    BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Allyson Smeed is a Caucasian female born on July 11, 1980. She grew up in the East Side neighborhood of Payne-Phalen before moving to Cottage Grove at nine. Currently, she resides in Arizona. Smeed was raised by her two parents. Her father was a plumbing salesman, and her mother worked in retail, admissions for St. Joseph\u27s Hospital, and was the marketing director of a material company. She has two younger sisters. Smeed was raised Catholic. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Smeed begins her interview by stating that her family is tight-knit. Her grandparents were also heavily involved in her childhood. She mentions how her parents could buy a home, car, food for a family of five, and clothing for all the kids on one salary, but her parents struggled to maintain that as prices rose. Smeed briefly mentions her ADHD diagnosis and how it has impacted her spending habits, along with her parents\u27 mindset around money growing up. Next, she described the two neighborhoods she grew up in. Payne-Phalen was about spending time with friends outside and going to the library. The Cottage Grove neighborhood had a mix of playing inside and outside and many pool parties. Smeed recalls going to school and pretending not to know the answers to avoid being seen as the smart kid from a young age.     An Investigation into the Impact of Foot Orthotics on Flatfoot Deformity: A Review of Literature

    This review of literature focuses on foot orthotics (FO) for flatfoot deformity (pes planus) and their effects on sensory feedback, gait alterations, and plantar pressures. The study aims to explore the biomechanical influence and long-term effects on the several types of FO which include custom-made, textured, and prefabricated insoles. This review of literature aids in finding the advancements made in orthotics and highlights the importance for further research in comparing several types of FO and their prescriptions. Existing studies have investigated sensory feedback, plantar pressures, gait parameters, and ankle stability using various measurement systems. Unfortunately, there is a lack of research on the long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the different types of FO. The findings of this study will contribute to existing published literature by examining the benefits of different FO and providing insights for future clinical practices. This review emphasizes the necessity of FO comfort and design in FO interventions and highlights the limitations in current research, which include short study durations and small sample sizes. For future research, literature should address these limitations and explore the effectiveness of FO in dynamic athletic activities and specific targeted populations. In conclusion, FO shows promise in addressing pes planus complications, and further research is needed to add to the current knowledge so they can help enhance their usage in a clinical setting

    The purpose of this study was to assess the carriage rate of Staphylococcus aureus within the CSP community and gain scientific knowledge on how prevalent this common bacterium is. With the data collected, many forms of S. aureus proved to be prevalent, for example, Staphylococcal enterotoxin B, also known as SEB. This form of S. aureus is a well-known contributor to food poisoning. It was identified in the data collected that this toxin was more pervasive in healthcare workers than non-healthcare workers

    Dengue Fever or also known as breakbone fever is a viral infection that is spread from mosquitoes to people. The first isolation of Dengue Fever was in 1943 Japan and 1945 in Hawaii, the first two dengue viruses were isolated and named DENV1 and DENV2. There are 4 variations of Dengue, DENV 1-4. Each year there are about 50 million dengue infections and of those about 500,000 individuals are hospitalized with hemorrhagic dengue fever. It is estimated that 2.5 billion people are at risk of contracting dengue, Brazil is among the countries most affected by this terrible viral disease, with 13.6 million cases. Common symptoms of Dengue include Nausea/Vomiting, Rashes, Aches and Pains, and Thrombocytopenia. Some cases can become severe and cause hemorrhagic fever. Dengue occurs in hot climates, Temperature is an important determinant of biting rate, egg and immature mosquito development, development time of virus in the mosquito, and survival at all stages of the mosquito life cycle. Studies show that if climate change continues it can lead to high human exposure to dengue fever. It can affect Australia, Europe and North America. Dengue has expanded due to declining vector-control and increasing global trade and travel. Mosquitoes are vector-borne (living organisms) that transmit the disease, in this case Dengue via contact. Mosquitoes release viral particles covered in salivary glands in order to deliver pathogens to humans while they pass through the dermis of the skin.     The Rise of Candida auris: a Drug-Resistant Fatal Fungus

