Editorial: Corona und die Folgen: Gewinner, Verlierer und Chancen für eine neue Gesellschaftspolitik
Full text linkSeit zwei Jahren bestimmt die COVID-19-Pandemie Politik und Gesellschaft. Oft wurde betont, sie wirke wie ein Brennglas – nicht nur im Pflegebereich und im Gesundheitswesen. Das Heft will eine Zwischenbilanz ziehen und kritische Perspektiven diskutieren. Wie wird es nach der Corona-Katastrophe weitergehen? Was bringt die mit der Pandemie einhergehende wirtschaftliche Krise mit sich, was etwa folgt aus der Zerrüttung grenzüberschreitender Wertschöpfungsketten für die transnationale Gewerkschaftsarbeit? Was bedeutet der alltagspolitische Diskurs um »Systemrelevanz« für die Perspektive einer neuen (sozial-ökologischen) Politik der Arbeit? Wie konnten Amazon & Co die Krise nutzen und ihre Marktmacht ausbauen? Wie übersetzten sich die globalen Ungleichheiten und Dynamiken auf die Impfstoffproduktion und -verteilung? Ist von einer dauerhaften »Rückkehr des Staates« auszugehen? Wenn ja, was bedeutet das konkret? Und schließlich geht es um die Frage, welche Rolle Wissenschaft für die Politik und ihre Durchsetzung spielt – gerade in den letzten beiden Jahren.For two years now, the COVID 19 pandemic has dominated politics and society. It has often been emphasized that it acts like a burning glass - not only in the nursing sector and in the health care system. This issue aims to take stock and discuss critical perspectives. What will happen after the Corona disaster? What does the economic crisis that accompanied the pandemic entail? What, for example, are the consequences of the disruption of cross-border value chains for transnational trade union work? What does the everyday political discourse around »systemic relevance« mean for the perspective of a new (socio-ecological) politics of labor? How could Amazon & Co take advantage of the crisis and expand their market power? How did global inequalities and dynamics translate to vaccine production and distribution? Can we assume a permanent "return of the state"? If so, what does that mean in concrete terms? And finally, what is the role of science in policy and its enforcement - especially in the last two years

No full textAnhand der Rede, die der russische Präsident Wladimir Putin am 24. Februars 2022 zur Begründung des zur selben Zeit von ihm befohlenen Einmarschs in die Ukraine gehalten hat, werden nicht nur Motive seines Handelns aufgezeigt, sondern auch die spezifischen Argumentationsmuster, mit denen er sich bemüht, vor allem gegenüber dem heimischen Publikum die Legitimität des Krieges gegen das ›Brudervolk‹ nachzuweisen. Dem monströsen Anlass angemessen nutzt er dabei alle rhetorischen Mittel der demagogischen Rede, die darin gipfelt, unter Berufung auf die russische Geschichte und auf »Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit« eine »besondere militärische Operation« zur »Entmilitarisierung und Entnazifizierung der Ukraine« anzukündigen.The article takes the speech delivered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, to justify the invasion of Ukraine he ordered at the same time, and shows not only the motives of his actions, but also the specific patterns of argumentation he uses to try to prove the legitimacy of the war against the ›brother nation‹, especially to his domestic audience. In keeping with the monstrous occasion, he uses all the rhetorical devices of the demagogic speech, which culminates in announcing a »special military operation« for the »demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine« by invoking Russian history and »justice and truth.
