Communication papers of district council Boskovice and their transformations at the turn of the 19th and 20th century

    No full text
In this study, we attempt to classify, describe and name individual types of documents used by the district council in Boskovice in written contact with authorities, organizations and private persons in the years 1870–1928. The structure is based on a combination of rank and formality. We then scrutinize the documents across the entire page, and we focus on papers and personal papers used exclusively by the district governor as the head of the office. We also deal with what are formally the simplest communication documents – indorsements. In a separate chapter we discuss the modernization of communication papers at the end of 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The text is supplemented by examples of selected documents in a separate pictorial appendix

This article by political scientist and long-standing high-ranking diplomat Roland Marxer provides an insight into Liechtenstein-Czech relations seen through the eyes of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Principality of Liechtenstein. For Liechtenstein as a state, for the princely family, but also for individual Liechtenstein nationals who did not belong to the princely family, a difficult situation arose after the Second World War, largely as a result of the Beneš decrees. Liechtenstein repeatedly stated to Czechoslovakia that it considered the confiscation of Liechtenstein property as assets of persons of "German nationality", which took place in 1945, to be an unacceptable violation of international law. Especially since the beginning of the 1990s, numerous initiatives have been taken at both bilateral and multilateral level in order to achieve lasting recognition of the sovereignty of Liechtenstein by Czechoslovakia, or more exactly, by its two successor states. With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the associated changes in Eastern Europe, the European political landscape changed fundamentally, raising promising hopes for future cooperation in Europe. It must have seemed strange that three European states which were members of different European and international organizations and, as a result, were committed to cooperation that pursued the same goals, still did not have a resolution – in addition to the still unresolved issues of compensation – to mutual recognition and the establishment of diplomatic and consular relations. An agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations and future cooperation was signed on 8 September 2009. On 7 April 2010, a Memorandum on the Establishment of the Czech-Liechtenstein Commission of Historians was signed, followed by a visit by the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs to Vaduz

The presented polemical study has a methodological character and its aim is to find a relatively reliable, methodological approach for users of the term Jewish literature, especially in the Central European cultural milieu. Jewish themes, issues, the material-motivic level of a literary work appear to be decisive to the author in the explanation of the term. The concept of Jewish identity was then made the center of the Jewish theme, which is perceived on three interconnected, interrelated levels. The first is the auto-identity of the creator. The second level of the term is a group of phenomena referred to as Jewish hetero-identity. If the work is considered Jewish, it also becomes one of the markers of the observed verbal unit. The third aspect, literary the most important one, is the collective and individual identity of the subjects presented in the literary work, i.e. the thematized identity regardless of the author\u27s origin or Judaism recognized or attributed to him

This survey attempts to summarise English translations of poems written or collected by a Slovak poet Ján Kollár that appeared during one century both in Great Britain and in the United States, from Bowring\u27s seminal anthology in 1832 to Underwood\u27s selection of Slavic Poetry in 1931. They prove that Ján Kollár is the most frequently translated poet of both the Slovak National Revival and the history of Slovak poetry. In addition to collecting the most relevant sources (anthologies and surveys of literature), the paper analyses and evaluates particular translations, some in mutual comparison, to show methods and procedures of respective translators. Even though the poetry of Ján Kollár became a part of many anthologies, a separate English edition with the selection of his poems is still missing. Okrem zozbierania najrelevantnejších zdrojov (antológií a prehľadov litreratúry) štúdia analyzuje a hodnotí konkrétne preklady, niektoré vo vzájomnom porovnaní, a naznačuje metódy a postupy jednotlivých prekladateľov.

Prozaici Igor Newerly (1903–1987), Stanisław Dygat (1914–1978), Julian Kawalec (1916–2014) a Tadeusz Nowak (1930–1991) podstatnou měrou ovlivnili dějiny a vývoj polské prózy v poválečném období. Prozaická tvorba každého z nich je přitom odlišná, a to z hlediska tematiky i tvaru. Navíc někteří z těchto autorů poměrně často a významně zasahovali i do jiných slovesných oblastí – např. Julian Kawalec a Tadeusz Nowak byli pozoruhodnými básníky. Prose writers Igor Newerly (1903–1987), Stanisław Dygat (1914–1978), Julian Kawalec (1916–2014) and Tadeusz Nowak (1930–1991) significantly influenced the history and development of Polish prose in the post-war period. Each of them is different, both thematically and formally. In addition, some of them also covered other literary areas – Julian Kawalec and Tadeusz Nowak, for example, were remarkable poets. Each of them was to some extent influenced by socialist realism, but this influence was both partial and short-lived. In this material, we focus on the key texts of all four prose writers, on their possible specifics and position within the entire work of the author

The article analyzes the characters of the Germans in the works of contemporary Czech prose, focusing mainly on the novels of middle and younger writers: Radka Denemarková Money from Hitler (2006), The Expulsion of Gerta Schnirch (2009) by Kateřina Tučková and the novel The Germans (2012) by Jakuba Katalpa. as an attempt at a new perspective on the life of German-speaking people from the interwar period, through the expulsion and subsequent expulsion of Germans from Czechoslovakia, to problems with the confiscation of confiscated property after 1989.
