Inter-Coder Agreement in the Identification of Dyadic Intervention Techniques in Intervention Descriptions Using the Compendium of Dyadic Intervention Techniques (v2.0)
Including romantic partners in interventions is a promising strategy to facilitate health behaviour change. There is a growing number of studies focusing on dyadic interventions. To synthesize information across studies and to systematically develop theory-informed interventions, a shared nomenclature to describe the components of dyadic interventions was developed: The compendium of dyadic intervention techniques (DITs). The aim of this study is to empirically establish how reliably the compendium of dyadic intervention techniques (v2.0) can be applied as a coding tool to identify dyadic intervention techniques in intervention descriptions.unknownothe

The role of math games for children’s early math learning: A systematic review [Author Accepted Manuscript]
Math learning in early childhood is critical for later success, as it is predictive of mathematical and academic achievement through adolescence. Therefore, developing engaging and effective methods for early math instruction are important. Math games are a common method for teaching math in a way that is motivating and engaging for young children and are often used in early childhood classrooms. However, research on what games are effective and who can benefit from playing them often focuses on single elements or contexts of gameplay, and there is little research summarizing the effects of math games on children’s learning. The current systematic review presents research on the impact of math games on preschool through third grade children’s math development, examining what game contexts, types, and content areas are effective for math learning, who can learn from games, and what features of math games effectively promote learning in early childhood. Themes in the literature include the impact of game design factors, math outcomes studied, and dosage of gameplay for learning through games. The review reveals that future research is needed to compare the effects of gameplay across contexts and to examine additional factors influencing children’s learning from games.Mary DePascale: Research supported by the National Science Foundation (grant number: 2222218).reviewedacceptedVersio
Effects of socioeconomic status on right-wing voting intentions: The mediating role of economic ideology, perceived threats, and national identity [Author Accepted Manuscript]
Low socioeconomic status (SES) individuals vote for left-wing parties on economic grounds and right-wing parties on cultural grounds, while high SES individuals exhibit the opposite pattern. Various psychological mechanisms may explain this pattern. Using data from 9 European countries (n = 8,750), we quantified the mediating role of economic system justification, economic and symbolic threats, anti-immigrant attitudes, and national identification on the relationship between two indicators of SES (education and income) and right-wing voting intentions. The negative link between education and right-wing voting was predominantly mediated by anti-immigrant attitudes and immigration-specific threat. In contrast, the positive link between subjective income and right-wing voting was predominantly mediated by economic system justification. These findings identify two psychological processes that may underlie the disparity between income-related and education-related effects on political preferences. This work was financially supported by the NORFACE Joint Research Programme on Democratic Governance in a Turbulent Age and co-funded by the State Research Agency in Spain and the European Commission through Horizon 2020 under grant agreement No 822166.reviewedacceptedVersio
Inside Out: Displaying mouse cursor trajectories enables the observation of one's own unfolding decision process
Individuals’ preferences and decisions are often guided by contextual cues. One such contextual cue is one’s own behavior. Here we investigate the impact of observing one’s own decision behavior on the decision-making process as it unfolds. We introduce a novel feature of mouse-tracking, whereby participants visualize their decision trajectory as a visible line on the computer screen while engaging in decision-making tasks. We found that participants who observed their decision trajectory in making preference-based choices exhibited a reduced conflict between the options as was indicated by a smaller maximal deviation (MD) for both familiar (Study 1) and novel (Study 2) stimuli. We discuss future directions and applications for understanding various psychological phenomena and processes.notReviewedothe

Understanding committed leftists in the United States right before the 2020 U.S. presidential election
In this paper, we sought to better understand people who identify politically as Leftists in the United States. We combined quantitative and qualitative methods to compare identification and beliefs of U.S. Leftists and Liberals. We recruited from online political spaces and Prolific (N = 621). Rather than identifying as more extreme Liberals, people recruited from Leftist spaces see Leftists as a distinct group, defined by their anti-capitalist ideology, and desire for radical societal change. This is part of a general moral opposition to the status quo – by committed Leftists but not convenience-sampled Liberals–which negatively predicted support for Joe Biden right before the 2020 election. In sum, committed Leftists see themselves as a distinct and meaningful political identity group that lies outside the liberal-conservative ideology spectrum.peerReviewedpublishedVersio
