Modelling of Heat Transfer in Ground Heat Exchangers

    Get PDF
The results of the numerical simulation of heat conduction in ground with a horizontal, tubular (parallel pipes) heat exchanger installed are presented in this paper. On the basis of analysis of courses of temperature isolines in the ground, a simplified mathematical heat transfer model in a horizontal ground exchanger was developed. The ground thermal diffusivity was assumed to be a variable of location. On the basis of the model, the temperature profiles in the ground with a heat exchanger installed were determined

Forgotten Heritage: Urban ExploringThe article attempts to explain the urban exploring movement, which is considered to be controversial, but is constantly gaining more and more popularity, Poland included. It is an urban cultural movement operating on the margin of the law, which makes it often misunderstood as vandalism. From the culture science point of view, urban exploring has to be analyzed from a broader perspective and taking into account its positive aspects. The explorers document their work using photographs, historical descriptions and maps of places which are usually omitted by people responsible for heritage. Thanks to the explorers’ activity it is possible to preserve the memory and popularize a given object of heritage which is usually not accessible for tourists, but which tells a lot about people and their civilization as well as its own history

    Get PDF
The article addresses the issue of innovative activities in the cultural sector as a key driver of change. This article examines how innovation can be defined and categorized in the cultural sector. It focuses on innovation typologies giving special attention to the existing statistical framework of cultural activities and to guidelines for innovation data collection in their interconnection, as well as to the phenomena of ‘soft’ and ‘hidden’ innovation. An attempt is also made to extend the term ‘innovation’ beyond the traditional understanding in a way that it reflects the specificity of the cultural sector

    Potential Contour Ensembles

In the paper a contour ensemble image segmentation concept is presented. It bases on the previously observed relationship between contours and classifiers. Because of the specificity of the active contour segmentation the method requires a special procedure to obtain ensemble members with desired properties. In this work it is achieved by early stopping of randomized optimization algorithm. The results of the method are illustrated with a practical problem of heart ventricle segmentation by means of active potential contours. Automatically found contours may be of use in a process of pulmonary embolism diagnosis

Traveller of the World in La Sapienza                                                                  A new  volume of studies on Czesław Miłosz and his oeuvre, edited by Tomasz Bilczewski, Luigi Marinelli and Monika Woźniak, contains a collection of articles written by worldwide renown scholars and translators of Miłosz’s writings. The collection may be considered as a multivocal revision of the contemporary status of the image of the poet’s world. What appears to be the underlying principle of these various approaches to Milosz, is the general focus on his panoramic view of different continents and time perspectives. It is the tension between ‘home’ and ‘homelesness’, the state of being always ‘here’ and (at the same time) ‘there’, that makes the passage from a modern to a postmodern condition of humanity, the passage reflected upon in many of the articles collected in this international volume
