Experimentally and analytically based shaping of a built-up compression bar with deformable joints of the branches

    Get PDF
This paper presents the course and results of a research programme aimed at the determination of the design buckling resistance of an axially compressed RHS column strengthened using two shorter U-sections. Connections of the tube and the channel branches were fabricated using BOM blind fasteners. Results of the experimental tests demonstrated the satisfactory efficiency of the performed strengthening of the tubular bar. Parametric analyses performed based on the validated theoretical model allowed the identification of the key factors influencing the effectiveness and economic efficiency of the strengthening process

Analysis of Pressure Losses in the Cross Flow Fan Heat Exchanger at Various Thermal and Flow Conditions

    Get PDF
In this paper the analysis of performance characteristics of a cross flow fan working as an element of the unit incorporating heat exchanger as well as performance characteristics of the unit are presented. These experimental results were basic for consideration of pressure losses arising as an effect of direct connection of a cross flow fan and a heat exchanger located in the charging zone of the fan as a resistance. Analysis of an influence of rotational speed variation as well as a medium temperature on aerodynamic characteristics of heat exchanger let to propose a method for the local pressure loss estimation

Performance analysis of reinforced polymer cement mortars “RPCMs” used for repairing concrete structures

    No full text
Concrete structures operating under different environmental conditions are subject to the action of aggressive gaseous and liquid media, which leads to their degradation. Even well-designed buildings, after time, can have problems to fulfil appropriate requirements concerning their further service life. Fiber reinforced mortars based on cement modified with different types of polymers are commonly used materials for renovating concrete structures. They should fulfil requirements concerning their high adhesion to concrete, minimum tensile strength, compatibility with repaired concrete and low shrinkage. The aim of the work was to compare the performance of three reinforced PCMs based on various polymers. The following features were tested: adherence to concrete, shrinkage and flexural strength

Passive building – verification of achieved effects

    No full text
The article presents a passive building to be used for office purposes that is under construction in Podlaskie region. The building has been designed to meet the characteristics of a passive building – i.e. compact shape, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, ground heat exchanger, tight external partitions with an indicator U < 0.15 W/(m2∙K), heat pump, solar collectors. Calculation indicator of useable energy demand for heating purposes is <15 kWh/m2∙a. In order to verify the achieved effects the building was subjected to tightness test and infrared camera tests are also planned. The building is constructed by the Podlaskie Passive Building Center as part of a project funded by the European Regional Development Fund

Generative Art ‒ about methodologies for creating a space in art and architecture

    Get PDF
This paper tries to identify the creative processes of Generative Art that brings to the construction of dynamic procedures of transformation, generative algorithms, by departing from interpretative logics. This structure becomes possible through a proactive approach to Geometry. In fact, overcoming the logic of the figures and related rules, this approach opens to the logic of the progressive processes and the dynamics of transformation inside the geometric space. This dynamic use of Geometry can be performed crossing the revolution operated by Brunelleschi, by Piero Della Francesca and Leonardo da Vinci again. This Renaissance revolution funds on the convergence of Art and Science and the discovery of the Perspective Logic

Wind tunnel tests of wind pressure distributions over wall and roof surfaces of a utility building with openwork side walls

    Get PDF
This article presents results of model tests of pressure distributions over interior and exterior surfaces of a utility building model carried out in an boundary layer wind tunnel. The tests were carried out taking into consideration different variants of solidity ratio coefficient values of the structure’s side walls. The main aim of the analyses was to determine the influence of the solidity ratio coefficient values of the side walls on the wind pressure distribution over the interior and exterior surfaces of the object. Four configuration variants of the side walls were taken into account for two directions of air flow – perpendicular to the gable wall and perpendicular to the side wall. The achieved results were analysed

Threats of palaces and manors – garden ensambles on the area of west pomerania conected with structural transformations of rural areas in 20th and 21st century

    Get PDF
Many palace and manor – garden ensembles, which were taken over in 1949 by state farms on the area of West Pomerania were devastated and destroyed. Unfortunately, changes of the space management conditions, which occurred after 1989, created new chances of development as well as new threats for monuments. The most important threat was the loss of monumental objects, and protection, even that which was in contradiction to original destination

An experimental and numerical assessment of the dynamic characteristics of the footbridge located over the national expressway dk -1

    No full text
In this paper the experimental and numerical results of dynamic characteristics (i.e. natural frequencies and modes of vibrations) of the cable-stayed footbridge, located in Czestochowa, are presented. The numerical analysis was carried out with the ABAQUS package. The in situ tests methodology and the results are also presented on the basis of the spectral analysis of vibrations caused by a group people jumping. The theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement as far as both the natural frequencies and eigenmodes are concerned

Analysis of the influence of shaping steel hall pillars of its dynamic characteristics

    Get PDF
In this paper, the analysis of the influence of the changes in shaping steel hall pillars of its dynamic characteristics, in particular of the value of the natural frequency, has been subjected. The moment of inertia about the axis of the transverse profile of a typical arrangement of the pile and its mass influence on the dynamic characteristics of the steel pillars hall. These factors are different for different types of steel poles profile. The article presents the results of the analysis of the influence of the shape of the three selected types of profiles on the dynamic characteristics of the steel hall. Steel hall selected for the analysis is a workshop, a single nave hall with a frame structure covered with a gable roof. Profile sections of load bearing pillars used for the analysis are: IPE 450, 280 HEB, HEM 220. These profiles were selected due to similarities between stress levels. The evaluation shall assess the influence of such dimensional manipulation on change of the construction costs of the steel hall selected for analysis. Static design and modal analysis was made in Robot Structural Analysis which is FEM engineering progra

Freehand drawing in teaching history of architecture

    Get PDF
Apart from learning experience and reinforcement of knowledge required to pass tests and exams, the sketchbook enhances students’ understanding of architectural forms and helps them develop the ability of conveying complicated historical spatial and urban facilities. Despite the common use of computers in the profession of an architect, this form of improving drawing skills is invaluable and fully justified. The maintaining of a sketchbook builds up students’ skills and teaches them how to freely express themselves while conveying their objectives, ideas and designs