State Capitalism? Remarks on the Relationship between Capitalism and State from a Materialist State Theoretical Perspective
Full text linkInnerhalb der jüngeren Debatte um einen aufkommenden Staatskapitalismus als neuer Variante des Kapitalismus wird selbstkritisch darauf verwiesen, dass eine Verbindung zur materialistischen Staatstheorie fehlt. Davon ausgehend rekapituliert der Artikel einige Argumente aus der sogenannten Staatsableitungsdebatte, greift auch auf Nicos Poulantzas’ Unterscheidung zwischen Normal- und Ausnahmestaat zurück, um Fragen auszuloten, die für die empirische Forschung von Belang sein könnten.Within recent debates about an upcoming State Capitalism as a new variant of capitalism a missing link to materialist state theory is being perceived. The article tries to bridge this gap in recapitulating some arguments from the state derivation debate of the 1970s and Nicos Poulantzas’s distinction between normal and exceptional states that might also be relevant for empirical research
Care, Emotion and Affect: Reflections on Feminist-materialist Theory of the State and Democracy
Full text linkAktuelle Entwicklungen in westlichen Demokratien verlangen eine gesellschaftstheoretische Konzeptualisierung von Demokratie, nämlich des Zusammenhangs von Kapitalismus, Patriarchat, Staat und Demokratie. Die Arbeiten von Alex Demirovic leisteten für ein solch feministisch-materialistisches Theorieprojekt zentrale Übersetzungsarbeit. Der Artikel treibt nun diese feministisch-materialistischen Überlegungen zu Staat und Demokratie weiter, verknüpft sie mit aktuellen queer-feministischen Demokratietheorien, die Sorge ins Zentrum stellen, und entwickelt eine Theorie »affektiver Demokratie«. Das Affekt-Konzept soll die körperlich-materialistische Ergänzung von sozialen Verhältnissen bilden, aus denen Staat sowie demokratische Freiheitsgewinne entstehen.Current developments in Western democracies call for a social-theoretical conceptualization of democracy, namely of the interrelation of capitalism, patriarchy, state and democracy. The work of Alex Demirovic did key translation work for such a feminist-materialist theoretical project. This article pushes these feminist-materialist reflections on state and democracy further, linking them to current queer-feminist theories of democracy that place care at the center, and developing a theory of »affective democracy«. The concept of affect is meant to form the corporeal-materialist complement of social relations from which the state as well as democratic gains in freedom emerge

Nun hat die Europäische Union eine Richtlinie erlassen, die konkrete Kriterien für die Berechnung der nationalen Mindestlöhne aufstellt und darüber hinaus verschiedene Regelungen zur Stärkung der Tarifbindung und zum Schutz von Gewerkschaften beinhaltet. Vor dem Hintergrund der tiefen Legitimationskrise der EU und den geopolitischen Verschiebungen stellt die Mindestlohnrichtlinie eine elementare Kehrtwende in der EU-Arbeitspolitik dar, die sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten vor allem durch eine marktschaffende Stoßrichtung charakterisieren ließ.A European minimum wage has been a long-standing demand of the European Left. Now the European Union has issued a directive that sets concrete criteria for calculating national minimum wages and also includes various regulations to strengthen collective bargaining and protect trade unions. Against the backdrop of the EU’s deep crisis of legitimacy and geopolitical shifts, the Minimum Wage Directive represents an elementary U-turn in EU labour policy, which in recent decades has been characterised primarily by a market-creating thrust
The Plurality of Natural Relations: Capitalist and Non-Capitalist (Re)modes of Production in the Ecological Crisis
Full text linkDie ökologische Krise macht deutlich, dass die Verhältnisse zwischen Mensch und Natur wieder zu einem zentralen Gegenstand kritischer Sozialwissenschaft und die Pluralität der gesellschaftlichen Naturverhältnisse in den Blick genommen werden müssen. Der Beitrag versteht den Kapitalismus im Anschluss an Louis Althusser als »komplex strukturiertes Ganzes«, das auf der Gleichzeitigkeit verschiedener Produktionsweisen beruht. Dies beleuchtet verschiedene und teilweise konfligierende gesellschaftliche Naturverhältnisse innerhalb kapitalistisch dominierter Gesellschaften, welche nicht nur unterschiedliche Betroffenheiten von Umweltzerstörungen und Klimawandel erzeugen, sondern auch spezifische Konfliktdynamiken und emanzipatorische Potenziale in der ökologischen Krise.The ecological crisis makes it clear that the relations between humans and nature must once again become a central subject of critical social science. In doing so, it is important to consider the plurality of social relations with nature. Following Louis Althusser, the article understands capitalism as a »complexly structured whole« that is based on the simultaneity of different modes of production. This simultaneity leads to different and partly conflicting social relations with nature within capitalist societies that produce not only different ways of being affected by environmental destruction and climate change, but also specific conflicts and emancipatory potentials in the ecological crisis

