Based on examples of Renzo Piano’s works from different periods, we can observe the evolution of his very personal vision of the museum, his thinking about form, the relationship with the environment, with the audience and finally his approach to issues of natural lighting in an exhibition space

Also, it is the beginning to the process of preservations work recently completed, at Prospect Park. Get PDFThis paper presents an analysis of possible uses of contemporary data acquiring methods for elaborating hydrotechnical object numerical models. The subject is considered in two aspects – preparation of a geometrical model based on the results of a geodetic survey of the structure as well as subsoil parameters, and data acquisition for building material characteristics. The results presented for non-invasive measurements of hydrotechnical concrete parameters and geometry of the modelled object are based on the example of Rożnów Dam. The research uses data obtained by terrestrial laser scan and sclerometer tests (taken with a S chmidt hammer)
Analysis of the sintering process of 316l – Hydroxyapatite composite biomaterials
Get PDFThe 316L-hydroxyapatite biocomposites were produced by the powder metallurgy technology. The properties and microstructure of these materials are affected by the chemical composition of the powders mixture and the sintering temperature. The sintering temperature of 1240°C and hydroxyapatite addition in an amount of 3% of mass obtained the highest density and hardness and smaller open and closed porosity. Hydroxyapatite addition to austenitic stainless steel modified sintering behaviour. During heating the thermal decomposition of hydroxyapatite took place, which led to the formation of a CaO phase. However, phosphorus diffused into the austenitic matrix and was involved in the eutectic transformation

Get PDFFreehand drawing enables visualization of an idea in the form of a sketch. It is also a universal language designers use to communicate with other participants of a project. That is why freehand drawing ought to be an inherent element of a design process, especially in the first conceptual phase. In order to support this thesis I describe, using my work experience as a basis, the architectural and urban charrette workshop’s method, which is a design process in a nutshell. Among others I try to answer the following questions: To what extent should computer programs be used in the first design phase of a project? Where are the boundaries between freehand and computer drawing? Research results can be considered as general guidelines for a freehand drawing curriculum

Get PDFMonuments of martyrology: Do they need marketing?Martyrological museums form a specific group within Polish historical museums. These museums not only collect historical artefacts specific for them but also deal with important and hard to understand matters of human beings, such as death, genocide, Holocaust, and the dark part of human nature. This article presents aspects of these difficult matters and their influence on the marketing activities of these institutions. For this purpose, the condition of Polish museums with emphasis on martyrological museums is described, as well as the history of Polish museology before, during and after World War II. The article presents the technical and ideological development of martyrological museums, with regard to the relevant legislation. It shows the difficult situation of Polish museums after WWII and its great influence on Polish culture and civilisation. Taking into account the present-day development of technology and the needs of modern society, it describes the most popular forms of marketing in cultural institutions. On this basis, the marketing strategies of martyrological museums are analysed. The analysis shows that the life and emotional testimonies of former victims and torturers make these marketing forms inappropriate and – in fact – useless.A solution could be to present these difficult issues through art, both in traditional forms, e.g. by presenting drawings made in camps by former victims, and in modern ways, such as movies or comics

Get PDFThe purpose of this article is to analyze autobiographical components in the novel Le Page disgracié by Tristan L’Hermite, basing on the main criteria defined by Philippe Lejeune, Philippe Gasparini and René Demoris. It shows how the concept of ‘autobiographical pact’ and other cognate theories may only help to notice the complexity and variety of relations between literary fiction and biographical elements in Tristan L’Hermite’s work. In fact, by combining different esthetics and literary conventions, the uniqueness of this eclectic text seems make impossible to define its precise literary genre
