    KLARpsy-Text: Hilft Lachen gegen Stress?

    No full text

The first part of this article retraces the evolution of the concept of aggression from the Freudian understanding of that primary impulse to the contemporary analytical authors, as well as to the Reichian and the Lowenian view of it. In a second part, it presents how today’s bioenergetic therapists conceptualize the aggressive impulse and how they work with it in their clinical practice, so that they can help their patients transform what can be a destructive force into a life force sustaining self-expression and self-actualization. Na segunda parte, mostra como terapeutas bioenergéticos atuais conceitualizam o impulso agressivo e como trabalham com este em sua prática clínica, de modo a auxiliar seus pacientes na transformação do que pode ser uma força destrutiva numa força que sustenta a auto-expressão e a autoatualizaçãoВ первой части этой статьи прослеживается эволюция концепции агрессии от фрейдистского понимания этого первичного импульса к современным аналитическим авторам, а также к взглядам на нее Райха и Лоуэна. peerReviewedpublishedVersio

Does Inference Feel Like Perception? Metacognitive Evaluation in Event Completion

    No full text
Humans often perceive events as continuous and complete even when some visual information is missing. This process, known as event completion, fills gaps in perception using contextual information, which can make it difficult to distinguish between what was actually perceived and what was inferred. Prior research has demonstrated that inferred content can be mistaken for real perception, yet it remains unclear whether individuals' confidence in their judgments reflect their reliability. We first re-analyzed the data of Papenmeier et al. (2019) by applying Bayesian methods to estimate metacognitive efficiency in the event completion paradigm. Following this, we conducted a pre-registered replication study in which participants viewed soccer video clips containing either causal or non-causal continuations of a critical moment. Participants then indicated whether they had seen the moment and provided confidence ratings for their judgments. Our findings replicated previous results showing that events which are causally implied but not directly seen are often experienced as if perceived. Crucially, in both the secondary analysis and the replication experiment, metacognitive efficiency did not differ significantly between the causal and non-causal condition. These results indicate that while perceptual experience and bridging inference merge during event perception, their ability to evaluate the correctness of their judgments remains unaffected. Overall, this research advances understanding of how people monitor and regulate their cognitive processes when perceiving dynamic events. This work was funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – 381713393 (Research Unit 2718: Modal and Amodal Cognition).notReviewedothe

Mitigating Negativity Bias in Science Funding: The Role of Two-Step Procedures and Group Decision-Making

    No full text
Negative potency—the tendency to give disproportionate weight to negative over positive information—poses a critical challenge in science funding, where decision-makers must evaluate uncertain and ambitious research ideas taking into account budget constraints. This study investigates the presence and mitigation of negative potency within a two-step evaluation process used by a national funding agency. Drawing on a unique dataset of research grant applications spanning 11 years, we examine how individual assessments by thematic experts (TEs) and subsequent group deliberations by panels shape funding outcomes. We find strong evidence of negative potency at the individual level: TEs are significantly more influenced by negative than by positive referee assessments, particularly in relation to project feasibility. However, this effect dissipates during the panel stage, where group deliberation and relative comparisons across a broader pool of proposals appear to neutralize the impact of initial negativity. These findings make two key contributions. First, they extend the literature on decision-making biases in science funding by identifying deliberation as mechanism for mitigating negativity. Second, they provide actionable insights for policy: designing evaluation systems that incorporate structured group processes may help reduce bias and promote more balanced, inclusive, and merit-based funding decisions. On September 24th, 2025 Prof. Dr. Hanna Hottenrott, ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research & Technical University of Munich spoke at the ZPID Colloquium.

The Bystander Effect in Human-Robot Interaction: How the Presence of Bystanders Inhibits Help for a Social Robot

    No full text
As humans and social robots increasingly coexist, a crucial question remains: Do established social heuristics (such as the bystander effect) govern human behavior toward robots? Through two pre-registered experiments (N = 401 and N = 616), we demonstrate that the presence of bystanders consistently inhibits helping behavior toward robots in human-robot interaction (HRI), mirroring classic findings in human-human interaction. In Experiment 1, we found that when bystanders were present, individuals were less likely to help a social robot in need than if they were alone. In Experiment 2, we used video stimuli with higher ecological validity and incorporated a human victim as a control group, generalizing this effect and revealing its robust stability. While the presence of bystanders generally inhibited helping intentions (regardless of whether the victim was human or robot), the strength of the bystander effect did not differ between human and robot victims. These findings provide the first empirical evidence that the bystander effect can be replicated in human-robot interaction (HRI). Our work contributes to the extension of the application boundaries of the bystander effect and the construction of a harmonious human-robot symbiotic society.notReviewedothe

Toward a Kashmiri cultural psychology: Integrating indigenous knowledge and mental health [Author Accepted Manuscript]

    No full text
This paper presents a critical theoretical intervention addressing epistemic imbalance in mental health research and practice related to Kashmir. It (a) develops conceptual frameworks elucidating indigenous healing rooted in Sufi mysticism, communal networks, and culturally specific coping strategies; (b) identifies and theorizes culturally derived constructs essential for contextually appropriate mental health infrastructures and interventions, emphasizing epistemic justice and locally situated knowledge; and (c) demonstrates culturally grounded interventions that foreground indigenous epistemologies on their own terms, addressing the limitations and potential dominance of Western clinical models. By centering Kashmiriyat, the Valley’s indigenous cultural ethos that encompasses communal solidarity, shrine-centered spiritual practices, and historically rooted coping strategies guiding everyday communal and spiritual life, this work reconceptualizes resilience as collective and historically situated. The proposed framework enriches global psychological theory and offers innovative models of culturally congruent and socially transformative interventions for conflict-affected societies.reviewedacceptedVersio
