    The paper is a follow-up to the survey One Century of English Translations of Ján Kollár (1832–1931) and it aims to sum up and evaluate English book translations of Kollár since 1940. His appearance in five more anthologies from the 1940s to the 1970s together with previously analysed translations makes him the most frequently translated Slovak poet of all times into English although his working language was Czech. Some of the translations mentioned here are re-worked versions of previous translations (Selver), others are new (Ginsburg, French). From the point of view of versification, various methods to replace the original quantitative verse were adopted from accentual-syllabic or accentual substitution to the use of typical English form – blank verse.Štúdia nadväzuje na náš prehľad Storočie anglických prekladov Jána Kollára (1832–1931) a jej cieľom je zosumarizovať a zhodnotiť anglické knižné preklady Kollára od 40. rokov 20. storočia. Jeho účasť v ďalších piatich antológiách v rozmedzí 40. až 70. rokov vedno s už skôr analyzovanými prekladmi dokazuje, že je najprekladanejším slovenským básnikom do angličtiny všetkých čias napriek tomu, že jeho pracovným jazykom bola čeština. Niektoré preklady uvádzané v tejto štúdii sú prepracovanými verziami skorších prekladov (Selver), iné sú nové (Ginsburg, French). Z verzifikačného hľadiska prekladatelia využili rozličné spôsoby náhrady pôvodnej časomiery od substitúcie sylabotonickým či tonickým veršom až po uplatnenie typického anglického verša – blankversu

    Studie mapuje působení Artura Cronii (1896–1967) v meziválečném Československu v letech 1929–1936, kdy badatel jako smluvní profesor italské řeči a literatury přednášel na univerzitách v Bratislavě, Brně a zejména v Praze. Zároveň se pokouší na základě nezpracované archivní pozůstalosti charakterizovat rozsah jeho bohemistických a slavistických textů vzniklých v tomto období a také vymezit jeho metodologickou pozici v kontextu české školy literární komparatistiky. Ačkoli Cronia inklinoval k pozitivismu a kulturněhistorické metodě, v italsky psané monografii Petr Bezruč (1932) svůj literárněhistorický koncept obohatil o impulsy croceovského psychologizujícího přístupu. Zároveň na rozdíl od dobového diskursu odmítl ideologii čechoslovakismu a slovenské literatuře a jazyku přiznával autonomní existenci. Croniovým nejznámějším bohemistickým textem se stala monografie propojující vědecký a popularizační zřetel Čechy v dějinách italské kultury (1936) komentující přehled česko-italských kulturních a politických vztahů.The paper traces the activities undertaken by Arturo Cronia (1896–1967) in interwar Czechoslovakia between 1929 and 1936, when he lectured as a contractual professor of Italian language and literature at universities in Bratislava, Brno, and particularly in Prague. At the same time, the paper endeavours to characterise, with the help of hitherto unresearched inheritance archives, the extent of Cronia\u27s Czech and Slavonic works written in this period, along with defining his methodological standing within the Czech School of comparative literature. Although favourably inclined to positivism and cultural historical method, in his Italian monograph on Petr Bezruč (1932), Cronia enhanced his concept of literary history by Crocean impulses of psychologising approach. Along with it and contrarily to the contemporary discourse, he rejected the ideology of Czechoslovakism championing the autonomous existence of Slovak language and literature. Cronia\u27s best known work in Czech studies is the monograph Čechy v dějinách italské kultury (1936) [Bohemia in the History of Italian Culture] where he interconnected scholarly and popularising purposes through commentary on the survey of Czech-Italian cultural and political relations

    The demon as the mirror of truth : theology, moral instruction, and heresy in a Rhineland description of exorcism (ca. 1200)

    This article provides the first Czech translation, with introduction and notes, of the description of an exorcism ritual included in ms. 9 from the Abbey of St. Peter and Paul in Termonde (Dendermonde), well-known to scholars of Hildegard of Bingen, whom the text mentions as being present at the ritual. The article discusses the origin of the text, arguing for its later redaction than in the 1170s, the decade suggested by Laurence Moulinier-Brogi, yet still earlier than about 1230, the approximate year proposed by Uwe Brunn. We assume the very end of the 12th century to be the most probable date, while pointing out the need for further research, which should shed light on the gradual genesis of the source in the context of early hagiographic writings about Hildegard of Bingen. We further discuss some of the significant topics of the source, chiefly the demonization of heretical groups in the lower Rhineland as well as the condemnation of sorcery and superstitious beliefs. In particular, we point out the absence of any echoes of the Cathar ritual of consolamentum from passages mentioning the Cathar heresy. This leads us to the hypothesis that the text echoes specific heterodox doctrines and practices of late 12th-century lower Rhineland, with no direct connection to the dualist heterodox movement of Languedoc and Lombardy, although both milieus were labelled as cathari. Regarding the condemnation of sorcery and superstition, we briefly discuss the role of the mythical female figure called Holda in high medieval folklore. The second part of the article consists of the translation of the source. The translated description of an exorcism brings important testimony about the morally educative efforts and concerns of the Church administration in the lower Rhineland at the turn of the 13th century. Our translation is based on the edition by Laurence Moulinier-Brogi with some suggestions and corrections
