Spatial planning with public participation
The transformation of the sociopolitical system that started in 1989 was based on the principles of democracy and decentralization of power. When it comes to spatial planning, public participation was included in the planning procedures. Participation has become the key element in the process of shaping space. The modified planning regulations introduce public consultation that should facilitate the process of making the right decisions. In principle, the use of public consultation should facilitate conflict mitigation or even prevent them. The broad public participation in the development of local plans and studies of the conditions and directions of spatial development makes it possible to resolve a number of conflicts related to the essence of planning. However, under certain circumstances the participatory planning may unintentionally become a cause of social conflicts, although it was meant to resolve them. Sometimes rational spacial solutions can be blocked by certain interest groups
Gate driver for SiC Mosfet transistors
As new power transistors, such as SiC Mosfets, are being increasingly used in power electro- nics systems, it has become necessary to use special drivers. This article compares the parame- ters of SiC Mosfet, Si Mosfet, and IGBT gate circuits. Differences are discussed with reference to the ways in which these transistors are controlled. Gate circuit parameters of SiC transistors differ slightly from those of common Mosfet or IGBT transistors, and in order to be able to fully utilise the capabilities of these new devices, it is necessary to employ appropriate drivers. This article discusses one such driver for SiC transistors
Conservation through documentation – what documents?
To be able to appreciate and understand the significance and the quality, often ignored, of the existing heritage − from the single monument to the urban fabric and all the way up to the territory; all themes which are embedded in the concept of identity of their own landscape − the exact geometrical documentation of the state of the object is not sufficient (even if visually significant); an additional step in comprehension is required, backed by surveys and filtered with the appropriate interpretation and comparison keys about the observed organism, looking further beyond its image. Communicating the knowledge of architecture and manmade contexts (appropriate and multidisciplinary investigation methods with up-to-date technology, integrated surveys and scientific experience of the architectural heritage at all scales, the memory of the motivations and planning, philosophical and Social premises, both material and immaterial) is the realm of connoisseurs, and of those with the fortune and the ability to use this documentation for decoding content at multiple levels
Architectural play. A difficult game
The concept of play in various architectural forms. After a brief introduction discovering the existing relationship, even ironic, between ideas and realization, the paper studies some designs created by Bibiena (around 1709), where games and festivities were the real content of the designed buildings, and something like a gamemachine was the “incredible” way they worked in order to realize their unbelievable achievements
Cultural projects as a part of the heritage protection strategies – selected case studies
Nowadays that the globally valid spatial model of a modern city, is derived from the rich tradition of the European city structure, the authenticity of preserved heritage of our continent may be a significant advantage in the global competition between metropolises. European cities, sometimes dating back several millennia ago, are still evolving, changing, modernizing. Despite wars and natural disasters, most of them managed to save the historic urban systems, or fragments of them, as well as architectural elements forming them (buildings and their complexes).Their primary functions as unsustainable, are replaced by others. Many of today’s hybrid cultural projects are formed on the basis of the historic structures, an element of the broader urban strategies, related to the protection of heritage and city promotion. Selected case studies which has been designed or built lately in one of Spanish metropolises would be presented within this paper
Compared analysis of lspm sm and squirrel-cage motor exploitation with variable rotational speed
In this paper, the steady-states operation of a line start permanent magnet synchronous motor (LSPMSM) and a squirrel-cage motor have been compared. The stator of a Sg 100L-4B type, 3 kW induction motor, was used in both structures. The squirrel cage in the rotor of the LSPMSM is made from copper. The influence of the frequency change of the supply voltage on the motor’s efficiency and current as well as the power factor has been examined
Computer driven automatic control of the hybrid two stage refrigeration cycle
In the paper the method of automatic control of the two stage hybrid sorption-compression refrigeration system for different ambient conditions is presented. The main advantages of the system are its environmental friendly working fluids and waste or renewable low temperature heat source utilization. The control algorithm is designed for operation in four seasons’ conditions. During cold seasons the heat from the second stage condenser, as waste heat, may be used to increase the temperature of the heat pump source. The system is composed of dependent subsystems with individual controls, however it is controlled by the computer program as master control. The issues related to the optimization of operation of the refrigeration system, taking into account the maximum usage of available renewable or waste heat sources, are discussed in the paper
Perspectives on avation training in Polish Universities
This article presents the potential for development of aviation education at Polish Universities with a focus on aircraft mechanics training certified by the Civil Aviation Authority in Warsaw and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). An engineering graduate who obtains such a licence in addition to having a diploma would have no problems with finding a suitable employment
Creating architecture – a game first and foremost
The topic that was given to the authors – that of the academic problem of playing with and the game of architecture, has been researched and analysed by the author with the aim of affirming the fascinating nature of this issue – one that is a worthy academic field. I t is the issue of the outstanding criterion of evaluating works of architecture. The essay has been composed into four chapters, each examining factors ranging from the more general, broad and theoretical, to the more detailed, specific and empirical. The chapters themselves are four distinct parts that, along with their conclusion, make up a complete and coherent work
Physical and mechanical properties of modified soils used as a material for earthworks, based on sediments from the area of Rożnowskie Lake
This paper presents a detailed overview of selected physical and mechanical properties of cohesive soils deposited the Rożnowskie Lake and the possibility of using these sediments in the construction of earth structures. The scope of the article includes a brief description of processes related to the sedimentation of argillaceous sludge in Rożnowskie Lake
