The philosophical assumptions and consequences of sortal identity
Full text linkPříspěvek hodlá zkoumat některé filozofické předpoklady a důsledky tzv. sortální identity. Téma sortálů si vysloužilo pozornost filozofů od 60. let především v souvislosti s knihou P. Geache Reference and Generality. Témata identity, její případné závislosti na určitých predikátech a zejména otázka kritérií identity se následně stala předmětem intenzivní filozofické debaty. V této souvislosti budou nastíněna různá pojetí sortálů. Filozofický význam sortálů spočívá především v otázce individuace a (re)identifikace objektů. Mezi sortálními teoretiky se především rozhořela debata, zda jsou s individui některé sortály spojeny nutně, tj. jestli platí, že pokud individuum spadá pod nějaký sortál, pak nemůže spadat pod jiný. Pozitivní odpověď zakládá klasický aristotelský esencialismus, k záporné odpovědi směřují antiesencialisté. V sortální logice se navíc poměrně často buduje hierarchie sortálů, kdy sortály mohou (příp. musí) být ve vztahu podřazenosti k jinému sortálu a lze dokonce uvažovat o případném nejvyšším sortálu jakožto sortálu, který již není podřízen žádnému jinému. Zde se přímo nabízí souvislost s aristotelskou hierarchií kategorií, analogie s touto naukou budou předmětem závěrečného srovnání.The paper intends to examine some philosophical assumptions and consequences of the so-called sortal identity. The topic of sortals earned the attention of philosophers in the 1960s, especially in connection with P. Geach\u27s book Reference and Generality. The topics of identity, its possible dependence on certain predicates and especially the question of identity criteria subsequently became the subject of an intense philosophical debate. In this context, different concepts of sortals will be outlined. The philosophical significance of sortals lies primarily in the question of individuation and (re)identification of objects. Among sortal theorists, a debate has erupted as to whether some sortals are necessarily connected with individuals, i.e. if it is true that if an individual falls under one sortal, then it cannot fall under another. The positive answer is based on classical Aristotelian essentialism, the negative answer is defended by anti-essentialists. In addition, a hierarchy of sortals is often built in sortal logic, where sortals can (or must) be in the relationship of subordination to another sortal and it is even possible to consider the possibility of the highest sortal as a sortal that is no longer subordinate to any other. Here a direct connection with the Aristotelian hierarchy of categories is offered. Analogies with this doctrine will be the subject of a final comparison

The travelogue Wanderings Across Slovakia as a symbol of Czech-Slovak reciprocity
Full text linkRudolf Pokorný, český podporovateľ česko-slovenskej vzájomnosti, uskutočnil cesty na Slovensko, ktoré zásadným spôsobom ovplyvnili jeho nasledujúci profesijný vývoj a literárnu tvorbu. Predložená štúdia na základe archívnych materiálov objasňuje pozadie realizovaných príprav, prispieva k poznaniu osobných kontaktov autora a jeho ďalších aktivít. Zároveň sa zameriava na vybrané aspekty zobrazenia česko-slovenskej vzájomnosti v cestopise Z potulek po Slovensku I a II. Text českému čitateľovi objasňoval napríklad slovenskú geografiu a folklór, sociálnu otázku alebo literárne pomery. Aj z pohľadu aktuálneho, aj historického. Slovenské prostredie autor zobrazil ako "iné", ale predsa stále blízke. Zachytené reakcie osobností a dobovej tlače sa stali dôležitým svedectvom o autorových aktivitách. To neskôr ovplyvnilo budovanie česko-slovenskej vzájomnosti, pretože "základný kameň" už existoval.Rudolf Pokorný, the Czech supporter of Czech-Slovak reciprocity in the 19th century, executed several trips to Slovakia. Those fundamentally influenced his subsequent professional development and literary work. The study clarifies the background of the implemented preparations, contributes to the knowledge of the author\u27s personal contacts and other activities. It also focuses on selected aspects of depicting Czech-Slovak reciprocity in the travel book Wanderings across Slovakia I and II (Z potulek po Slovensku). The text explain Slovak geography and folklore, the social question and literary conditions, specifically intended for the Czech readers (that was the author\u27s goal). The author portrayed the Slovak environment as "different", but still "same". The captured reactions of personalities and contemporary press became an important testimony to the author\u27s activities