    Candida auris is a fungus that is creating a significant public health threat, causing severe healthcare associated infections. Commonly misidentified in laboratories, C. auris is extremely resistant to most antifungal medications. C. auris infections are most commonly identified through a culture of the blood or other bodily fluid, but can be misidentified for other Candida strains. The most reliable way to accurately identify C. auris is through matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (MALDI-TOF MS). One of the biggest challenges of managing C. auris is differentiating it quickly enough from other Candida species in order to treat it appropriately. C. auris’ resistance to antifungal medications makes it an urgent threat that can cause severe infections with high death rates. The death rate of patients with C. auris remains between 45-55%. Although this is concerning, the fungus is not generally a threat to healthy people. The fungus is the most dangerous to the immune systems of patients during long or frequent stays in healthcare facilities or to those patients with already weakened immune systems. The main finding in patients diagnosed with this deadly fungus is a bloodstream infection with symptoms such as a fever, chills, sweating, and low blood pressure. C. auris’ ability to live on surfaces for several weeks makes it that much more dangerous to hospital residents through contaminated surfaces and equipment

    This paper aimed to identify and highlight various factors that student-athletes experience while in high school, which could contribute to positive or negative experiences. The project highlighted how participation in sports for urban area youth can be viewed differently compared to the participants compared to those in suburban locations. Additionally, an unusual approach was shared in the methodology that would allow the student-athlete to speak about the different factors that got them interested in playing sports, the various influences that kept them interested, and how some experiences were different compared to others. This investigation will look into the disadvantages for high school student-athletes while participating in athletics, regardless of the neighborhoods they were brought up in. It may turn out that youth in low-income settings have more of a difficult time accessing opportunities related to athletic activities. Sport organizers can use the findings to explore different methods for how to get youth actively involved in athletic activities

    Orthotic and prosthetic interventions in veterinary medicine have been performed on a wide range of animal species, aiding in rehabilitation and healing for various pathologies. Contrary to popular belief, veterinary orthotics and prosthetics are not a recent development but have a long history. This study aimed to assess the frequency, cause, and nature of veterinary interventions that could have benefited from orthotic and prosthetic interventions across different species. Data were collected through a survey administered to veterinarians and veterinary orthotic and prosthetic professionals. The outcomes of the investigation contribute to enhancing the knowledge surrounding veterinary amputations, arthrodesis, and the use of orthotic and prosthetic interventions. The survey findings reveal valuable insights into the world of veterinary orthotics and prosthetics, highlighting the growing recognition of their potential benefits among veterinarians. The diverse range of interventions reported and the inclusion of various species underscore the versatility and applicability of orthotics and prosthetics in veterinary medicine. By addressing the recommendations from this study, future research can further advance the field of veterinary orthotics and prosthetics, expanding our understanding of their applications, improving treatment options, and ultimately enhancing the quality of life and mobility of animals in need

His mother worked as an office manager. He grew up Episcopalian. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Brynteson discusses fond memories of playing various sports in their large backyard, watching football games, and his mother\u27s gardening skills. Brynteson discusses how his father emphasized the importance of education. He reflects on his father’s own childhood, which included growing up impoverished and overcoming that through education. Brynteson discusses his upbringing in the Episcopal Church, his active involvement as an acolyte, and his continued connection to the church throughout childhood. Brynteson talks about how religion has remained an important part of his life and how spirituality informs his decisions. Brynteson goes deeper into the key values that were important to his family, including education, family time, and hard work. He touches on the importance of athletics in his family and talks about some other activities they did for leisure.     Professional Experience at Farmington High School

    For my Capstone project I chose to do a professional industry experience was at Farmington High School with Scott Meier, Head of Strength and Conditioning. The goals for this experience were to improve my skills in proper form identification, providing instructions, and program development. I spent two and a half months with Mr. Meier assisting him in his weight training classes and working directly with the students. For the research project component, I conducted a literature review and presented a PowerPoint presentation to five high school weightlifting classes on the importance of sleep and its effects on athletic performance. This experience gave me the opportunity to develop the skills I need to enter into the Exercise Science field with the confidence to become a Strength and Conditioning coach
