    Ein erfolgreicher Studienverlauf im Lehramt hängt nicht nur von fachlichen Kompetenzen, sondern auch von überfachlichen Eignungsmerkmalen ab. Diese Studie untersucht die prädiktive Bedeutung von Motivations-, Volitions- und Persönlichkeitsmerkmalen für den Studienerfolg im Lehramt. Auf Basis eines personenzentrierten Ansatzes werden Studierende anhand ihrer Motivations-, Volitions- und Persönlichkeitsmerkmale typisiert. Die Analysen zeigen, dass sich vier Studierendentypen unterscheiden lassen, die signifikant mit objektiven (Studienleistungen, Abschlussquoten) und subjektiven (Lebenszufriedenheit) Indikatoren des Studienerfolgs zusammenhängen. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen, dass überfachliche Merkmale einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Erklärung des Studienerfolgs leisten und wertvolle Ansatzpunkte für Eignungsdiagnostik, Studienberatung und Unterstützungsmaßnahmen in der Lehrerbildung bieten.notReviewedothe

    Persistent Outcomes Following Mild TBI

    Objectives: This paper aims to synthesize recent clinical and neurobiological findings on mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), with a focus on the interrelationships among neuroinflammation, cognitive dysfunction, emotional regulation, and sleep disturbances. It seeks to challenge the assumption of mTBI as a transient event by highlighting persistent neuropsychological and affective consequences across civilian, military, and pediatric populations, and to advocate for integrated frameworks that address both biological and psychological dimensions of recovery. Methods: A literature-based integrative synthesis was conducted, drawing from peer-reviewed empirical studies (2015–2025) on mTBI, including longitudinal, cross-sectional, and experimental investigations. Articles were selected based on relevance to post-injury cognitive, affective, neurobiological, and sleep outcomes, with inclusion criteria requiring human participants with documented mTBI, quantitative or qualitative data on relevant domains, and publication in indexed journals (PubMed, PsycINFO, or ScienceDirect) between 2006 and 2025. Exclusion criteria eliminated studies on moderate/severe TBI without mild-specific analysis, animal-only studies without translational data, or those lacking validated neuropsychological methods. Convergent trends were qualitatively compared across studies using multivariate regression, network analysis, and effect magnitude. Results: mTBI was consistently linked to persistent cognitive inefficiencies in attention, working memory, and executive function; elevated affective symptoms including depression, anxiety, and PTSD (with comorbidity rates up to 39% in military samples); sleep disturbances in 40–65% of cases; and sustained neuroinflammatory activity with mitochondrial dysfunction. Network analyses revealed PTSD as a central hub interconnecting cognitive, somatic, and sleep domains, with attention deficits and fatigue acting as bridge symptoms that maintain chronic dysfunction. Conclusion: These findings reconceptualize mTBI as a multidimensional, chronic condition driven by dynamic biological-psychological interactions, underscoring the need for interdisciplinary interventions targeting neuroinflammation, cognitive rehabilitation, emotional regulation, and sleep to improve long-term outcomes.notReviewedunknow

    Need Inventory of Sensation Seeking (NISS-6)

    A six-item short form of the Need Inventory of Sensation Seeking (NISS-6) was previously developed using the same data set used to standardize the long version. In the current study, we evaluated the NISS-6 in a sample that was representative of the German general population in 2024, comprising individuals between the ages of 16 and 96 years, along with scales for measuring anxiety and depression. The results showed that the NISS-6 is factorially valid and can be sufficiently well-differentiated from anxiety and depression. Furthermore, in line with expectations, we found small gender differences and large age differences. However, we found significantly lower internal consistencies for the overall scale and the subscales from the NISS-6 compared with the full 17-item version. In addition to the smaller number of items, the lower reliability can also be attributed to the intended heterogeneity in the item content.Dataset for: Zenger, M., Brähler, E., & Roth, M. (2025).     In much of social psychology, citizenship has been examined and understood in terms of how it proceeds from nationhood and how various versions of nationhood can be mobilised to exclude others. In this paper, we deviate from this line of scholarship to identify and examine practices by which constructions of citizenship are developed to inform nation-formation. We examine how versions of territory, national belonging, and history are intertwined in the construction of citizenship through a discursive and rhetorical examination of debates on Indian citizenship at two momentous occasions for India: the drafting of India’s constitution (1946-50) and the Citizen Amendment Act 2019. Analysis shows that citizenship policies were evaluated in terms of whether they realised the rights and entitlements of Hindus to the territory of India outside of the Indian nation-state. The findings then show that belonging to a territory is a salient resource in negotiating citizenship, and this can in turn work to support or undermine the idea of a nation-state.reviewedacceptedVersio

