Overview and Research Needs to Achieve Improved Understanding of Earthquake Hazards Affecting the Western Sumatra Coast

    Get PDF
Natural hazards that are affecting humans are mostly related to geological processes, for example earthquake, volcanic eruption, flooding and landslide. The geological processes itself is a naturally occurring event, it is only become hazardous in the presence of humans as it may cause loss of life and properties. Understanding aspects of geological-related hazards of a region is important to reduce the danger they may pose. Indonesia is located within an active and complicated tectonic setting. Three major tectonic plates: Eurasia, Indo-Australia and Philippine are collide and interact in the vicinity of Indonesia. The mechanism of plate interaction in Indonesia is dominated by subduction, where one plate is subducted beneath the other. The subduction processes are commonly associated with formation of volcanoes as well as active deformation in the crust associated with earthquakes

Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Investment in Disaster Education Context

    Get PDF
Disaster Risk Reduction in Indonesia is an effort that must be done systematically, measurable to achieve national resilience to hydro-meteorological disaster that increases along with climate change. This article examines the forms of risk reduction referring to the global agenda that is Sustainable Development Goals and Sendai Framework Disaster Risk Reduction. This article is more specialized investment framework for disaster risk reduction by the government in reducing the impact of climate change and systematically reducing risk through education. Risk reduction conditions in urban and rural areas show a gap in knowledge context that is superior to urban. However, substantial risk due to climate change occur in rural areas concerned to food security. This lack of knowledge is due to the community, including students, who live in cities have a diverse selection of information and better presentation. Accessibility to this information related to IT infrastructure and socio-economic activities in urban areas of more intensive than in rural areas. Disaster education investments can be systematized through materials and media that support climate change learning according to the spatial context

Coal mining activities in Kutai Kartanegara Regency conducted in an open way. Number IUP announced by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, Ministry of Energy and the results reconciliation of Mineral Resources IUP with the 210 status Clean and Clear (C & C). The purpose of the study is to identify the characteristics and patterns of coal mining in Kutai Kartanegara Regency based landform units in order to see the distribution pattern of its spread. The method used the construct maps of landforms unit in Kutai Kartanegara Regency derived from Satellite Imagery Landsat 7 ETM + in 2012, A sheet of study area Indonesia Map, Geological Map, Soil type and field surveys Map using ArcGIS 9.3 facilities. The results showed that the characteristic of the coal mining in Kutai Kartanegara Regency is implemented by way of an open mining. With the status of the production details 151 IUP (72 %) and the exploration 59 IUP (28 %). Condition of the land of post coal mining in some areas showed low implementation of the rules set by the government for land reclamation, thus causing in high environment such as erosion, flooding and landslides. Unit landform with majority in the coal mining activities is wavy tectonic cluster. The cause of the pattern of coal mining activity tend to cause factors of the position / location of relatively shallow or have undergone a process of outcrops to the surface between 0-30 meters, easy access from the mine to the port. The research result recommendations is conducted anticipation program from the dangers of impact that occurs as erosion and sedimentation, water quality and soil (land potential), The licensing selection strictly refer to the legislation and in depth learning to identify a variety of potential post-mining land to be developed on the post-mining unit of the shape according to the character of the lan

Adiwiyata program was formed to form and develop the environmental caring character of school, especially learners, but the phenomenon of research in schools that are the subject of research, still violations committed by some learners that indicate the environmental caring character of learners at Adiwiyata school in Pandeglang is still low. The purpose of this study is to calculate the contribution to the formation of environmental-care characters cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of students in SMA Adiwiyata Pandeglang Banten. The method in this research used quantitative descriptive. The data collection used observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation, while data analysis techniques using correlation coefficient test, regression test and coefficient of determination. The school, which is the subject of this research were two Adiwiyata schools and the other one was non-Adiwiyata in Pandeglang Banten with the sample was 325 respondents. The results of the research showed that the implementation of Adiwiyata program has a significant contribution to formation of character environmentally cognitive, affective and psychomotor learners, but its contribution is not balanced on the three aspects. Carbon Stocks Estimate of Padang City West Sumatra Province

    Get PDF
The most fundamental problem in this research is land cover change into settlement area and open land that occurred are high in Padang City, so the forest has reduced. If cover land of forest reduced, while population, industry and transportation growth increase the environmental gap due to plants absorbing emissions released by human activity is reduced. As a result the surface temperature becomes warmer. If this is left continuously, the hydrometeorology disaster will threaten Padang City. In general, this research aims to determine how the phenomenon of climate change that occurred in Padang City based on the estimation of carbon stocks in accordance with land cover. Analysis of the occurrence of climate change can be known based on the tendency of temperature data and rainfall data contained in Padang City. In addition, climate change can be analyzed based on changes in land cover and carbon stocks. Based on the result, it is known that Padang City since 1989 experienced considerable changes, especially changes from forest to settlements and mixed land. That land cover changes, indirectly cause the carbon stocks of Padang City also decreased. This is because other land cover rather than forests have low carbon stocks, especially settlements and open land that do not have carbon stock. Carbon stocks reduced, it is assumed to cause increasing air temperature and reducing rainfall

The purpose of this research is to know the change of mangrove land at Belitung district by using remote sensing for mangrove land changes in 2001 and 2016 (multitemporal). Radiometric correction on this research aims to improve the quality of the image and at the same time improve the pixel values that do not correspond to the actual spectral values, dgunakn image is Landsat 7 Landsat 8 2001 and 2016. The composite image is used on the research of composite RGB bands 4, 5, and 3 for Landsat 7 as for Landsat 8 used composite RGB 5, 6 and 4. This research uses software ENVI 4.5 and Arcgis 10.1. The result of the interpretation of the map changes in the region. Mangrove forest area in 2001 was 10,032.75 Ha and 9,779.4 Ha found 2016. So, the shrinkage of mangrove land that is the lowliest coastal Belitung district is 253.35 ha

The purpose of this research was to analyze and formulate alternative form of coastal erosion mitigation by using AHP analysis (Analythical Hierarchy Process) and formulate empowerment strategies of coastal erosion response community in Jerowaru district of East Lombok Regency. This research was descriptive qualitative research which used observation, interview and documentation as intruments of data collection. Two types of data were used, namely primary data and secondary data. Data was analyzed by using AHP and SWOT. The result of this research found that there were 6 criteria of coastal erosion mitigation. They are: community empowerment (0,444), Mangrove trees Cultivation (0,234), settlement relocation (0,153), Environment control (0,85), Grid stone (0,53), government’s role (0,31). The strategy used to prevent the erosion was Grid stone installation in coastal erosion mitigation, a routine public counseling, improving community awareness of coastal area preservation, the relocation of community settlement which was affected by coastal erosion and preventing the development of settlements in the areas prone to coastal Erosion
