Litva a čeští králové (od posledních Přemyslovců ke Karlu IV.)

    No full text
Přemysl Otakar II was the first of the Czech Přemyslid kings to turn his attention to Lithuania. Incidentally, Heidenreich Bishop of Chelmno from the Order of the Teutonic Knights stayed at his court; in 1253 he crowned the Lithuanian duke Mindaugas. The king came to the aid of the Teutonic Knights against the Prussians at the turn of 1254/1255 and for the second time in 1267/1268, when the eventual Christianisation of Lithuania also played an important role in his ultimately unsuccessful plans to establish a capital in Olomouc. The knightly King John of Luxembourg marched three times (1329, 1336/1337, 1344/1345) against the Lithuanians together with the Order of the Teutonic Knights and forces from western Europe. Undoubtedly of interest is the letter of Charles IV to Grand Duke Algirdas dated 21 April 1358, when he addressed him as monarcha mundi with an offer of baptism

Litevská alternativa pro celou Rus? : východní politika litevských panovníků na konci středověku : postuláty a skutečnost

The aim of the article is to analyze the widely spread idea that the late medieval Grand Duchy of Lithuania could unite the whole Rus\u27 and pose an alternative to Moscow. It is shown that the Lithuanian rulers didn\u27t lay such claims; the attempts to detect them in their statements made in 1358 and (allegedly) in 1399 are nothing but misinterpretations. It is also shown that Algirdas, Jogaila and Vytautas had no real chances to subjugate the Duchy of Moscow and its allies and vassals, both as the result of their military expeditions (1368–1372, 1406–1408) and due to the matrimonial union (1383/84)

Castaneda\u27s Mesoamerican inspiration : the Tonal/Nagual, the cardinal points and the birth of contemporary Toltec spirituality

    Get PDF
On the basis of his most celebrated bestsellers, Carlos Castaneda has usually been analyzed as a precursor of the emerging pre-Harnerian Neo-Shamanism, one that was chiefly inspired by the cultures of the so-called Oasisamerica and the spirituality of the Great Plains. Nevertheless, in his transitional period (the 1970s and the early 1980s), Castaneda also explored ancient Mesoamerican symbolism. The fruit of this new inspiration mainly consists of three concepts – the Tonal/Nagual, the symbolism of the cardinal points, and the Toltec. The term "Nagual" as well as "Toltec" persisted long after Castaneda\u27s death and proved to be one of the most popular traits of the author\u27s doctrine. Such contemporary celebrity authors as Miguel Ruiz owe their idea of the Toltec to Castaneda

"Images in buildings and memories in hearts" : three methods for depicting Byzantine iconoclasm in Modern Greek narrative fiction

    Get PDF
This paper explores how Byzantine iconoclasm is depicted in the Modern Greek fiction of the past 150 years. It focuses mainly on the novels Pope Joan by E. Roidis and Sergios and Bakchos by M. Karagatsis and a crime fiction series by P. Agapitos, but it also takes into account short stories (A. Papadopoulou, Z. Papantoniou). It argues that the authors chose three types of approaches respectively: a romantic one, a satiric one, and one which combines historical fidelity with contemporary characters

This article deals with the literary and publishing activity of Dmitry Sverchkov, a member of the Executive Committee of the Petersburg Soviet of Workers\u27 Deputies, 1905. It is connected with his memory of the creation, activity and termination of the Soviet. Based on archival documents and the published works, it is shown that during the period after the revolutionary events of 1917, Sverchkov sought to keep the memory of the Soviet in works of prose and in cinema. The plots of his script "October Revolution 1905 and the first St. Peterburg\u27s Soviet of Workers\u27 Deputies" (1924) and his play "But Are Not Defeated!" (1931) are analyzed. The most important point is that the writer shows the people as participants of the revolutionary events in 1905. The article is also based on shorthand reports of Sverckov\u27s speeches at The Vseroskomdram\u27s Plenums.
