Analysis of Drought Disaster Potential Based on Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (Case Study: North Central Timor Regency)

Drought is a natural phenomenon that is a complex and difficult to predict and has the potential to be detrimental to human life, so mitigation efforts need to be made to reduce its impact. To provide information related to drought in North Central Timor District, it is necessary to make efforts to map areas that are vulnerable to drought. Mapping drought potential can be done by utilizing remote sensing data and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The aim of this study is to determine the distribution of drought potential in TTU Regency using remote sensing and GIS. The method used is the scoring and overlay method using ArcMap by paying attention to several parameters, such as rainfall, slope, type of soil, and land use. The results of the analysis show that the level of drought in the TTU regency is in the medium to high category, so it is necessary to mitigate drought efforts.  Overlay analysis identified low drought class reaching 1,8 km2 or 0,1%, medium drought with an area of 1696,1 km2 or 65,4%, high drought class covering an area of 894,9 km2 or 35%, and very high drought class covering 0,08 km2 or 0,01% of TTU Regency area

Assessing the Capacity of Flood Prone Households in West Pasaman to Reduce Flood Risk

West Pasaman is a regency in Indonesia that has a high risk of flooding. Flood risk reduction through enhancing household capacity must be pursued because individuals or households are the first to be directly affected by floods. This research aims to determine the household capacity level in flood risk reduction and the associated factors. Data about household knowledge, emergency preparedness, access information, mitigation measures, livelihood diversification, and social networks is collected by a survey of the households in Nagari Aia Gadang Barat.  The result shows that the capacity of households in Nagari Aia Gadang varied to low, medium, and high levels, with the most significant proportion being the medium level, namely 65%. Household capacity is positively associated with the head household's education level and total income

Use of Planetscope Imagery to Identify Galodo in Sungai Jambu, Pariangan, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra

This study aims to identify and analyze the impact of the Galodo disaster in Sungai Jambu (Pariangan, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra) using PlanetScope satellite imagery. Galodo disasters, which are flash floods that transport materials such as soil and rocks, often occur in mountainous areas and cause significant damage to the environment and infrastructure. Located on the slopes of Mount Marapi, Sungai Jambu is one of the areas prone to galodo due to its geomorphology and high rainfall. The research methodology involved using PlanetScope images before and after the Galodo accident on May 13, 2024. Data processing included radiometric and geometric correction as well as image composite analysis to detect changes in land cover and river flow. The 3-2-1 and 4-3-2 composite images were used to detect changes in vegetation, stream conditions and degraded open land. The results showed significant changes in land cover and river flow due to the Galodo disaster, characterized by increased water turbidity and damaged vegetation. This study confirms the effectiveness of PlanetScope images in monitoring and identifying the impacts of the Galodo disaster. These findings provide important information for post-disaster mitigation and recovery planning and help identify areas that require restoration. Thus, the use of PlanetScope images can improve our understanding of environmental damage caused by disasters and support more effective and sustainable mitigation measure

Data collection was used questionnaires and an essay test. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were performed for data analysis. The statistical test carried out was a t-test. The research findings showed that the e-module was feasible to apply in lectures and significantly improved students’ critical thinking

Utilization of Geographic Information Systems in Environmental Vulnerability Mapping to Tsunami Disaster in West Aceh District

Indonesia is a region that is vulnerable to earthquake and tsunami disasters. As a mitigation effort a disaster vulnerability map is needed. This study aims to produce a tsunami vulnerability map of the environment by implementing a geographic information system (GIS) in Aceh Barat District. Tools and materials used are: 1) computer device assisted by ArcGis Software version 10.4.1. 2) Parameter map (Land use map in West Aceh District, Map of river border distance, Beach border distance, Map of Aceh Barat District elevation map, West Aceh District slope map). Data were analyzed by scoring and weighting with overlay techniques. The results showed that the area with a very high vulnerability category was at the mouth of the river and the area of the Woyla River, Bubon River, and Meureubo River with an area of up to 10 . Areas with a very low vulnerability category are in the Sungai Mas and Pante Ceureumen Districts with an area of 1611.. Suggestions in this research are the need for more specific mapping, such as mapping of social, economic, and physical vulnerability, so that the impact of the tsunami disaster from various vulnerability factors can be minimize
