Project Half Double: High Level Research Findings

    No full text
The mission of Project Half Double is to develop a project methodology that can increase the impact and speed of projects. Overall, the goal is to deliver "Projects in half the time with double the impact" where projects in half the time should be understood as half the time to impact (benefit realization, effect is achieved) and not as half the time for project execution. Implement Consulting Group is running Project Half Double in collaboration with a number of companies as well as The Danish Industry Foundation that supports the project financially. Aarhus University is engaged in the project with the overall task of evaluating the implementation of the new Half Double Methodology and document its potential impact in a number of pilot projects. In this booklet, the research team briefly presents the high level reseach findings of Project Half Double

Cost allocation and risk management in renewable electricity networks

    Get PDF
As part of the efforts to mitigate climate change, there has been rapidly increasing share of renewable power generation in the European electricity system. In the interest of bridging the gap between corporate and academic research interests, this PhD project presents a research collaboration on renewable electricity systems between Aarhus University and the energy trading company Danske Commodities. The first part of this dissertation has the perspective of a central planner exploring the optimal system design based on simplified fundamental models of the European electricity system. The aim is to determine the optimal locations and capacities of renewable generation sources while keeping the system reliable and cost-efficient. A subsequent step is to allocate the costs associated with the investments needed for the optimal electricity system of the future. I apply power flow tracing techniques for allocation of transmission system usage, cost allocation of generation capacities as well as consumption-based carbon accounting. In the second part, the perspective is changed to that of individual investors in renewable generation technologies, specifically wind turbines. I apply econometric models in the form of copulas to jointly model wind power production and power spot price. The goal is for an energy trading company to minimize the risk associated with long-term wind power purchase agreements, which, in turn, minimizes the risk of investors in these wind turbines. This provides additional incentives for similar investments and thereby increasing the share of renewable power generation in the European electricity system.Applying physical and financial models to different aspects of the European electricity system has led to insights on the differences between the two modeling perspectives. The central planning perspective is useful when exploring pragmatic solutions to the overall design of the European electricity system of the future, but provides no guidance for the individual actors in the system. In contrast, an investor in renewable generating assets focuses on a set of business goals with little regard to their impact on the overall electricity system. The link between the two perspectives is the policy makers, who regulate the electricity system. The results from system models using the central planning perspective can be used by the policy makers as guidelines to provide the right incentives for investors, and other actors in the system, such that the current European electricity system develops towards the optimal and sustainable system of the future

A Sound Approach to Language Matters: In Honor of Ocke-Schwen Bohn

    Get PDF
The contributions in this Festschrift were written by Ocke’s current and former PhD-students, colleagues and research collaborators. The Festschrift is divided into six sections, moving from the smallest building blocks of language, through gradually expanding objects of linguistic inquiry to the highest levels of description - all of which have formed a part of Ocke’s career, in connection with his teaching and/or his academic productions: “Segments”, “Perception of Accent”, “Between Sounds and Graphemes”, “Prosody”, “Morphology and Syntax” and “Second Language Acquisition”. Each one of these illustrates a sound approach to language matters

    DR3 og det kreative pres

    Get PDF

Nature and Reason: A Study on Natural Law and Environmental Ethics

    Get PDF
A study on nature and reason as normative concepts in natural law thought and environmental ethics. The Protestant reformer, Philipp Melanchthon, and the pre-enlightenment thinker, Christian Wolff, are read as representatives of a normative understanding of nature. With regard to reason as the source of normative, the study focuses on the reformer, Martin Luther, and the Enlightenment thinker, Immanuel Kant. The study shows how there is a remarkable parallel to contemporary environmental ethics in the underlying mode of normative thought. This is demonstrated both with respect to nature as norm (Holmes Rolston III, J. Baird Callicott, and Paul W. Taylor) and reason as a source of normativity (Bryan G. Norton, Mark Sagoff, and Robin Attfield). The study is concluded with an attempt to reshape nature and reason as normative concepts

This report presents the results of the Data Management i Praksis (DMiP) project (in English: Data Management in Practice). The project was funded by Denmark’s Electronic Research Library (DEFF), the National Danish Archives and the participating main Danish libraries. The following partners participated in the project: Aalborg University Library, Danish e-Infrastructure Cooperation (DeIC), DTU Library, Roskilde University Library, The Danish National Archives, Royal Danish Library and The University Library of Southern Denmark. The general objective of the project was to establish a Danish setup covering all aspects of the lifecycle of research data: from application, through the research phase, and finally to the dissemination of results and sharing of research data. The setup was to be based on researchers’ demands, and the suggestions and results of the project were to be at an international level. The project should also demonstrate that research libraries have a role to play regarding research data. Furthermore, the project should ensure development of competences at the libraries, which can then be used in the future process of managing research data.

Hvad tror danskerne på? En kortlægning af tro, overtro og overbevisning

    Get PDF
