    No full text
The PSYNDEX database contains descriptions of tests, rating scales, questionnaires, interview methods, observation methods, test apparatus, computer-assisted diagnosis measures, and other diagnostic instruments used in German-speaking countries, covering all areas of psychology and education, as well as related disciplines such as medicine, psychiatry, and business. It also contains descriptions of German-language adaptations of American and English tests, as well as tests in other languages. In addition to published tests, unpublished research instruments are also documented. The German-language Verzeichnis Testverfahren (Test Directory) provides test abbreviations, test names, test authors, year of publication, and record number of test description in the PSYNDEX database for 8,826 psychological and educational tests in use in the German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg). It is structured in five sections. Part 1 organizes tests according to the test categories used in the PSYNDEX database, part 2 lists test abbreviations alphabetically, part 3 lists test names alphabetically, part 4 lists tests by test author(s), part 5 lists test reviews by test abbreviations alphabetically. Data for: The Acquisition of Tonal Hierarchies in Western Music During School Years: A Re-analysis of 40 Years of Research

    No full text
Understanding the relationships between different pitches as a form of tonality is a key element of listening skills in Western tonal music. Tonal hierarchies (i.e., the genre-dependent differing prominence of tones) are reflected in internal representations of tonal hierarchies (IRTH) in long-term memory. Over the past 40 years, research on how students aged 6 to 20 acquire IRTH has yielded varied and sometimes contradictory conclusions about this process’ timeline and underlying mechanisms. This paper aims to synthesize the evidence and critically examine potential reasons for the heterogeneity in findings. To this end, three approaches were applied. First, a Bayesian meta-analysis of 60 effect sizes from 16 studies, reported in 13 articles, revealed a medium difference in IRTH sensitivity between younger and older participants (d = 0.57,95% CrI [0.37,0.77]). Second, a Bayesian network analysis indicated that tonal understanding continues to develop throughout school years into adulthood, challenging models suggesting that tonal development concludes by age 7 or 9. Third, a model comparison analysis based on cross-sectional data from a single study revealed a non-linear growth dynamic with a larger increase during adolescence as the best model solution to describe the relationship between sensitivity and age. We also examined the considerable heterogeneity observed within and between studies, particularly how task-specific features of the operationalizations might account for these differences. These findings contribute to the development of theoretical models about music-related skill acquisition and suggest directions for future research.unknow

Quantitative Evaluation einer positiv-psychologischen Intervention für Mitarbeitende im Öffentlichen Dienst im Hinblick auf das Gesundheitsverhalten, das Stresserleben, die Achtsamkeit und das Psychologische Kapital

    No full text

Associations of digital media use, in-person contact, and sexual activity

    No full text
Intense digital media use was suspected to disrupt relationships and therefore reduce sexual activity. This study explores associations between digital media use, sexual activity, and in-person contact. The cross-sectional study analyzed quasi-representative data from 2064 participants aged 18 to 69 years living in Austria. Participants reported digital media use per day, in-person contact with friends per week, frequency of sexual activity in the past year, number of sexual partners, and satisfaction with frequency of sexual activity. More intense digital media use was associated with less sex; this effect was small. Additionally, more in-person contact was associated with more sex and more sex partners. Among men who have a partner, higher digital media use was associated with too much sex. The same was true for single women. Further, high digital media use was associated with not enough sex in women irrespective of partnership. Nearly half of participants (45%) reported to have less sex than they wanted. Social support and social integration have frequently shown positive effects on well-being and are apparently also positively associated with more sex.Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung Niederösterreich (GFF) [Society for Research Promotion Lower Austria] and the provincial government of Lower Austria through the Life Science Calls (Project Nr. Workplace ethnography and transformative interventions at work: relevance and challenges for psychological research and practice

    No full text
This paper aims at exploring the complementarities and differences between ethnographic and clinical perspectives in fieldwork. For doing so, we build upon the work of Edgar Schein (1987) as well that of Schütz (1944) and Favret-Saada (1980). Our analysis is based on the comparison between a clinical intervention in a youth judicial protection service and a two-year ethnography in an inbound health call center. Both ethnography and clinical intervention rely on the active involvement of the researcher. While the ethnographer commits herself to document “naturally-occurring” situations, the interventionist focuses on the dialogical and relational dimensions of her action in the field in order to trigger and sustain reflexive and elaborative processes. Following this analysis, we argue that interventions in the field of work psychology would benefit from integrating an ethnographic perspective to workplace development, as situated, sociomaterial and embodied phenomenon.notReviewedothe

The Perfect Match: Investigating the Role of Individual Strategy Preferences in Self-Esteem Regulation

    No full text
Individuals employ different strategies to protect their self-esteem when confronted with a threat. Self-affirmation and self-protection are two prominent strategies discussed in the literature. Individuals appear to differ in their tendency and preference for using these strategies, indicating that personal differences significantly influence responses to self- esteem threats. This experimental study aims to examine whether individuals are better able to safeguard their self- esteem in response to a threat when they employ a preferred self-esteem regulation strategy rather than a strategy that does not align with their preference. 55 healthy German-speaking participants (18-50 years) will be recruited via SONA Systems, social media, and flyers. After providing demographic information, participants will complete the Spontaneous Self-Affirmation Measure, the Self- Enhancement Self-Protection Scale and the Six-Item State Self-Esteem Scale (SSES-6). Participants will then complete a deceptive verbal intelligence test and receive negative bogus feedback before reassessing self-esteem. They will then be randomly assigned to a self-affirmation or self-protection intervention. After the intervention, they will rate how well the task aligned with their usual approach to challenging situations. Finally, they will complete the SSES-6 again, followed by a Xenophobic Attitudes Questionnaire as a measure of defensiveness, before being debriefed.unknownothe

Press freedom negatively predicts corruption in schools — teacher unfairness and bullying victimization

    No full text
Press freedom prevents the private use of power by politicians. This study aims to demonstrate that press freedom limits the private use of power by teachers and students, specifically in the form of unfair treatment by teachers and bullying among students. Data from five public sources were used to extract the following variables: global score of press freedom, percentage of students who felt unfairly treated by teachers, percentage of students who experienced bullying victimization, gross domestic product, the Corruption Perceptions Index, and Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism index. Multiple regression analyses were conducted with press freedom as the independent variable, while unfair treatment by teachers and student bullying victimization were the dependent variables, with the remaining variables serving as controls. Press freedom was found to negatively predict both unfair treatment by teachers and student bullying victimization, and this effect remained significant even after accounting for the control variables. The present study was funded by KAKENHI (23K22365).notReviewedothe
