Coordinating Gender: What Can Coordinate Structure Agreement Tell Us about Gender?
This paper examines gender agreement with coordinate structures in Serbian, focusing exclusively on coordinate phrases with singular conjuncts. I discuss in detail four unexpected and challenging facts about coordinate structure gender agreement and provide a unified account of them. I argue that a participle or predicative adjective agreeing with a coordinate phrase takes the default masculine form either when the coordinate phrase contains conflicting gender information, which can sometimes surprisingly happen even when all conjuncts have identical gender specifications, or when at least one of the conjuncts is not marked for a gender value. On the bases of behavior of neuter, I also propose that gender in Serbian (and possibly other Slavic languages) should be represented in terms of binary features [±masculine] and [±feminine]
Nieżydowskie języki magii żydowskiej. O swojskości, obcości i przekładzie
The article discusses foreign magical incantations within the healing practices of the East-European Jewry. Indicating the importance of the category of “strangeness”, it examines several magical texts, focusing on their adaptation and translation into Yiddish culture.
Risk Management in Private Sector Projects
Background. A risk is inseparably related to the planning and execution of each project. A project risk is an event that may have impact on the achievement of project goals and objectives. Therefore, it is extremely important to minimize the likelihood of the occurrence and impact of potential negative events, and at the same time to take full advantage of opportunities for improvement. In other words, there is a need for project risk management.Research aims. Point out the aspects and risk management processes which are perceived to have the biggest impact on the success of a project. Indicate the risk management techniques most often used.Methodology. The search for project aspects and risk management techniques was based on scientific literature review. Exploration of actual application of risk management in private sector projects was based on surveying experts. The participants were entrepreneurs from across Poland who belonged to the Association of Project Management Poland and postgraduate.Key findings. Among the many aspects and techniques of the risk management suggestions for those which may increase the chances of achieving project success
The range and determinants of innovation management in micro and small enterprises of the Lodz region
The ongoing processes of integration and globalization, as well as the emphasis on innovativeness, constantly change the source of success of not only large companies, but also micro and small enterprises. In order to effectively compete locally and globally, such entities should possess an established model of behavior in a competitive environment, one which is infused with the spirit of innovativeness and entrepreneurship. Therefore their development should be focusing on implementation of change and innovation related to it. Micro and small enterprises are characterized by specific characteristics when it comes to managing innovation. On one hand, they exhibit a natural dynamism and flexibility of smaller entities, while on the other hand they are subject to various limitations in terms of resources, that make it more difficult for small business entities to implement innovation. In view of the above considerations, the aim of the paper is to identify the particular aspects of innovation management in micro and small enterprises and to determine the extent to which innovation is used by these business entities. To achieve the aim of this paper, research has been conducted among 40 micro and small enterprises operating in the Lodz region, which have implemented some kind of innovation within the period of the last two years
Prace matematyczne w Roczniku Towarzystwa Naukowego Krakowskiego (1817–1872)
This paper provides a general characterization of the Kraków Learned Society (Towarzystwo Naukowe Krakowskie). It existed in the period 1815–1872 and during that time changed its name several times. The Academy of Arts and Sciences (Akademia Umiejętności – AU) was founded in 1872, as a result of the transformation of the Krakow Learned Society. Additionally, this paper presents mathematical publications in the Annals of the Kraków Learned Society.
Evolutionary transformation of the journal. Part 3
It is outlined the third phase of the development of the journal Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU (Proceedings of the PAU Commission on the History of Science). In June 2016 Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU2015, vol. XIV was issued. Following the legal decision with effect from 4 July 2016 the journal, while maintaining the continuity of its publication, has been renamed to Studia Historiae Scientiarum. Since June 2016 the journal has a new website with an editorial panel on the Scientific Journals Portal. At the same time it still uses the existing website on the PAU Portal. In November 2016 Studia Historiae Scientiarum2016, vol. 15 was issued. Naszkicowano trzeci etap rozwijania czasopisma Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU. W czerwcu 2016 roku wydano Prace Komisji Historii Nauki PAU 2015 tom XIV. W listopadzie 2016 roku wydano Studia Historiae Scientiarum 2016 tom 15
Selected issues of aerodynamics of steel chimneys
This paper presents general principles of managing the reliability of steel chimneys according to Eurocodes EN 1990 and EN 1993-3-2. It discusses the basis for static calculations and dimensioning and compares Eurocode guidelines to the requirements of old Polish Standards. The use of standard procedures is illustrated by an example of static calculations and dimensioning of a steel chimney shell
An assessment of remote sensing for the classification of sedimentary rocks – a case study of Tauron Group Quarry, Poland
This paper presents the results of an analysis of sedimentary rocks in Tauron Group quarry. The main purpose of this study was to assess the possibilities of using remote sensing techniques for the categorisation of rock types. The application of remote sensing systems for the categorisation of rock types allows the evaluation of the volume and mineral composition of the material extracted from the quarry. Rock samples collected from the Tauron Group quarry were classified according to their mineral composition. Spectrometric analyses were also carried out in the spectral range of 350‒2500 nm wavelength. Spectral properties and mineral composition characteristics of the samples allow for the evaluation of the potential of using remotely-sensed data for rock classification. Optimal spectral bands for highest separability between individual rock types in the quarry were identified based on the study
Eclipse modeling Plugin for context-driven meta-modeling (CDMM-Meta-Modeler)
The novel and crucial point of this paper is the illustration of the application of close ontology based meta-modeling to defining the open ontology based construction of modeling languages (meta-models). This approach is a generalization of Object Management Group (OMG) standards related to Model Driven Architecture (MDA). The existing modeling tools supporting the traditional approach can be reused when open ontology based meta-modeling tools are implemented. This paper describes Context-Driven Meta-Modeling Meta-Modeler (CDMM-Meta-Modeler) ‒ the Eclipse Plugin that constitutes such an open ontology based meta-modeling tool. The tool constitutes an implementation of the diagramming aspect for the Context-Driven Meta-Modeling Framework (CDMM-F), which is one of several possible implementations of the Context-Driven Meta-Modeling Paradigm (CDMM-P)
Modeling of adsorption in a mixing tank
Computational models for adsorption in a tank are presented. The approximate model provides the same results as the exact model. The diffusion coefficient of a dye in an adsorbent pellet and the mass transfer coefficient in a fluid phase were determined on the basis of the measurements of dye adsorption on the activated carbon. It was determined how the fraction of the resistance to mass transfer in the fluid to the overall mass transfer resistance changes during adsorption. It was found that, for the examined system, the main resistance to mass transfer is located in the liquid phase
