Odeling the phenomenon of free and forced magnetization in three-phase transformers
This article presents the results of modeling the phenomenon of free and forced magnetization in three-phase, three-legged transformers. The no-load state of the transformer has been modeled using the program including a circuit model of the transformer. The results obtained have been compared with measurements carried out in the laboratory for the various circuits connection of the transformer
Milan’s urban nodes – an example of a polycentric city
The author focuses on the issues related to the polycentric character of metropolitan areas. The example of Milan provides a convenient opportunity for inspiring research because of the special role of these issues in the current development strategy of the city. The article presents two reconstruction projects of inner-city areas – at present the largest in Italy – which will result in crystallisation of urban nodes
Conservation of the neo-renaissance house at Studencka street 14 in Kraków with the use of hydraulic lime
The house near the crossing of Studencka Street and Garncarska Street, designed by Władysław Ekielski, was built over 100 years ago for Mr Wiktor Barabasz, director of the Conservatorium and founder of the Kraków Academic Choir, pianist and owner of the Grand and Upright Piano and Harmonium Storehouse. The two-storey building was made of brick and its three interior façades were given a finish with hydraulic lime. Due to the efforts of the owners’ cooperative, renovation of the façade started in 2011; it was partially financed from grants of the Social Committee for the Restoration of Kraków Historic Sites and Monuments. The renovation was designed by arch. Maria Fischinger. The conservation work was performed by AC Konserwacja, which possesses extensive experience in working with modern hydraulic lime. The material itself is produced in the Experimental Institute of Glass and Ceramics in Kraków, from domestic marl clay by means of calcination. It has properties that are very close to the historic version, especially resilience to atmospheric conditions and a warm, gold colour. The effect of the renovation, which was performed with great care and skill, is phenomenal
Simulation studies of target braking accuracy of an underground train driven by an AC motor
In this paper, a basic function of an Automatic Train Operation (ATO), called target braking, has been discussed. The most important assumptions of this function have been discussed in detail. The SOP-2 system designed by the Technical University of Lodz, in cooperation with Bombardier Transportation (ZWUS), has been presented. In the text, a target braking simulation model created by the authors has been described, which was developed to study the impact of the propulsion system on the target braking accuracy. The simulation results have been presented. The average dispersion of automatic target braking provides train stopping in the most number of cases in the range of 0.53 meters. Target braking values obtained during field tests are in the range from 0.3 to 1 meter. On the basis of the obtained results of target braking, the process conclusions are as follows: rapid deceleration changes cause the so-called jerks, which are negatively perceived by the passengers; braking in a long time causes a decrease in the commercial speed. Currently, the authors have developed a simulation model that includes a DC motor drive, which is in the testing phase
Rapid e-learning tools on the moodle platform
One of the most frequently highlighted problems regarding online teaching reported by teachers is the time and effort required to prepare and regularly update attractive e-content. This is particularly true for multimedia content. On the other hand, the problem often reported by students is the low aesthetic value and teachers’ failure to produce materials that students deem to be aesthetically attractive. This article presents some suggestions on possible ways to control and manage the visual side of e-content
Windborne debris in the urban environment
This paper presents a comprehensive review of the research into windborne debris using. It introduces the components of the typical debris risk model - wind field model, debris generation model, debris trajectory model and debris impact model - and reviews the research that has been done in each of these constituent areas. The majority of this research has focussed on understanding the fundamental physics of debris flight, using both experimental and computational approaches to derive analytical and empirical models. This fundamental physics must be viewed, however, within a probabilistic framework that allows the risk to be assessed in a relevant manner. Much of the research relates to hurricane hazard in the USA , however windborne debris is clearly a threat to the urban environment duringEuropean wind storms. The way that FEMA ’s HAZUS ®MH hazard assessment tool has brought natural hazard modelling into the engineering context is viewed as an approach that could be adapted for both mitigation and design in a European context

Tokyo, one of the global cities – so multi-threaded, vast, that almost indescribable. This article attempts to present an overview of the city and selected examples of contemporary architecture, that permanently inscribing in the canon of architecture, not only certify their affiliation with the art of building, but also enable to show the characteristic icons of Tokyo. Simultaneously, attention was directed to the role of the tectonics of architectural form, and the shape of buildings with respect to its observer’s perception of architecture
Inside-out architecture – a game with the multistability of solid and void
A game of the multistability of the solid and void based on turning an interior inside-out reveals the properties of a building or a room. The inside becomes an object, surfaces of walls that surround the internal void are revealed to the outside like the inner lining of a piece of clothing would be unveiled. A game that changes void into solid serves as a model of analysis of the architectural space, or as a method of immortalising nonexistent spaces

The figure of the flâneur is attracting growing interest among sociologists. The question that has stimulated this research is the following: which is the “role” of the flâneur in the social system? After having briefly expounded the Theory of Roles, we examine some sociological works which seem particularly useful to formulate a response. Our analysis is primarily focused on the works of Walter Benjamin, Anthony Giddens, Zygmunt Bauman, and Giampaolo Nuvolati, taken as paradigmatic cases of four possible perspectives
LES MÉTAPHORES DANS LES LEXIQUES FRANÇAIS ET POLONAIS DU RÉGIME SUPPLÉMENTAIRE DE RETRAITE
In language, a metaphor has an ambiguous status. On one hand, it is considered to be a free speech procedure, largely ornamental, resulting from a random assembly of words, not assisted by use, and therefore exposed to interpretation and ambiguity. Consequently, its presence in specialized languages, governed since Wüster approach by requirements of discourse neutrality, objectivity and precision, would seem to be inappropriate. On the other hand, the metaphor is recognized as an effective neological process that contributes to lexical enrichment; even more, in light of recent cognitive studies, it is regarded as element which guides our perception of the world, structures our thinking and helps to conceptualize unknown areas. Reflection on the role of terms which take the form of metaphors, the ones that participate in the denomination of concepts, list its classes and examine semantic motivation in metaphorization process, has dominated the analysis undertaken in this paper; analysis, the subject of which was the French and Polish terminology in the field of the individual retirement plans
