Pengujian Kekuatan Retak Komposit Arang Tempurung yang Dihaluskan Sebagai Bahan Baku Penganti Kayu untuk Kapal Nelayan

    Get PDF
Coconut shell charcoal is a by-product waste from coconut farming which is very abundant and its use has not been optimally applied other than being limited to burning it for boiler energy as a heater and other parts of it being used as a fuel source for cooking. As raw materials for making wooden boats for fishermen in Indonesia become increasingly scarce, efforts are needed to find replacement materials in the supply process. However, another very urgent factor is that it is absolutely necessary to develop environmentally friendly composites to replace synthetic composites which are difficult to decompose. However, composite materials made from natural fibers still have many weaknesses, including low mechanical strength, therefore applications in the engineering field are still under study and development. Some of the weaknesses of natural fiber composite materials, which need to be studied, include their brittle nature and easy cracking. One of the things carried out in this research is a synthetic material derived from unsaturated polyester reinforced with natural fibers from coconut shell charcoal particles which is used to reduce the percentage of synthetic material from polyester which can form a composite that is easily decomposed. From the research, the mechanical strength obtained with a polyester mixture matrix reinforced with coconut shell charcoal fibers obtained crack resistance values with a large critical stress intensity factor based on ASTM D 5405 by varying the composition of the shell charcoal fiber mixture from: 0%, 10%, 20%, to 30%. From the test results, the largest critical stress intensity factor at K_1c= 1.624 (MPa/m1/2) occurred in 20% coconut shell charcoal fiber

How have the Challenges Faced by Gauteng-based Township Small Business Evolved since Covid-19?

    Get PDF
This study examines the evolving challenges and potential solutions for township-based small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in Gauteng, South Africa which are crucial in mitigating poverty and unemployment. Historically, SMMEs in townships were overlooked by policymakers, limiting their growth and sustainability. Through semi-structured interviews with 18 SMME owners, this study reveals that while some challenges remain consistent, they have shifted in nature. Before Covid-19, internal factors such as financial management, business operations, and human resources were predominant obstacles. Post-pandemic, however, external factors such as market survival, consumer buying power, and heightened unemployment emerged as significant threats. The pandemic left SMMEs in survival mode, with many unable to attract customers due to the declining purchasing power of their communities. Notably, mental health issues among business owners became a pressing concern, highlighting a need for psychological support. The study identifies job creation, skill development, and accessible government funding as essential solutions for fostering SMME resilience. Addressing these evolving challenges with targeted support could enhance the stability and growth of township SMMEs, promoting economic empowerment in the long term. The findings underscore the importance of adapting policies to the shifting needs of SMMEs in a post-pandemic landscape

ABSTRACT This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between workload and job stress among Customer Service employees in early adulthood at PT. SDN. The study involved 35 Customer Service employees in early adulthood at PT. SDN as subjects. Data collection was conducted using a workload scale based on Ambar (2003) and a job stress scale based on Robbins & Judge (2008) with a product-moment correlation analysis. The results showed a very significant positive relationship between workload and job stress, with a correlation coefficient (r) = 0.676 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.01). Additional findings revealed that the task aspect of the workload variable contributed 15.5%, the support & facilities aspect contributed 19.9%, and the time & conditions aspect contributed 10.13%, resulting in a total effective contribution of 45.5%.
