Digitally modelled spaces with complex geometry and forms are commonly used to highlight the ingenuity and the technological sophistication of the exhibitors. E XPO pavilions, as architectural projects, constitute one of the most vivid examples of “playful” modern architecture – architecture created only for a brief period of time, as if only for “make-believe”, but with a powerful media, image and commercial message

Numerical analysis of consolidation of embankment subsoil reinforced with dynamic replacement stone columns
The paper presents a comparative analysis of the consolidation of soil under a road embankment reinforced with stone columns. The results were obtained from the most common analytical and numerical methods applied in driven column dimensioning. The analytical approach exploits Terzaghi’s one-dimensional theory and Barronʼs three-dimensional theory. The numerical calculations reflected the particular stages of the embankment construction in various two- and three-dimensional systems. The geotechnical parameters that were crucial for the research were determined on the basis of geoengineering documentation, laboratory and field studies. Reducing the number of runs in experimental research using smart designs of experiment
This paper presents the results of a computer simulation, performed to check how the number of smart designs of experiment units affects the quality of information to be obtained in experimental research conducted on the basis of the analyzed designs. In the simulation, a real research object was replaced by a special testing function whose values were compared to the values predicted by the neural networks trained with the use of data sets based on smart designs of experiments containing various numbers of units

The game of architecture determines the game field for thoughts: with shapes, colours, textures, lights and shadows. I t reveals something true just because it is a game. During the game, conceived, imagined world of shapes, is revealed in the presentation. O ne of the possible ways of architectural thinking referred in the text can be found three types of creative process: intuitive, reflexive and behavioural one. Like a sorcerer casting a spell “let it be”, imagination transforms unreal architecture in a mental fact. Thinking of creative minds enabled to create representations, owning to which outstanding timeless architectural works are implemented in the real world
Solution of the Stefan problem by involving material shrinkage
In this paper we describe an algorithm for solving the one-dimensional Stefan problem by involving metal shrinkage. In this algorithm we use the finite element method supplemented by the procedures allowing to define the position of moving interface and the change material size associated with shrinkage. We present also some examples illustrating the precision of the presented method

Each region has its own individual approach to shaping architectural and spatial forms. It has many patterns that attest to its distinct identity in the country. In small towns, new buildings and developments negatively affect historical buildings. Many designers and building owners seem not to notice the risks to the urban structures of small towns and their physiognomy
