The assessment of microclimatic conditions in a well-spaced urban structure

    Get PDF
A proposed assessment method for microclimatic conditions in urban structures is presented in the paper. The assessment model defines the quantitative and qualitative features of the study area. The three main elements of the urban environment – local climate, urban development, and the type of the area surfaces – are all evaluated. The proposed method constitutes an approximation. Parameters such as the location, shadow fall, or heat loss by the external surfaces of the building were not included

A Numerical Model of Transient Pipeline Operation

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to develop a numerical model of a steam pipeline. The energy conservation equations for the pipeline wall and steam are solved using the finite volume method (FVM). The transient temperature of the pipeline wall, steam temperature and thermal stresses can be calculated using the model developed in the paper

Freehand drawing as an architecture “esperanto” for students of Aarchitecture and Building Engineering

    Get PDF
The paper describes the process and effects of two open-air drawing sessions organised by Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Opole University of Technology. The open-air drawing sessions took place in 2013 in Opole and Gliwice, and in 2014 in Pavia. The aim of the sessions was to improve the ability of synthetical and analitical freehand drawing, a comprehensive communication tool, which also simplifies the work with computer. Furthermore, young architecture students had the possibility to broaden their knowledge about buildings and complexes in a wide range of revaluation and revitalization. Students and teachers from architecture and engineering studies from Poland, Italy, Denmark, Spain and Finland took part in those open-air drawing sessions. In this European Union project called “Let’s Exchange HERitage of our CULture – Drawing as a Communication Tool of Students of Architecture/ Engineers from European UniversitieS – HERCULES” freehand drawing was means of cognition and the main goal was to broaden the knowledge of cultural heritage

Analysis of a passive design sports hall: construction and use

    Get PDF
This article presents an analysis of how the construction and insulation materials used for the walls of a sports hall built according to passive design affect the overall construction costs. The authors also attempt to answer whether the objective of achieving the lowest possible energy consumption in a building is actually economically sound. Cost analyses will be carried out to this end, the optimum insulation thickness will be determined, and the time necessary to balance the investment expenditure will be calculated for an energy-efficient construction project

    Permanent magnet synchronous motor

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the results of experimental investigation into a six-pole single-phase line start permanent magnet synchronous motor. The influence of the running capacitor capacitance on the motor running properties was investigated. The influence of the starting capacitor capacitance and its switch-off time on the motor starting properties was investigated

CFD Impulse Flow Simulation Through Shaped Nozzles

    Get PDF
Pressure pulsations in volumetric compressor manifolds are important issues in the compressor plant operation. For pressure pulsation attenuation, mufflers designed using the Helmholtz resonator approach are applied. Nowadays, the variable revolution speed compressors requires new design methods for pressure pulsation damping elements. One of the possibilities to attenuate the pressure pulsations is the introduction of specially shaped nozzles in the gas duct flow. In this paper, the impulse flow simulations conducted in FLUENT/ANSYS. The experimental validation of the simulation results is also presented

Environmental interaction assessment of VOC’s emission from printing plant hot rotary heat-set

    Get PDF
The paper presents an analysis of gaseous emissions arising from the operations of printing using a printing process hot offset rotary. The first part presents the general characteristics of the process and the paint used. The following part shows the results of modelling the emission of pollutants according to the efficiency of the cleaning system, as well as depending on other parameters influencing the dispersion process impurities

Integration of the Rural Roads database in Thailand with the parallel computing environment

    Get PDF
We present a solution to integrate the database of the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) in Thailand and to utilize the date on the environment of the parallel computing. We define and classify the usage of the data according to the level of the collaboration for different sources. For the user interface of the integration, we provide a web-based environment with the technique of the HTML5

Teaching of freehand drawing in the context of cultural differences

    Get PDF
Architectural drawing is a kind of practical tool for recording thoughts and working through design problems, a method of presenting our vision or explanation of things which are impossible to describe with words. The paper summarizes the problems concerning teaching freehand drawing to foreign students. Teaching drawing involves not only sharing information and understanding the process of recording ideas but aesthetic sensibility as well. Students from countries with different cultural backgrounds are demanding pupils. The article is an attempt to answer the question how the cultural background influences the students of architecture in their use of freehand drawing as a tool

An improvement of the ant algorithm for the maximum clique problem

    Get PDF
The maximum clique problem is a very well-known NP-complete problem and for such a problem, meta-heuristic algorithms have been developed which ant algorithms belongs to. There are many algorithms including ant algorithms that have been elaborated for this problem. In this paper, a new dynamic function of selecting with a new improvement procedure in order to get a larger size of clique for the ant algorithm is presented and this search for the maximum clique in graph is compared to the bestn ant algorithms that are already known