Danach wird gezeigt, wie Alex Demirovic Aspekte von Poulantzas aufgegriffen und mit anderen staatstheoretischen Fragen verbunden hat. Der zentrale Bezugspunkt ist dabei die überarbeitete und erweiterte Ausgabe der Monografie von Demirovic’ Nicos Poulantzas (2007).The article discusses how Poulantzas’ analysis of law, state power, social classes and political strategy has developed. It then shows how Alex Demirovic has taken up aspects of Poulantzas and linked them to other questions of state theory. Its main reference point is the revised and expanded edition of Nicos Poulantzas (2007)
Connective Class Politics and Climate Justice: Challenges of Contemporary Left Politics
Full text linkVerbindende Klassenpolitik, Klimagerechtigkeit und eine neue Perspektive auf Wirtschaftsdemokratie sind zentrale Herausforderungen der Linken und der LINKEN. Das sind nicht nur programmatische und konzeptionelle Fragen: Auch (das Verständnis von) Politik selbst muss erneuert werden. Die Partei DIE LINKE muss Räume schaffen, in denen sich spaltende Alltagserfahrungen bearbeiten und Interessen bündeln lassen – und die Subalternen sich selbst organisieren und repräsentieren können. Kristallisationspunkt einer verbindenden Klassenpolitik ist ein sozial-ökologischer Systemwechsel: Wie lässt sich die Produktion von der Chaotik der Akkumulation auf ein demokratisch beschlossenes Niveau der Bedarfsbefriedigung umstellen? Alex Demirovics Arbeiten unter anderem zu Wirtschaftsdemokratie liefern dafür wichtige Impulse.Intersectional, connective (working) class politics, climate justice and a new perspective of economic democracy need to be at the center of renewed left and socialist politics. This is not only a programmatic issue for the Left Party, but party politics itself need to be renewed to provide space for people with different class experiences to come together and to organize for self-representation. The crystallization point of connective class politics is a socio-ecological system change: How can production be changed from the chaotic nature of accumulation to a democratically decided level of satisfaction of needs. Among his other writings Alex Demirovic’s work on economic democracy, among other things, provides important impulses for this goal

Full text linkDie PROKLA beschäftigt sich seit dem ersten Jahrzehnt ihres Bestehens mit Krisen der Linken. Die derzeitige Krise ist jedoch vielfältiger und tiefer, neue Probleme sind hinzugetreten, ohne dass alte verschwunden wären. Die aktuelle Ausgabe widmet sich deshalb nicht allein der Krise der Partei DIE LINKE, sondern verortet diese im breiteren Kontext einer insgesamt krisenhaften und geschwächten gesellschaftlichen Linken. Gleichzeitig sollte eine Krisenanalyse nicht nur darauf abzielen, Pessimismus zu verbreiten, sondern auch bestehende Möglichkeiten und produktive Momente aufzeigen, die aus dieser hinausführen. Das Heft kann somit als Suchbewegung gelesen werden, die sich darum bemüht, unterschiedliche Konfliktlinien zu vermitteln und so mögliche Auswege aus der Krise zu skizzieren.PROKLA has been dealing with crises on the left since the first decade of its existence. The current crisis, however, is more diverse and deeper; new problems have emerged without old ones disappearing. The current issue is therefore not solely dedicated to the crisis of DIE LINKE, but situates it in the broader context of an overall crisis-ridden and weakened social left. At the same time, a crisis analysis should not only aim at spreading pessimism, but also point out existing possibilities and productive moments that lead out of it. The issue can thus be read as a search movement that strives to mediate different lines of conflict and thus outline possible ways out of the crisis
Academic Precarity or: Neoliberal Subjectification in the University Field: Academics Between Resistance and Adaptation
Full text linkMit New Public Management verlagert sich der Diskurs in das universitäre Feld. Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird die These entfaltet, dass akademische Prekarität nutzbar gemacht wird. In diesem Zusammenhang wird mit einer Soziologie des individuellen Widerstands auf akademische Subjektivierung unter den Anrufungen einer neoliberalen Kultur des Wettbewerbs geblickt. Mit dieser Forschungsperspektive konnten aus neun Interviews mit Wissenschaftler*innen die Deutungsmuster von akademischer Prekarität als Selbstaktivierung und »heilsamer Selbstschutz«, als Balanceakt und Einzelkampf sowie als Freiheitsberaubung rekonstruiert werden.With New Public Management a management discourse is shifting into the university field. This article argues that academic precariousness is being harnessed. In this context, a sociology of individual resistance looks at academic subjectification under the invocations of a neoliberal culture of competition. With this research perspective, it was possible to reconstruct from nine interviews with academics the patterns of interpretation of interpretation of academic precariousness as self-activation and »salutary self-protection«, as balancing act and individual struggle, and as deprivation of freedom
