An Analysis of the College Choice Process From the Eyes of College Students
Get PDFFor many, the process of choosing a college marks the beginning of a period of emerging adolescence and adulthood. Although exciting, the college choice process can be daunting, as students are flooded with information to inform a choice that has ripples across multiple facets of their lives. The researchers chose to investigate what factors are most important to students during their college search process and how they impacted their ultimate choice. Moreover, the researchers honed in on how specific factors such as financial considerations and family influence impacted how they approached their decision. The participants of this study are mostly first-year students enrolled at a private, Lutheran-affiliated college in a major metropolitan area of the Midwestern United States. In a retrospective manner, the study examined what factors impact their choice the most and why. Ultimately, the study thoroughly unpacked the complexity of a college choice and how that experience impacts the student
The New Wave of Designer Drugs: A Review for Criminal Justice and Forensic Professionals
Get PDFIn recent decades, synthetic or designer drugs have continuously emerged like weeds. The manufacturers and distributors of synthetic substances are encouraged, at least in part, by the fuzzy legal status and low manufacturing cost of these drugs. Removing the threat of designer drugs has proven problematic for U.S. law enforcement because many of these designer drugs remain legal until the substance’s harm can be clearly established. To make matters worse, designer drugs are often not detected by the drug tests commonly utilized in criminal justice and forensic settings. Going forward, greater awareness of designer drugs by forensic, clinical, and law enforcement professionals and sophisticated research are necessary

Get PDFBIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: Chuck Doxey is a mixed Caucasian and Mexican male born on January 11, 2004. He was raised by his biological dad, stepdad, and biological mother. His biological father was a computer programmer, and his mother was a hairstylist. Doxey grew up in several neighborhoods within Minneapolis, such as Plymouth, Wayzata, Maple Plain, and North Minneapolis. He was raised Lutheran but participated in several Catholic practices. SUBJECTS DISCUSSED: Doxey begins the interview by discussing visiting his family in Mexico. He explains his family\u27s reaction to the difference between living in Minnesota and Mexico. Doxey reminisces on the pets he had growing up, such as his beloved cat and Australian shepherd coyote mix. He then explains his relationship with religion and how his Catholic mother baptized him in Mexico. Doxey fondly recalls attending Twins games with his biological father and taking the light train to the stadium. He mentions his grade 9 English teacher, Mrs. Balon-Peck, and how influential she was to the theater department of Orono High School. Leading Through a Trauma-Informed Lens

This paper examined research on what is necessary for leaders to lead and create a school culture that supports students through a trauma-informed lens. This research looked for findings from multiple quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies which examined the importance of effective leadership, the necessity of professional development for educators, and the implementation of trauma-informed practices that will lead to student success. The research revealed specific factors that lead to beneficial leadership outcomes along with interconnectedness of purposeful and ongoing professional development and implementation of trauma-informed practice due to the fact that response to student behaviors is not intuitive. Further research is needed in longitudinal studies on the impact of trauma-informed professional development, comparative study on certain trauma-informed practice across different grade levels, the impact of community partnership in trauma-informed education, and cost- effectiveness of trauma-informed practices.