    When are good feelings good for the world? A mixed-methods analysis of targets of hope and issue engagement for climate change and COVID-19 [Author Accepted Manuscript]

    Hope may be a key precursor to prosocial engagement, yet hope’s effects on engagement could depend on what people feel hopeful about. In our work, U.S. adults (N = 1898) in mid-2020 wrote what made them hopeful and indicated behavioral intentions and policy support for COVID-19 and climate change. Open-ended responses suggested shared themes of (a) science and technology, (b) powerful actors, (c) lay action, (d) increasing awareness, (e) denial hope (hope grounded in perceiving a problem is overstated), and (f) no hope across both COVID-19 and climate change. Quantitative analyses revealed that those with topic-specific denial hope reported below-average engagement with that topic, while those hopeful about powerful actors, lay action, or increasing awareness for a topic generally reported above-average engagement with that topic. Patterns for science and technology were mixed: those hopeful about this target for COVID-19 were above-average in COVID-19 engagement, yet those hopeful about this target for climate change were below-average in climate behavioral intentions (though not policy support), partially supporting the moral hazard hypothesis (i.e., salient technology-driven solutions undermining other action).     Final report: Integration of elementary features in texture perception

    A long-standing problem in human vision research is how the brain decomposes a visual sce-ne into features and reintegrates them into unambiguous and stable object representations. When objects differ from the surround in several features, they can become more salient than expected from each individual feature. This is known as the "feature synergy" effect. In this project, we investigated the functional role and hypothetical source of feature synergy in the detection and discrimination of 2D texture shapes by (i) combining psychophysical data and modelling of early feature-selective processing, and (ii) recording EEG during simultaneous psychophysical tasks. For textures defined by local modulation of orientation and spatial fre-quency, we found strong summation of both features in detection and localisation tasks, sug-gesting integration by a common mechanism. For different texture modulations (local variability and local feature difference), the summation effect could be explained by local energy-based multiscale models, suggesting feature integration at early processing stages. Psychophysical experiments comparing texture target detection and shape discrimination with highly similar targets showed a decrease of cue summation in difficult shape discriminations compared to simpler ones, indicating only a small cue combination advantage for shape judgements after figure-ground segregation has settled. Psychophysical results thus support that feature syner-gy is limited to detection and discrimination at the figure-ground segregation threshold where more complex shape processing is not yet feasible. While psychophysical and modelling results clearly point to an early integration mechanism, EEG results revealed a strong reduction in P2 and P3 amplitude as a stable correlate of fea-ture synergy, observed in a cluster of 13 adjacent electrodes from left, central and right occipi-tal and central parietal-occipital lobes. Modulations of P2 and especially P3 amplitudes de-pended on the psychophysical task (detection vs. shape discrimination) and were not strongly related to perceptual saliency. These findings suggest that P2 and P3 markers of feature syn-ergy originate from regions involved in feature and shape processing under attentional control, reflecting reduced resource allocation when the target is redundantly defined by two features. Notably, no target/non-target modulation was observed in earlier waveforms than P2 for the lower and middle ranges of target-background feature differences used. Thus, our findings do not rule out the presence of earlier EEG correlates of feature synergy and saliency, particular-ly when stronger feature differences – capable of eliciting segregation-specific responses (tsVEPs, Bach and Meigen, 1992) – are employed.Funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – 471755627notReviewe
