Exploration of inbound tourism videos of Japan Heritage : Does an Iwami kagura video with a story influence the viewers’ willingness to visit and watch performing arts?

論文By recognizing stories related to sightseeing spots as “Japan Heritage,” the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan aims to revitalize local communities which experience economic recession due to the aging population. This project assumes that stories have the power to stimulate inbound tourism. This study tested whether a video with a story effectively promotes inbound tourism. The definition of a story meant by the Agency was discussed and videos of Iwami kagura were created to test the assumption. Using the data from the focus groups of 130 non-Japanese participants, the author found the story-based videos effectively increased the viewers’ willingness to watch Iwami kagura. The author concluded that inbound tourism videos with detailed explanations of the historical background of sightseeing spots could stimulate motivation for visiting foreign destinations.departmental bulletin pape

QIAN Daxin's view of history : in comparison with ZHANG Xuecheng's

論文Qian Daxin is one of the most representative scholars of the School of Evidential (kaozhengxue, koukyogaku) in Qing Era. He has a keen command of history studies and claims that Confucian Classics studies (jingxue) and history studies should not be treated separately. He believes that only studying both could prevent knowledge from becoming impractical like the Neo-Confucianism (school of principle, lixue, rigaku). This article takes his assessment of the Shi Tong (by Liu Zhiji) as a clue to analyze his understanding of historical records and what he perceives as the ideal way of historiography. Qian Daxin holds the point that the facts should be truthfully recorded, though the recording may be subject to interference by the political power of the time to ‘create myths’ to legitimate its rule. It is thus valuable to document other narratives of various historical sources to resist such political interference. Only in this way will the historical records be free from becoming moral judgments. And this means reading history will be to understand the ancients immanently through historical records. Qian’s point of view is usually seen to be close to Zhang Xuecheng’s, who is believed to hold a modern historiographical perspective. Although Zhang makes a similar point with Qian that all Confucian Classics should be regarded as historical materials instead of principles, he still attempts to establish in his historiography a continuous "orthodoxy" where the authority of political power overrides scholarship. Qian, unlike Zhang, focuses on discovering and understanding the specific ‘Other’, which was shared by most scholars of the School of Evidential at that time and is thus seen as the motivation of their studies.departmental bulletin pape

The role of Japan in the simultaneous entry of South and North Korea to the United Nations (1988−91)

論文During the cold war, the Republic of Korea (South Korea, ROK) and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea, DPRK) held a series of diplomatic competitions to substantiate the legitimacy of their governance to the wider world-among which the competition of being a member of the United Nations stands out as an epitome. Because South and North Korea completely opposed policy according to the way about how to join into the United Nations. The competition grew into an ordeal lasting for 43 years since the founding of South Korea and North Korea in 1948. In the year of 1991, the competition came to an end when DPRK accepted both South and North Korea as its members, culminating in the decision of “Two Nations, Two Seats” instead of the way by “Federal Democratic Republic of Goryeo.” Concurrently, a week before the North Korea’s declaration, the third diplomatic normalization talk between Japan and North Korea was held in Beijing. In this summit meeting, Japan designed an agenda to urge North Korea to accept both South and North Korea into the United Nations. Through this agenda Japan pressured North Korea to accomplish the goal of switching its policy to the United Nations. Based on the latest diplomatic archives of South Korea and Japan, this paper tries to explain the change of the Japanese government’s foreign policy to improve the relation with North Korea in the post-cold war. Through focusing on the third Normalization talks between Japan and North Korea, this paper aims at recapitulating the role of Japan in the simultaneous entry of South and North Korea to the United Nations.departmental bulletin pape
