifested in Iranian mosques architecture? The research process is based on descriptive-analytical techniques and the required data is collected through library and field studies. The research and inference process is based on a case study analysis, and the extraction of qualitative and quantitative data. The research results show that "proportions" and "shape and form" are the most important factors in creating the spatial hierarchy in the architecture of the Jame mosque in Yazd and to create a spiritual preparedness to enter the building and to understand the correct conduct from one space to another space in architecture
Designing Fabric Promotional Gift (Case Study: Sewing Machine Manufacturer)
The lack of supplies and complimentary products of factories is one of the problems that are being considered in today’s world. The souvenir set designs for sewing machine factories can be a better approach for advertisement. Environmental protection is the duty of every human being. The earth is the home of humans and all individuals must be careful in environmental protection and spend their energy and income on green environment for the community. In this context, special promotions to develop a cultural background among people gains importance. In this paper, an attempt has been made to use a fabric base to design accessories and promotional gifts (or complimentary gifts) for sewing machine factories, which can both semantically relate to the factories’ final product and be environmentally suitable. Accordingly, after conducting the examination, the designs related to the concept of factory products (e.g. form of yarn or needle) were made with reference to the research objectives, and initial sketches were drawn and printed on the cotton fabric via silk printing technique. The results revealed an improvement of concept transferred to the audience along with advertising and efficiency related to factory products. The designs were consistent with factory products and efforts were made to preserve the environment
Towards a Common Framework to Operate with: Mediating Experience Design and Architecture
This paper is concerned with one of the oldest of design disciplines: architecture, and one of the newest: Experience design. It is based on the assumption that as an emerging discipline Experience design may learn much from Architecture, while Architecture could make itself a new way out with the help of an ‘experience design’ intensive research agenda. It argues that, to mediate both disciplines, a common conceptual and theoretical framework is required. Towards this ultimate aim, first it reviews the essentials of the so-called experience design and related issues of architecture, with a special emphasis on their common epistemological roots, then it goes on to give a rough sketch of a theoretical and conceptual framework
