The Dynamics of the Distribution of co-authors
Get PDFIn the present paper, the case of a database of scientific articles is described. There can be observed the quantitative effects of the increasing strength of cooperation between scholars. It is manifested in time-related features changes of the numbers distribution of a single co-authors’ article. The distribution of the number of co-authors of an article recorded in the database evolves with time from a profile with no more than one author to a profile with several authors. A social dilemma model is proposed to explain the dynamics of changes in the distribution of the number of co-authors. The most successful strategy of the three considered alternative strategies of cooperation is selected
Acquiring road profiles using Walking-Profiler and computer modelling planograph’s measurement
Get PDFThe assessment of road pavements in terms of their properties and surface features is both complex and difficult. The indicators which describe the surface quality are eg. a longitudinal and transverse profile, a coefficient of friction, the International Roughness Index (IRI) and surface cracks. The article presents a method of using the data describing a real longitudinal profile of pavements, which was obtained by way of a self-constructed device named Walking-Profiler. It also proposes a way of calculating it with the use of numerical modelling of a Planograph, and also (simultaneously) the collected data can be used to calculate the International Roughness Index
Multi-criterion fault diagnosis of rolling bearings
Get PDFIn this paper, the possibilities of rolling bearing diagnostics, according to the PN and ISO standards, utilising the dimensionless discriminants of vibroacoustic processes, CPB frequency analysis and envelope detection methods are presented. The test bench, the measuring system, as well as the obtained results are described in detail. The authors’ own algorithm for the course of action during the process of detecting damage torolling bearings, involving the multi-criterion diagnostic utilising the afore methods is also described

This postulate will be discussed in the context of its implementation at Torun Classical Grammar School. Through the detailed analysis of mathematics curricula implemented in the Torun lassical Grammar School at the beginning of the twentieth century, the mathematical textbooks then used and school-leaving examinations problems from the years 1905‒1911, the degree of fulfillment of the said postulate of the Merano Programme at the Torun school will be assessed

Get PDFThe MS Ludwig XIV:2 (Getty Center, Los Angeles), from ca. 1170-1180, is a luxury manuscript containing Gratian’s Decretum. The appearance of Ludwig XIV:2 have caused art historians to compare it with a group of manuscripts prepared in Sens for members of Thomas Becket’s exile court. The present paper focuses on the three texts preserved in Ludwig XIV:2: the main text, the marginal notes, and the interlinear annotations. It detects several details proper not only to confirm the art historians’ suggestion of the manuscript’s origin, but also to link the three texts to Thomas Becket. – Also, all three texts have ties to the Old French translation of Decretum

Get PDFThe Fourth Dimension. R.S. Thomas’s Poetry and the Question of God’s AbsenceThe text deals with the poetry of R.S. Thomas (1913−2000) – a British author and an Anglican priest in the Church of Wales – whose works are full of controversial (given his priesthood) statements concerning the absence of God. As a lot of Thomas’s poems convey thoughts intersecting with post-secular reflection on the death of God, rooted in Derrida’s questioning of the “metaphysics of presence,” the article aims at tracing the inspirations behind Thomas’s quasi-religious poetry. The point of departure for this reflection is the poet’s recollection of being left by his parents alone for the first time. The impression of an empty house turns out to be an experience which shaped the poet’s attitude towards the disenchanted space he lives in. Although most critics claim that the apparent absence of God in Thomas’s poetry results directly from the tradition of theological via negativa, the author of the article pays attention to those characteristics which differentiate Thomas’s spirituality from the theological tradition and the most important difference between the poet’s attitude and the traditional model of Christian contemplation turns out to be time, or, more precisely, the temporal discrepancy between the possible accessibility of the transcendent being and the man’s ability to “catch it at work.

Get PDFThe missing part of (literary) historyThe article is a review of Marta Baron-Milian’s Wat plus VAT, the first monograph about connections between economy and literature in Aleksander Wat’s work. The author tries to show Baron’s book as a part of wider phenomenon, which can be observed after the great crisis in 2008, as a result of returning of different humanistic approaches to the problems of capitalist economy. By analyzing “economic consciousnessˮ and literary strategies of Aleksander Wat (in his poetry, biography, short stories and essays), Baron reveals the theological, symbolic and linguistic basis of modern economy. It allows her to describe a specific literary “experience of economy” and penetrating analyze of main themes of Wat’s work. One of the aims of the review is to rethink Baron’s proposition as a part of the new, thematically orientated history of polish modern literature. The other is to check, if Wat’s and Baron’s strictly modern and humanistic view of the economic systems can be still subversive and helpful against postmodern, mathematically reinforced capitalistic rhetoric

Finally, their dialogue that didn’t take place is situated in the context of Polish (and Central-European) cultural immaturity

Auto(tanato)grafie which analyses the Holocaust literature, especially autobiographical narratives, introducing an opposition between “centre” and “periphery,” as well as the notion of “auto(tanato)graphy.” Ubertowska focuses on three genres: essay, literary representations of women’s war experience and autobiographies of the Holocaust historians, which she describes as “peripheral” and “controversial.” The main aim of the review is to present values and doubts about Ubertowska’s conception and to supplement it by the omitted issues and remarks about the current situation of the Holocaust literature
