Housing in the Polish countryside (ruralist’s reflections)

    Get PDF
This article presents the issue of housing construction in the Polish countryside in a synthetically treated historical aspect (until 1939) and seven phases after 1945 distinguished by the author. The author’s observations and assertions are based on knowledge of the subject (and many years of research) in relation to construction in Lesser Poland. The seven parts (sections) cover the critical description of the phenomena connected with rural housing, in particular processes of dispersion (entropy) in the management of rural space and far-reaching aesthetic disorders, both landscape and conceptual functional (in terms of technical infrastructure and social costs). The article justifies the thesis of a significant and sometimes decisive (often negative) impact of land reform (Decree PCNL 1944), and two great political transformations (1944–1948, i.e. the introduction of real socialism, and return to a market economy and democratic system after 1989) on the construction. The considerations are accompanied by reflections of a general nature by researcher of rural planning and architecture and designer of many architectural objects

Biurokracja PRL-u w dokumencie Krzysztofa Kieślowskiego w kontekście powieści Urząd Tadeusza Brezy i publikacji z „Trybuny Ludu”

    Get PDF
The aim of the essay is to analyze Krzysztof Kieślowski’s short documentary “The Office”, a film portraying the paradoxical character of the 1960s bureaucracy in Poland. The film is discussed in the context of original literature and press releases concerning that issue. A comparison of the images of bureaucracy presented in Kieślowski’s documentary, Tadeusz Breza’s novel Urząd [The Office] and texts in Trybuna Ludu reveals the specific character of the film. It is worth considering to what extent Kieślowski’s work plays a polemic game with the image of an official as promoted in the press and literature of the times, and to what extent it may be regarded as just following the common stereotype

Odzyskiwanie siebie, odzyskiwanie świata (o walkach Karla Ovego Knausgårda)

    Get PDF
The author of the article analyses the first three novels from Karl Ove Knausgård’s cycle My Struggle (Min Kamp). The author focuses mainly on the identity of the hero-narrator and on the critical views on contemporary culture presented in the novels. The author sees the real value of the novels in the fresh approach to the narrative forms, the construction of the first-person narrator, the re-evaluation of reality and in the ethical elements of language. The author also stresses the vitalism demonstrated by the writer. The author singles out the key formal features of this prose and confronts them with the twentieth century literary tradition as well as with contemporary culture

Powierzchnia i głębia: szkic o cielesności w polskiej romantycznej noweli fantastycznej

    Get PDF
Using August Wilhelm Schlegel’s definition of the short story and Tvetan Todorov’s concept of the fantastic, the essay presents three Romantic fantasy short stories. The author focuses on the representation of the body and corporeality. The works analyzed attempt to challenge the post-Enlightenment materialistic perspective and redefine the body and soul dichotomy. The essay discusses three models of presenting the body in the selected short stories. The first model, in Życie po śmierci [Life after Death] by J. I. Kraszewski, follows the logics of the grotesque and presents the body as not only the object, but also the vehicle of narration. The second model, in Lekarz magnetyczny [The Magnetic Doctor] by Józef Dzierzkowski, indicates the physiognomical understanding of the body as a sign, a call for interpretation. The third model, in Dentysta [The Dentist] by Henryk Rzewuski, involves the process of a radical suspension of the body and soul dichotomy: the body is conceived as pure surface

Du spectacle du bovarysme au roman méloforme : scènes de l’opéra chez Flaubert (Madame Bovary) et Kuncewiczowa (L’Étrangère). Ire partie

    Get PDF
This paper forms the first part of a comparative study which centres on the fragments of Flaubert’s and Kuncewiczowa’s novels which refer to opera performances (Donizetti’s Lucie de Lammermoor and Puccini’s Madama Butterfly). In the first part of the study published here, a comparative analy-sis of the function of the quoted opera scenes in both novels was attempted. The conclusion is that these scenes should be treated not necessarily as mirrors in which the characters want to recognise themselves, but rather as specific synecdoches of « Bovarism », revealing its characteristics and the transgressive dimension. The second part of the study (Cahiers ERTA, no 10) will discuss the socio-political dimension of the quoted scenes, whilst their location within the context of other references to music, present in both novels, as well as of the aesthetic views of both writers will allow to dis-cover some characteristics of their projects of musical novels

Stefan Celichowski – planner of the early 20th century. Analysis of the park in Osmolice

    Get PDF
Stefan Celichowski is one of the most prominent planners of the early 20th century who created nearly 250 projects including palaces, manors and public parks in the naturalistic style with all its distinguished features. Design, composition, richness and diversity of floral elements is the central attribute of his gardens design. The idea of creating the Palace Park in Osmolice comes at the peak of Celichowski’s creativity. The project was established in 1909 for the Stadniccy family. Post-war times brought further owners to the estate and its commercial functions. Inappropriate custody has caused transformations to the compositional structure. Currently work on the garden concept is directed towards protection and restoration of this incredible place

A Numerical Model of Transient Pipeline Operation

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to develop a numerical model of a steam pipeline. The energy conservation equations for the pipeline wall and steam are solved using the finite volume method (FVM). The transient temperature of the pipeline wall, steam temperature and thermal stresses can be calculated using the model developed in the paper

An Evaluation of Delamination in Composite Structures by Cooling Down Thermography (CDT): Numerical Studies

    Get PDF
This paper is devoted to numerical studies of composite structures with delaminations made with the use of CDT. Analysis of temperature distribution provides the opportunity to determine the geometry of subsurface defects. Results confirm the validity of the FE model in comparison to previous experimental investigations

AutoCAD and E-learning in teaching Descriptive Geometry

    Get PDF
The world is changing constantly and inexorably, and the new technologies enter all of the fields of our lives. The changes also affect the ways of teaching traditional subjects, such as descriptive geometry. Until recently, this subject, being the basic communication language for engineers all over the world, had only been taught with traditional methods – using paper, pencil, compasses and ruler. Currently, instruction on solving geometric problems begins to use computers with the AutoCAD software as well as e-learning platforms with a full range of possibilities. An essential issue in the course of instruction is to make the student realise that a computer can only do what it is told to do by its operator, and it is necessary to have theoretical knowledge to be able to use one in order to solve a given problem
