Law Enforcement\u27s Assistance to the Mental Health Community

    Get PDF
Mental health calls are an overwhelmingly consistent part of the law enforcement profession. With the lack of resources for the mental health community, law enforcement officers are becoming the contingency strategy. Relationships between the law enforcement and mental health communities are becoming imperative for every community. While developing these relationships, law enforcement officers can begin to develop response teams to handle mental health calls for service. Bringing on board clinical and non-clinical professionals from the mental health community can provide different intervention and therapy programs. Basic ethical principles, accepted in culture, include but are not limited to respect, honesty, and loyalty. Law enforcement officers can overcome a current issue plaguing communities and the profession by using the basic level of ethical principles and implementing them in a specialized team for mental health calls

The Effect of Vitamin C on HeLa Cell Proliferation

    Get PDF
In this study, we investigated the impact of vitamin C on cervical cancer cells at varying concentrations. After adding vitamin C reagent to plated HeLa cells, we performed cytotoxicity assays to measure cell viability. We hypothesized that higher concentrations of vitamin C would lead to lower cell viability, as vitamin C is predicted to cause cell death in cancer cells. Our results indicated that higher concentrations of vitamin C do not necessarily correlate with lower cell viability of cervical cancer cells

Turmeric and Resveratrol Effect on HeLa Cell Viability

    Get PDF
Cancer is a major health concern worldwide, and the development of effective treatments is a top priority in the scientific community. Turmeric and resveratrol are natural compounds derived from plants, and previous studies have shown promise in their anticancer properties. This study aims to investigate turmeric and resveratrol\u27s effectiveness in reducing the viability of human cervical cancer cells, specifically HeLa cells. We hypothesize that both turmeric and resveratrol will be more effective at reducing HeLa cell viability at increasing concentration

Impact of Coping Styles on Perceptions of Grief

    Get PDF
Abstract Human and pet bereavement tend to have contrasting views as pet loss still has yet to be acknowledged and has caused some pet owners to grieve in isolation. This is commonly called disenfranchised grief. Bereavement can, in turn, involve a variety of symptoms such as loneliness, hope, and in most cases prolonged grief disorder. Given the substantial impact of loss as well as potential differences in perceptions of grief for different types of losses, the current study sought out to examine how perceptions of grief are impacted by the type of loss and coping style. Participants viewed an online survey which included one of four versions of a vignette depicting someone dealing with either loss of a pet or human family member and engaging in either healthy or unhealthy coping. Participants were randomly assigned to view one of the four vignette versions and then answer questions about the magnitude of the person’s grief, appropriateness of the reaction to the loss, and perception of coping style. Results suggest that the type of loss did not have a statistically significant effect on perception of magnitude of grief. Data did not support the hypothesis that there would be significant differences in perception of grief as a function of type of loss. In contrast, participants were able to recognize healthy vs. unhealthy coping styles. To address future research, interviewing participants about their own loss and coping styles may allow for a more holistic examination of how coping styles impact perceptions of grief over time

The effect of Instagram fitness influencers on young adult women’s personal gym experiences

    No full text
Fitness accounts on Instagram have been shown to influence women in the gym. There is conflicting evidence showing that the influences are both negative, such as spreading misinformation and body image issues, and positive, such as increasing body appreciation. Data will be collected from young women (18-30 years old) using online surveys and in-person interviews in order to see how Instagram fitness influencer accounts affect their gym practices. It may be found that Instagram fitness influencer accounts have had a predominantly negative effect on young women, by lowering gym-users confidence, motivation, and body image levels; on the other hand, it may be found that the influencers may have had a predominantly positive effect on young women, by increasing these same levels. Influencers may use this information to choose to post content that may create a positive experience for their followers, while followers may use this information to make positive choices about which fitness accounts to follow

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the name, image, and likeness legislation that has been implemented into collegiate athletics. In addition, the impact on various gender and athletic levels of student-athletes will be analyzed regarding varying opportunities and compensation levels. The findings were conducted through a survey that was passed from athlete to athlete that allowed them to take the survey if they wished to participate. This study benefits student-athletes, institutions and the NCAA as the name, image, and likeness continues to be in effect

Compliance to Exercise Prescription in Bilateral Knee Osteoarthritis

    No full text
The incidence of osteoarthritis in adults, especially females, increases with age and is a type of joint condition that makes activities of daily living difficult due to pain severity. When compliant with exercise regime, osteoarthritis symptoms can be improved. However, despite the recognized benefits of exercise programs, female patients over the age of 45 continue to remain non-compliant with prescribed exercises. Non-compliance with exercise reduces the chances of a successful treatment outcome. The purpose of this research is to discover the compliance to exercise in female patients older than 45 years old with bilateral knee osteoarthritis. The methods will include two identical surveys for the sample of 20 people that qualify for the study; in which they will complete a baseline survey assessment, and post test survey after their prescribed exercise intervention. Thus, the surveys in this study will evaluate current levels of bilateral knee pain and disability, along with their quality of life. Subjects in the study will perform exercises prescribed by licensed healthcare providers in the aim of decreasing bilateral knee pain and increasing bilateral knee function in activities of daily living. The study anticipates that adherence to prescribed exercises from healthcare professionals will show an increase of quality of life and, in turn, decreases in bilateral knee pain and disability. The significance of the study is to see if more compliance with exercise results in greater quality of life and a decrease of bilateral knee pain in females older than 45 years of age living with bilateral knee osteoarthritis
